  1. Wow that's lovely!! I love fireworks, they're so pretty haha!! My sis takes the most amazing photo's, I find it hard to believe that they're from a member of my family sometimes, hehe!
  2. Another book I thought of the other day, which is based during war time but in Auschwitz is I Was Dr Mengele's Assistant by Miklos Nyiszli. It's a non fiction book. I think I read this in about two days, it's extremely interesting to hear the story from someone who was actually inside Auschwitz and is very disturbing and upsetting in parts, but I think people need to keep reading and seeing things about the holocaust to remind them how awful it was so that it never happens again!
  3. I read Of Mice and Men in school too and it is a really good book!
  4. The Time Traveler's Wife (but not until I've finished the book), Inglorious Basterds (have been waiting for this since before they finished filming it), My Sister's Keeper and another that I can't remember, not bad considering there's hardly anything I want to watch in the cinema!
  5. I really want to read this too as the film is one of my favourites, has me in floods everytime I watch it, has to go into my TBR along with many many others
  6. Oh sorry!!! This is the description they have put: A powerful story of tragedy and triumph and the forbidden love affair between a wealthy young man who is heir to his father's cotton plantation in Alexandria and a beautiful young servant girl. About the Author Soheir Khashoggi Soheir Khashoggi was born in Alexandria, Egypt. A member of one of Saudi's most prominent families, she has used her influence to highlight the plight of women across the Arab world. She has participated in conferences worldwide and was recently invited to speak at the international Women's World Forum Against Violence, an organization founded by Queen Sofia of Spain. Her acclaimed first novel, Mirage, was published in 1996 and was followed by Nadia's Song in 1999. She has four daughters and although based in Connecticut, is a frequent visitor to London and Cannes.

  8. I'm 28 and still get ID'd for alcohol and cigarettes (not that I buy them anymore!)
  9. Thanks for this! Looks like another nerd fest site for me so am happy The profile picture choices are quite random or am I missing something?

    Hi!

Hi and welcome! I'm new too!! Loving it so far though, there's just so much to look at on here and I'm sure you'll find the same! I also have read a few war stories and have a few more lined up, although I have some factual ones too! Have fun:)
  11. No I haven't heard of her, will check her out though, thanks:D I only started The Time Traveler's Wife last night but I'm already finding it really interesting, had a bit of trouble putting it down!
  12. I think I might have a bit of a problem now I've signed up to this forum, there's just so much to look at you can literally spend hours on here! I have damn housework to do!
  13. Oh good, pleased to hear it!!
  14. Ive just realised that I've completely missed out my love of the weird and wonderful Robert Rankin! What an interesting mind he has!
  15. Robert Rankin is responsible for my love of reading, I never touched a book willingly until I read Garden of Unearthly Delights, it was so completely and utterly off the wall it had me hooked, then there was no going back! I think I've read nearly all of them apart from the more recent ones (really should get back into them). My favourite is Waiting for Godalming, just the blurb on the back has me giggling!! I try and explain his books to people, I just get strange looks haha!! Sex, Drugs and Sausage Rolls is another of my favourites too! Oh there are so many to choose from though!
  16. I tend to buy most of my books from Amazon, however I could literally spend hours in Waterstones, it is a bit pricey, however I just find it an elegant shop (yes I know I'm a nerd!)
  17. I agree MuggleMagic! As usual, the book is far far better and more in depth than the film, it's a very interesting idea. Adam, I can recommend female fiction writers who base their books during war time britain, but I'm not sure you'd be interested in those?? I really like war time books too! Fiction or non fiction

    G'day!

Hi Bel-Ami, I'm new too!! Hope you have fun here!
  19. Im from Cardiff, in Wales, there don't seem to be many Welshie's on here!
  20. Thanks everyone! I hope I don't babble away too much on the forum's, not sure if I'm any good at book reviewing but I guess there's only one way to find out!
  21. I loved this book, I'm always on the look out for the less well known chick lit authors and I really wasn't disappointed with this one. It's a while since I read it now but I don't really remember crying that much, I know it was sad but also uplifting because she writes about how they all get on with life after death. I've read Alphabet Weekends by the same author and thoroughly enjoyed that too so am now on the look out by other books by her!
  22. I've read all of Dorothy Koomson's books and really enjoyed them all, I think she's a really refreshing author writing original stories which are slightly off the normal chick lit track.
  23. Hiya! My name is Naomi, i'm a 28 year old female from Cardiff, I'm into all kinds of music and love most kind of films too, mainly girly ones or war films, bit of a difference I know. Books wise, I like reading books that are made into films for some unknown reason, but my book choices are mainly the same as my film choices, although mostly chick lit, I'm currently reading (although almost finished) The Baby Group by Rowan Coleman, the first I've read by this author but I've actually really enjoyed it. My next book is The Time Travelers Wife which I'm told is extremely sad. Anyway enough babbling!! Feel free to ask anything (answers aren't guaranteed though hehe) Naomi
