  1. I've read all of them. And most of them as soon as they came out. So I'm really feeling the loss.
  2. Trying to find a telly......

Naughty. No telly. Book is better. Book, Miranda, book.

LOL! I am reading, honest! It's just difficult to knit and hold a book at the same time. I need a nice silent man to hold my book for me.......

  3. I tend to drink wine after food, for some reason. Probably because I'm vegetarian and there are no recommendations for that! LOL! I do like a Rioja though. But I find they have to be slightly more expensive than a lot of other grapes. Cheap Rioja is not often very nice.
  4. Thank you! Nice to meet you too.
  5. Hello! Just realised I haven't introduced myself. How rude! I'm Miranda and I joined here ages ago. And then my puter broke and I lost all my bookmarks and I couldn't remember the name of the forum cos I have the memory of a goldfish and .... eh I'm an idiot! And then I found an old doc where I'd put the names of sites and spotted this one! It's amazing what you find when you hoard stuff... LOL! It's very nice to be back and I've been mooching around the board and settling in. So .... hello everyone!
  6. Sorry to necro this thread but I also love red wine. A nice crisp white is good for a hot summer's day but I mostly drink red. Often Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon. I like it full-bodied and fruity.
  7. I saw a little bit of the Scottish but more by accident than design!
  8. I really enjoyed the first half of Season 2 but the second half.... not so much. Too much focus on SkyDaisy. Possibly because the makers think she's the most interesting character when, for me, she's one of the dullest. I wanted more Coulson and May and FitzSimmons......
  9. I'm really looking forward to this!
  10. I'm looking forward to the Open. St Andrews is a tough course and the weather report is looking cack. How's Speith in the wind and rain?

    Especially now there's this:

I was wondering that. There's obviously something going on in the dressing room. Going to be interesting with a new keeper.

I saw on the CricInfo site that Brad Haddin won't be in the Lords Test for 'personal reasons'.
  14. I'm really torn on reading The Shepherd's Crown. As usual with a new PTerry, I can't wait. But it's the last one. But I'm really excited to read it. But it's the last one. There will be no more. And that hurts. Oh well.... I'll read it. But I will be hurting.
  15. I didn't like Tommyknockers either. I could see what he was trying to do but it was bad. I managed to get to the end but did slightly begrudge the time spent. Gerald's Game, though, that's superb. Creeped the **** out of me when I read it!
  16. A Private Patient is one of her better ones. I really enjoyed it.
  17. Zen is a brilliant book! I devoured it in one sitting! But then I have an interest in philosophy so maybe it was more my kind of book.
  18. Won't bother with that one then! It is disappointing though when an author you like writes a real stinker.
  19. There's a new series of the Swedish Wallander starting tonight on BBC4
  20. Then I think I'll treat myself out of my birthday money!
  21. It's a superb book! Witty, clever, deep, satirical and backed with sound philosophical thinking. I studied it as part of my philosophy degree and loved it! Of course, the effect was heightened by the fact that just before reading Candide, I had been forced to study that pile of nonsense Emile by Rousseau.....
  22. I saw the Preferred Text of Neverwhere the other day and did wonder about buying it. Is it worth it? Or is it a publishing scam to get you to buy the same book a second time?
  23. Can you remember the name of the main character? It would make it easier to find on Google.
  24. Another vote for the Artemis Fowl series. But only the first 3. After that, they get a bit meh. And Philip Pullman. They're pretty good. As for classics, have you tried Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie? Easy to read and good puzzles. Just thought, how about the Narnia series? Might be a bit young for you but enjoyable anyway. Alice in Wonderland?
  25. I've read the latter and it's not spooky but it is quite chilling. And very interesting. Got some great characters in it as well.
