  1. OK well books like that, I could only read it and no other. After all, it is so great, I wouldn't want my attention divided.
  2. I don't care one way or another, as long as the inside is the same.
  3. I have an account, i actuallyl paid for the lifetime membership. i've been a member a long time, since Dec. 2005, go figure. I haven't updated with new books though.
  4. I still have my LPs, but I have no turntable, so I haven't been able to listen to them in years, but I refuse to get rid of them. I listen to them in MP3 format, so at least I don't miss the song. I do miss the popping and cracking. The oldest album I own in the original format is "The Monkees" first album from 1966. My parents purchased it in 1966. Another old album that I got 2nd hand was Iron Butterfly's In-A-Gada-Da-Vida. I have quite a few originals from the 60s that I got in the 80s in 2nd hand shops. The rest of my LPs are from the early 80s before CDs became big.
  5. In my to 10 list for this year. That is not an easy spot to get.
  6. over 1/3 of the way through!
  7. Book Army, never heard of them, but it looks interesting. Thanks for the suggestion.
  8. OK, but be warned, it may take more than 1 month.
  9. Yes, that and the Harry Potter films are the only 2 I'm really psyched about.
  10. I read this about 2 years ago, and I honestly don't remember much about it. It didn't impress me. I think we've grown jaded as a society, and some of the books that were 'great' when written are just ok today.
  11. Orgasmatron by Motorhead I am the one, Orgasmatron, the outstretched grasping hand My image is of agony, my servants rape the land Obsequious and arrogant, clandestine and vain Two thousands years of misery, of torture in my name Hypocrisy made paramount, paranoia the law My name is called religion, sadistic, sacred 'lady of the night'. I twist the truth, I rule the world, my crown is called deceit I am the emperor of lies, you grovel at my feet I rob you and I slaughter you, your downfall is my gain And still you play the sycophant, and revel in your pain And all my promises are lies, all my love is hate I am the politician, and I decide your fate. I march before a martyred world, an army for the fight I speak of great heroic days, of victory and might I hold a banner drenched in blood, I urge you to be brave I lead you to your destiny, I lead you to your grave Your bones will build my palaces, your eyes will stud my crown For I am Mars, the God of War, and I will cut you down.
  12. My favorite Jane Green book as well. I read this years ago. I don't even remember how I found out about it. Someone probably suggested it to me. I've read a few other Jane Green books, but none have stuck with me like that one did.
  13. I just read this great little book I found out in the domain at feedbooks dot com. It is called Biblical Mysteries written by someone who calls themselves Lonely Soul. Not very long, less than 200 pages, but insightful. I did know a lot of what they were talking about, but there were some gems. Not bad for a freebie.
  14. You people have inspired me. Over the next few weeks I am going to clean up the book shelves. It may take me a whole month to do all of them, but I will get it done.
  15. I read "Veronika Decides to Die" a few weeks ago. I wasn't thrilled about it, but I'm not giving up. I have "The Devil & Miss Prim", and I plan to give that a go.
  16. OK unfair question for me. I watch between 300-450 movies a year, and not all of them are good or even OK. So I went through my netflix list which is only about 1/2 the story, but I found some I hated. The Fog - What was that? Awful!!! Close My Eyes - Got this one because of Alan Rickman . OMG I hated it. I still love Alan though. Pi: Faith in Chaos - There are no words. These are all my 1 star ratings. I hardly go below 2 stars, so you know these were bad...unwatchable.
  17. I have a noisey commute too. NYC is not known for quiet. I've learned over the years to tune it out. When it is really bad (noisey kids or a 'preacher') I put my ipod on. I can read to music with no problem and it drowns out the other noise.
  18. 1) Metallica 2) Motorhead 3) Megadeth 4) The Beatles 5) Eric Clapton (and any of his affiliations)
  19. I have to be in the mood for one, the one's i've seen that I like: Jesus Christ Superstar Quadrophenia Kismet Singing in the Rain Scrooge (1971) Rocky Horror Across the Universe There are a few more. But I can't just watch them at any time. Sometimes they are annoying.
  20. They were cousins in the book. So maybe it was original. I know the version I read used the long title Frankenstein Or The Modern Prometheus and the publication date was in the 60s, so maybe it was not edited. I dunno.
  21. I didn't like Teacher Man at first, but then it got real interesting. Nice conclusion to the trilogy, I think you'll enjoy it.

  22. Mwahaha! The evil plan is working!! Welcome.
  23. Hi,

I like Madame Bovary so far, I hope it only gets better.

Did you read the rest of Frank McCourt's Trilogy. I enjoyed them all.

  24. Chrissi, I think I just read the mainstream version of the book. I don't remember the blood relation thing.
  25. Hey, Thanks for the welcome. I live in The Bronx. I work in Manhattan. You?
