  1. I skim-read Dead to the World last night I bet I can guess your key words (or should I say word! ) I've no idea what to pick up next. I bought a book about neo-liberalism last week which is tempting me but I think my brain will literally pack up and leave if I expose it to more academic reading. Think I might read the next Anne Rice Vampire Chronicle on my list. I've no idea what it is or if I own it yet
  2. Nooooooooooooooooo! She's great isn't she! I didn't think too much of the last episode and like most people, the songs weren't familiar to me. However, I'm willing to forgive them after they gave us Madonna week.
  3. I think she's his biological Mother and represents his desire to belong. That's my two penny's worth
  4. I've lost my reading mojo as I think my brain is on strike following a few heavy months of uni work. However, Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse books manage to restore my mojo everytime so I'm going to delve into one before bed. Not sure which one yet
  5. Welcome to the forum
  6. That's too funny....especially considering that you'd just eaten said item!
  7. I'm so jealous Rawr! I've just had a sandwich which I'm sure my stomach didn't require. Eeeek!
  8. I totally agree although I'm a fan of Bowie's so I like the original too. Hurt by Johnny Cash is amazing!!! I can also never decide if I prefer Bob Dylan's or The Byrds' version of Mr Tambourine Man Hmmmmmmm.........
  9. I'm not sure. Maybe he feels inferior and refers to himself as "idiot orphan boy" because of this. I loved Father Timothy. I think I'm in the minority here but I prefered the movie. Probably because I'm a closet romantic
  10. Hello Character! Welcome to the Forum
  11. I haven't had Jaffa Cakes for ages! Muller Vitality raspberry yoghurt. It gets me going in the morning
  12. I'm just about to watch The Changeling.
  13. Unfortunately Nicola's test blacked out the entire city of Colorado Springs and set the power generator on fire! Unfortunately Nicola doesn't actually exist. Unfortunately Nicola shows no sign of a tan. (I know the feeling!! ) Unfortunately Nicola looks nothing like Britney Unfortunately Nicola was talking at the time and didn't see him. She ended up covered in sick! Lovely!
  14. Just about to have mushroom risotto with a jacket potato
  15. I agree with Stephen Fry (and second the need for him to be knighted!!) Julie Walters and Sir Ian McKellen. I also love Sue Johnston. I thought she was fantastic in A Passionate Woman on BBC recently.
  16. For the past 15 or so years, I haven't eaten red meat or poultry but recently I decided to try it again, wondering how I'd find it. Apart from bacon, I didn't like anything at all.....chicken, beef, lamb, sausage, hamburger.......yack! So here's to the next 15 years!
  17. I don't like Jesse either. He's just so smarmy! Yack! I love it when they end on a big number so I loved loved loved Madonna week
  18. Is it right to hop from Alexander Skarsgard to Matt Smith in the space of one evening? My Grandma would probably call me a floozy!
  19. I read the book after seeing the movie (which I fell head over heels in love with) however as Vodkafan said, apart from the gameshow theme the two are very different so I didn't feel like I was drawing comparisons. 1. Who was your favourite character and why? Hmmmm.....I don't think I had a favourite. While I liked individual characters, no single one outshone the rest. 2. Was there a particular part you enjoyed/disliked more than the rest? I liked how Prem Kumar turned out to be the 'bad guy'. Having seen the movie first, I wasn't expecting this twist at all. I also liked how the story was structured around the gameshow. I didn't enjoy how everything was neatly wrapped up at the end. 3. Was this the first book you've read in this genre/by this author, has it encouraged you to read more? This is my first time for both author and genre and while I think I would probably try both again, I'm not rushing out to buy anything. 4. Were there any parts/ideas you struggled with? None that I can think of. 5. Overall, was reading the book an enjoyable experience? I enjoyed it but thought the ending was a bit too neat. More discussion questions: 1. Why does Vikas Swarup choose the name "Ram Mohammad Thomas" for his protagonist? The names represent three different religions -- besides displaying India's diversity, what does this say about Ram Mohammad Thomas as a person? For me, Ram existed in a state of uncertainty, moving around and never really settling. I think his name represents this too as it isn't settled in one religion.
