  5. Agreed! I think The Bonehunters ranks as my favourite fantasy book, at the moment anyway. House of Chains and Midnight Tides aren't far behind. I thought GRRM's A Game of Thrones was absolutely thrilling, too. Looks like I need to get another avatar - Anomander Rake was my second choice for username
  6. I recently read the Farseer trilogy and thought it was terrific. I've now got the Liveship Traders books sitting on the shelf waiting to be read.
  7. The first sf novel I read was probably Dune, about 30 years ago. I recently re-read it and it still seems fresh and exciting - hasn't aged a day, unlike me The first fantasy novel I read was Pawn of Prophecy by David Eddings. The first horror novel was Pet Sematary by Stephen King.
  8. I'm hugely addicted to the Malazan series by Steven Erikson and Ian Cameron Esslemont. I've read (and am gradually re-reading) the nine existing novels in his Malazan Book of The Fallen series, and the tenth and final one is due at the end of this year. Esslemont is writing a companion series called Malazan Empire, for which there are currently two books. I've also arrived a bit late at George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, which I am loving (on book two at the moment). I'm quite a fan of Lee Child's Jack Reacher novels, and am just getting into Iain M Banks's Culture series as well. Used to love David Eddings' books, like The Belgariad and The Mallorean.
  9. Thanks everyone Karsa's my favourite character from the Steven Erikson Malazan books
  10. Ouch! That's a bit below the belt
  11. I'm currently working my way through season 1 of Merlin as I missed it when it was on tv. The last film I watched was X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which was more enjoyable than I thought it would be.
  12. When I was a kid back in the 70s I collected the original Star Wars figures. They were
  13. Hi everyone Gosh, I don't know what to write I live in London. I work from home, part-time at the moment, and with the rest of my time I have rediscovered my love of reading and writing. When I was working full-time in Central London I didn't read much at all but that's all changed in the past year. These days when I walk into a book shop I'm like a kid in a candy store: "I want to read that! And that! Oooh, and that!" I don't think anything can replace that feeling - buying books from Amazon just isn't the same. I mainly read science fiction and fantasy (and I like rock music - I know! What a geek!! ) but have been known to read other genres as well. Favourite author at the moment is Steven Erikson. I read his Malazan Book of The Fallen series last year and am in the process of re-reading it already because I loved it so much. I found this site completely by accident yesterday and thought I'd sign up. It'll be great to read other people's opinions and get steered towards some authors I might never even have considered reading. Sheesh, and I didn't know what to write ...
