We were really, really lucky. Plus, no power outage. Better to be prepared and nothing happens, than totally unprepared when a disaster hits. Really glad it mostly passed you by 🥰 1 Quote
Madeleine Posted January 29 Posted January 29 That's good news, hope all those extra workers didn't miss out on any payment for what they were meant to do. We're getting doom laden forecasts here too about another Beast from the East ie heavy snow in early Feb, but we'll see. Fingers crossed, it's fairly mild here at the moment with a couple of quite nice days, but more rain is due and the south west has suffered really badly from heavy rain and floods. 2 Quote
muggle not Posted January 29 Posted January 29 They are forecasting another storm for us this weekend, this time snow. Quote
France Posted February 17 Posted February 17 (edited) Never have I been so glad to live on a hill! The sud Gironde is having appalling flooding, my little town of Cadillac is under waist-deep water - it was in the Guardian today and one of my friends has over 2 metres of water in her house. And that follows on from all the damage done by storm Nils last week (a lot). Edited February 17 by France Quote

Madeleine Posted February 17 Posted February 17 Apparently it's similar weather in Spain. I'm also on top of a hill so have been quite glad, we've had a day off today but it'll be back for the rest of the week Just went for a walk over the local nature reserve which is on a slight hillside and it was like a bog over there.. lunababymoonchild Posted February 17 Posted February 17 We’ve been swamped too but live on a slope so not flooded but I daren’t let the tree surgeon in to prune my trees because I know it’ll be lethal just now (and our garden is also on a slope so no standing water). A touch of snow today and very cold but dry. Quote
poppy Posted Wednesday at 02:22 AM Posted Wednesday at 02:22 AM France, Madeleine and Luna ... glad you've all managed to stay high and dry, but it's horrible seeing people's homes flooded. Quote

It certainly is. I wondered, idly, is anyone was gathering (for want of a better word) the surplus water and storing it somewhere for the now inevitable drought. I know it’s not healthy water but it could water crops etc Quote
Madeleine Posted Wednesday at 01:36 PM Posted Wednesday at 01:36 PM It's dry so far today but with a bitterly cold wind, but at the weekend it's meant to be mid teens! good idea about the water, mind you won't it smell if it's kept for too long? 1 Quote

Probably. Stagnate. But we treat effluent to go back into the environment so why not that? Be good enough for crops etc Quote

Ana and I were just talking about doing this every summer, a few days ago. Rare we get droughts but water bills..we definitely do. Quote
Madeleine Posted yesterday at 11:17 AM Posted yesterday at 11:17 AM Talking of stagnant water, I now have water coming up through my kitchen floor tiles. Need to trace where it's coming from, it rained all last night but nothing has come up yet, so I'm wondering if it's coming from somewhere else. Actually quite warm out, though will be very muddy.
