  1. Hope you enjoy Moon Over Soho I really enjoyed it. I started House of silk - Anthony Horowitz's homage to Sherlock Holmes so far its not too bad.
  2. I am an archaeologist and I loved my job when I started, I studied it at university and seemed like a ntural choice to go into the practical side of things, I worked on some great jobs stayed in some less than salubrious B&B's worked on my own on a site with over 200 builders but also as part of a team of over 90 archaeologists on what is now T5 at Heathrow met some of the wierdest and nicest people in the world. For the last 6 years I have been in management and its different for the main part I still enjoy it (giving up the fieldwork was a result of 12 years living out if a bag from week to week and paying rent on a house I never saw oh and ageing body) but its also had its major down points I have since 2008 been involved through my job in making people redundant when the company changes or not renewing contracts something which I had to do to 7 people today. so my ideal job these days is working for myself in a studio and just enjoying drawing preferably with no pressure to make money....ahhhh it is but a pipe dream unless I win the big one.
  3. I am really hoping he is joking....really really hoping

  5. so manay memories loved that one still reading Skulduggery Pleasant Deathbringer by Derek Landy
  6. I was thinking about this too well not about the complete fictional costumes of the Romans but original films which have been modernised rather than re-made, for example you have all those great spy films made at a time of cold war James Bond is a great example of this (although their relationship to the books is very tenuous so I tend to think of them as films only) but they can be modernised when the threat (war terrorism etc) is different I am not sure I do object to this kind of film being made as its a new version rather than a strict remake. Can't think of any great examples at the moment but I am sure I will,
  7. Surely it also depends on the Classic film, those made from Classic books are the most ripe for re-doing and no one seems to object. Jane Eyre is one which is remade every 10 years or so. Pride and Predjudice even Sense and Sensibility the later films are far better and more true than those made in 1940's. I am including TV adaptations in this I know. But on the whole I agree why does Hollywood insist on re-making classic films, there was talk at some point of remaking Blade Runner (shudder) which I am thankful they never have. I generally hate the foreign remakes of both tv and films I am perfectly able to read the sub titles and enjoy the non Hollywood polish of the original which on the whole are far better and grittier. But I am open to new films all the time and who knows some may be better, but I would like to see more originality sometimes and less of a bandwagon for big Hollywood stars. Although saying that I enjoyed the darker edge to the later Batman films despite being a big Tim Burton fan.
  8. part way through Derek Landy Skulduggerry Pleasant Mortal Coil. Love it not as funny as the first few but a good addition to the series

  14. I have to admit Poppyshake that I am a die hard non fan of Henry James I have had Portrait of a Lady on my bookshelves for years and its one of only a handful of books I own which I have never managed to get more than a a few chapters into so so so dull.....happy reading
  15. I would recommend them, have been reading them since they came out. A bit of God stuff but not rammed down your throat in a convert sort of way if you know what I mean but in a more spooky sort of way. good series he manages to get Merrily as a real human. The later books her daughter is a bit of a pain and it involves archaeology which makes me cringe but not put me off reading them though. Might move Ghost Files up to the top of the list and use some of my vouchers credit.
  16. Glad you are enjoying the Dresden file stories I am still to get the last one ghost stories which is on my wish list. Have you read any other of Phil Rickmans books I haven't read this one but have most of his others.

  22. you know I don't mond when the week goes quickly but its unfair when its the weekend

  23. Some are out of my head and some I take the idea and adapt for my own, this is from one of my favourite illustrators Errol le Cain, I was trying to see if I could do it in black and white as his is in colour but I wanted to be able to get the detail. I am pretty much self taught in this form of drawing, I did art as far as A level ( a long time ago) but was mostly a painter never really got on with illustration as I thought it was too restricting not to be able to use colour. I just find it therapeutic to relax and draw on my weekends.
  24. I have always loved castles too and am obsessed with drawing them. There is a brilliant one near where I live Wardour Castle I love it. I did a bit more last weekend so almost done now
  25. Nice list read a few of these myself whats been your favourite?
