  1. I saw the docu series of She Wolves and it was engrossing. The book sounds just as good. Grrr at the book finishing early ; I don't look at the end cos I don't want to risk spoiling, so sometimes I'm looking forward to 30 more pages of the story when it ends suddenly, for notes or an excerpt ( though I like getting a preview of the next book ).
  2. Amateur ! Is there a Finnish mystery translated into English which you`d really recommend ?
  3. Star Trek TNG 4 x 14 "Clues" - pretty good. I hadn't watched any Star Trek for aaaaaagess.
  4. Me too. It provided me with another series to get into.
  5. Some lovely book covers there. I`ve seen those Sarah J Maas books on Amazon ; I`ll be interested to know how you like them.
  6. Curs`ed Autocorrect !!! Yes, it`s Allingham. I have those Peter Davidson DVDs, and love the books.
  7. I've been listening to traitors purse - Margery Willingham, via Radio4ex. It's read by Roger Allam, and is excellent so far. I think it was written around the same time as dorothy l Sayers' work, my favourite of which is gaudy night.
  8. Drizzly and 14 C. We had the heating on this evening ( the cat demanded it ).
  9. I saw that Jerry Doyle died last week, at the age of 60. Another one from Babylon 5 gone beyond the rim. RIP.
  10. Thanks for the pound cake info ! I'm tempted to ask for a recipe, but I think that US and UK flour are very different ?
  11. Crocodile on the Sandbank - Elizabeth Peters I disliked the ending so much when I first read it, that I didn't want to try the next in the series. Years later, after reading another book set in Egypt which I loved ( by Barbara erskine ), I dug out the Elizabeth peters book again, and realised how brilliant it was. I still didn't like the ending, but tried the second in the series and then realised why the author had had to give that particular ending. I know it's all a bit cryptic, but saying what the problem was, would spoil the book for others.
  12. First of the Month and two free e-books from The Times : The Trouble with Goats and Sheep - Joanna Cannon, The Empty Throne - Bernard Cornwell.
  13. That`s a great book haul ! How nice that there was a `surprise` sale at the Library.

  15. It`s Steve !! Hi Steve ! Did you get a boxset of Harry Bosch from the Book People ? That`s what I did ; I haven`t got past the first book either, though I did enjoy it.
  16. According to this, the two books make up the complete collection. I`ve got it in my ` get to at some point` list. Pity that Diane Chamberlain book was a bit of a letdown.
  17. Hurray ! Illuminae looks absolutely fascinating ; I hope it`s as good as it seems. BTW, I`ve been quite tempted by this - Orange. I think you might like it too ?
  18. Her second book is very similar, and runs from Sept-May ( so I`m rereading that soon ). Thanks. Boo ! How disappointing.
  19. Hurray for the Gretchen Rubin book - I`m currently re-reading it this year, ie, one chapter per month. I hope the Death in Paradise book is good ; it`s on my `buy at some point` list.
  20. Thanks Gaia. She`s currently hiding under a bed upstairs.
  21. Poor xiao xiao`s curled up beside me in bed ; she had to have her annual check up and jabs today, which was a bit traumatic for all. Her vet was very good, chatted to her and gave her cuddles.
  22. Favourite books so far : The impossible lives of greta wells - as greer The black honeymoon - Constance and gwenyth little Death and the dancing footman - ngaio marsh Spirit trilogy - ee holmes Dead beat - Jim butcher And the disappointing one - death lights a candle-pa Taylor. Far, far too much local cape cod dialect, which made it difficult to read.
  23. I'm in two minds about seven of nine ; I loved the character development and her acting, but that outfit ?? Sheesh.
