chesilbeach Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 We saw Now You See Me the other day - entertaining enough, but utterly ridiculous and my friend thought it was the worst ending in a film EVER! My expectations were pretty low, but I thought it was fun if silly.
Raven Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Species A decent enough story, but somewhat lacking in execution. Not as good as it should have been given the rather good cast.
chesilbeach Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 I watched Casanova with Heath Ledger and Sienna Miller - not a patch on the BBC Three Russell T. Davies adaptation with David Tennant and Laura Fraser.
Cookie Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 Watched Plunkett and MacLean last night still love it.
BSchultz19 Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 I finally watched Skyfall and it was amazing. Exceeded every expectation I had for it. I really want to see Man of Steel, but I doubt I will before it leaves the theatres. Gonna have to wait until it's out on DVD. I have heard it's good though.
MrBookLover Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 The last movie I watched was The Dark Knight Rises. Still as epic as the first time I watched it
Kylie Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 The Day the Earth Caught Fire Seemed apt . . . I think this is a massively under-rated movie. It's one of my favourite sci-fi flicks.
~Andrea~ Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 The World's End Very funny and enjoyable. Better than Hot Fuzz.
dex Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Red 2, Watchable, Funny but not Hysterical (as someone behind me thought) Used the car trick from a film Willis spent about 10 mins in (cold light of day) (You may Curse me, Just don't quote me.) Helen Mirren, Underused. Anthony Hopkins, Great, Doing Mad Scientist/ Hannibal. Bleep Brian Cox, Who's almost as bad as Willis for turning up everywhere as a russian smuggler, but he is funny.
Timstar Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 The Wolverine, meh.. it was OK...just. Do stick around for the after credit scene though!
Athena Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 The World's End Very funny and enjoyable. Better than Hot Fuzz. x Excellent news! I might go and see it in the cinema while I'm on holidays (although it'll be a bit difficult without subtitles). Will have to see how tired I will etc.
chesilbeach Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Went to see The World's End last night - I thought it was good, enjoyable and far better than most of the films I end up seeing, but didn't think it was anywhere near as good as either Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz
Raven Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 ^ That's the impression I get. I was going to go and see it tonight, but now the time has rolled around to go I've decided to go home and do my laundry. [/oldman]
chesilbeach Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Yeah, one of the guys at work has been too, and he felt the same as me.
Athena Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 I really like that film! Yesterday we watched Watchmen. It was quite long (we have the Director's Cut Blu-ray) and the first half an hour I was confused but after that I thought it was really good .
TintagliaIceFyre Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Watched The Host last night. Verdict: Brilliant! Incredible film!
chaliepud Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Watched The Host last night. Verdict: Brilliant! Incredible film! I enjoyed it too though not as much as the book.. Just watched Free Samples, bit of an indie movie which are often my favourites.. Was very simple but very good.

We loved Red 2, saw it yesterday afternoon. The car thing was magnificent. Loved it when HM said....."show me something".
Karsa Orlong Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Yesterday we watched Watchmen. It was quite long (we have the Director's Cut Blu-ray) and the first half an hour I was confused but after that I thought it was really good . Yeah, I was really surprised by how good that film was
pontalba Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 The only 'one screen' theatre left in New Orleans, The Prytania, is having a French Film Festival this week. Today (Saturday) we went over and managed two of them, a double feature. First off we saw Lola (1961) with Anouk Aimee. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lola_(1961_film) It was a beautiful print, which is pretty amazing, as the original negative was destroyed in a fire. Next we watched one of the most layered, and interesting films I've ever had the pleasure of watching. http://movies.nytimes.com/2013/06/07/movies/you-aint-seen-nothin-yet-by-alain-resnais.html?_r=0 You Ain't Seen Nothin Yet, directed by Alain Resnais.
Sakura Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 I've watched Pacific Rim a few days ago. Even for a film about giant mechs fighting giant monsters it's not very good. The 3D effects where very blurry, the fighting unimaginative, and the plot had more holes then a sieve. I wouldn't recommend it.
