  1. Sent a friend's request ... Your from Scotland ... you lucky thing! I have a lot of Scottish ancestry and though not nationalistic am rather proud of having Ancestors help in Mary Queen of Scots (I think ... could be another one!) escape.

  2. Wilkommen, Escargot! Ich bin Suzanna Addison. Ich liebe schreiben! (I love writing:writing: ... Is that right? I taught myself basic German years ago and therefore real rusty on the lingo!) Anyway's I am new-ish here and I like fantasy and thrillers mainly. One of my favourite author's is Dean Koontz. And I am a classic stereotypical bookworm! Have fun I am!
  3. Ariana Franklin ... I'll look that one up. Thanks.
  4. Well, I have had some very good suggestions ... now I need a fortune to follow all of them through!
  5. I prefer to buy books new. I like to cause the cracks in the spine - I buy in shops and online but as I'm agoraphobic I buy online mostly.
  6. Hello Silentborn... love your username!
  7. Ah well, I'm generally in bed by then and the tv in my room doesn't have a sky box that I need to get that channel. Grrr ... so, I miss out. Anyways, I hope to get one during the switchover if not before. But for now I prefer to watch DVD's.
  8. I remember Cadfael being on Tele, I wish they'd repeat those.
  9. Can anyone tell me the exact order of at least the first to the fifth Bernard Knight stories, please? I really want to give them a go but no one seems to list in chronological order.
  10. Yesterday after two months waiting I recieved my parcel of fantasy books ... Some new authors, Brent Weeks and Adrian Tchaikovsky, and old, Terry Pratchett. So, I will be a lot of fantasy - reviews too come!
  11. Oh really? I am going to buy some of Crowner John as I like him! Is he really that good?
  12. I wish I could see them. I am agoraphobic and nowhere near anywhere where they would play! Again thanks for the welcome!
  13. Inspectors Morse and Lewis. Inspector Lynley Inspector Frost Sherlock Holmes Hercule Poirot In no particular order and for varying reasons. Morse is a bit pig-headed at times get an idea and sticks to it even if the evidence suggests otherwise and can be nasty to Lewis (which makes me want to hurt Morse!) But he does get the job done and will see sense at the right moment. Lewis is intelligent thinks a little bit more and though softened by Oxford life he still is proud of his Nothern roots a lets them show. He isn't so nasty to his sidekick and solves the case by elimination rather than by immediate conviction on one person - and he doesn't fall in love in practically every episode either! Lynley is gorgeous and clever - and is not afraid of being told off by his female sidekick Sharon Small's Sergeant Havers! There is definite attraction between the two of them but they are professional and show true compassion to ALL concerned! Frost - David Jason ... need I say more! Holmes and Poirot are good and clever though not actual detectives and I love Holmes attempts at early Forensics and Poirot's quiet observations. My favourites anyway but I hope to get more in the list soon.
  14. I loved this book, I found it incredible atmospheric and truly scary in places. I couldn't put it down as I was waiting to see what happens next and I loved the racial diversity in the story. I read it once years ago and will probably start again later this year. I would give it five out of five.
  15. I agree with Scarlette - I shall be avoiding this like the plague - Modern versions of classic stories I don't mind. Like Bride And Prejudice and Bridget Jones Diary and Clueless (a modern retelling of Emma) but - please! No I definitely won't be reading this! I'm too much of a purist!
  16. Yep, I thought so. I love the group. Got all their albums on my ipod.
  17. I am reading Shadow in the Wind I think it's called. It has me gripped but I do find it very atmospheric and can only take small doses every now and then. I love it though!
  18. I have read Oliver Twist; A Tale of Two Cities; The Pickwick Papers; Bleak House; and Little Dorrit and reading Martin Chuzzlewit. Favourite so far is A Tale of Two Cities.
  19. My favourite films that I can think of now: Robin Hood: Prince of Theives - Any villain that wants to call of christmas is a hero to me! Schindlers List: Nobody under the age of fifteen should watch this - this film is all the more poignant for being true. Pirates of the Carribbean trilogy - Yes, the more recent that will appear on my list, I adore these films with great passion and its six hours of Johnny Depp ... and the last one was brilliant and the best - I can't wait to see if they continue the story. And how they would without The Turners! Casablanca - A classic that any decent filmwatcher should have in their collection. But have a box of tissues handy! Arsenic and Old Lace - Cary Grant's finest. A horror spoof starring Peter Lorre. Watch it and you won't regret it! Almost anything by Walt Disney. I can't think of more though I probably will later.
  20. Well, as you can see I have my sig and my own avvie... the best Mr. Darcy with the best Lizzie - I am one of the few that preferred Kiera's portrayal than Jennifer ... for one Kiera was the age of Lizzie when she was acting the role. Jen was a good five years older. Also Kiera has the figure of a Georgian Empire woman - Jen was far too big and busty!
  21. Well yes. Though I have to tidy up the kitchen and my bedroom soon. I would read them.
  22. My top Three: The Secret Garden - Love how Mary blossoms like the garden when she realises that there are more things in the world than her to think about. Bram Stokers Dracula - Read this the once a few years ago and it haunts me still. I will have to read it again. Bleak House Charles Dickens - I loved this story and read it in a matter of months. One of the rare books I wished I could start all over again the minute I finished!
  23. Thanks for the welcome. I am enjoying it so far. Wilde Lily: I haven't started reading it yet as I have so many other things to read. It's really to gain insight into how a normal, sweet nice woman like she was (and she was not a proper member of the party!) Can love someone like him? That has always interested me, what makes people like each other!
  24. Christopher Lee AND Alan Rickman? I better not go to the cinema ... I wouldn't be able to control myself because their voices make me dippy at the best of times but to hear them in ONE movie? Johnny Depp is absolutely fantastic though my favourite role of his was an early one: What's Eating Gilbert Grape. He played the older brother of an Autistic child played excellently by Leonardo Di Caprio. I am a younger sister of an Autistic woman and I understand that story line completely. Helena Bonham Carter has always been one of my ultimate favourite actresses!!! Can't wait for this!
