  1. That's not what you told me Sarah, nice to see your TBR pile back over 700
  2. Seriously? You don't know Captain Kirk (gold shirt) and Doctor McCoy (blue shirt)??
  3. Only cos you can't have much on there if you haven't read much in the first place It made me laugh, though
  4. That'd be another negative for audiobooks for me, then - if you were reading it you could pronounce it any way you wanted to ETA: http://www.forvo.com/word/dant%C3%A8s/
  5. Welcome to the party
  6. I read it as Dan-tez
  7. Nah that's still the wrong one (for me) this is the one I thought I was getting:
  8. I can't believe I've read that and you haven't I feel vaguely superior. I shall make the most of this whilst it lasts Aaaaaaaand it's over
  9. There already is: http://www.bookclubforum.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/11444-wolf-hall-by-hilary-mantel/
  10. No, it's next up, after The Sunne in Splendour (Kindle edition ). Yeah, shame I can't take advantage of it.

  12. I hope you didn't pass the box to anyone else
  13. Just to put a final nail in the coffin of the Sunne in Splendour saga, I received an email from the seller: Very good of them, I thought, but there are a couple of problems . . . mainly that I didn't keep the packaging so can't do the 'return to sender' bit, and because the book is so thick I doubt it would fit in a letterbox anyway, so I'd have to pay for postage and packing myself, which I'd already worked out would cost me around £4, so long as I didn't want it tracked. So, in the end, more hassle and expense than it's worth. The paperback will be going to the Cancer Research Shop on my next visit.
  14. I just found the plan I was supposed to be working on Plan update: Bring Up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel - finished 13/06/13 Emperor: The Gates of Rome by Conn Iggulden - finished 24/07/13 Prophecy by S. J. Parris - finished 18/06/13 The Mauritius Command by Patrick O'Brian - finished 14/07/13 The Black Dahlia by James Ellroy - finished 27/06/13 The Odyssey by Homer - finished 24/08/13 Something by David Gemmell, to be decided (probably either Hero in the Shadows or The First Chronicles of Druss the Legend) - finished 26/07/13 A Deepness in the Sky by Vernor Vinge The Technician by Neal Asher - finished 04/07/13 Pompeii by Robert Harris - finished 06/09/13 The Silver Spike by Glen Cook - finished 22/06/13 The one no-one saw coming: To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee - finished 16/08/13 So it's not going too badly, then I shall probably squeeze A Deepness in the Sky in between the 2nd and 3rd 'Thorns' books
  15. I noticed that Pick TV (Freeview channel 11, Sky channel 152) started showing the short-lived tv series of The Dresden Files last night. It bears about as much resemblance to the books as Tom Cruise does to Jack Reacher, but it's not bad. The first episode is repeated this coming Sunday, 22nd September.
  16. Can't see that this has been mentioned before http://www.whsmith.co.uk/promo/great-value-book-bundles-00021/list?page=1&results=60 Various genres, get ten books for between £5.99 and £14.99.
  17. Oh she's been worse today. My neighbour has got builders in again (third year running ) and they've apparently been using a pneumatic drill all day, so Pixie's a nervous wreck
  18. And every time Rake veers Coltaine's a tricky one. When I was reading it I had Rodney A. Grant in mind, but he's too old now. Ron Perlman as Mappo Although Icarium's supposed to be bigger than him, isn't he? Who's bigger than Ron Perlman?? Well he's done Karsa's origin, so I'm kind of hoping it'll be set after the main sequence
  19. Why? Are you trying to get rid of the 500 you've got in your TBR pile?
