  1. I'm very chicken when it comes to challenges. I've done the '50 book challenge; for 3 years. This year I thought I'd do a '75 book challenge'. I've done the 15,000 page challenge as well, sometimes I make it sometimes I don't. I've done A-Z challenges (author and title) have not completed one yet. And I'm doing a classic challenge (on Goodreads they said 7) but I'm up to 10, and I'm doing the doorstep challenge, but so far, I've only read one chunky book. I like the 50/75 book challenges the best. I suppose because it is not much of a challenge.
  2. I read Family Tree about 2 or 3 years ago. I see you gave it 1/5 stars. It wasn't that great, I agree.
  3. I wonder if my daughter wants to read "Breaking Dawn". She's read the first 2. She hasn't mentioned it to me. (she is only 10) Maybe I'll buy 3 and 4 for Christmas.
  4. OK, so this means I must read this before next year or so. It's collecting dust on my shelf.
  5. I saw this yesterday. I'm usually not thrilled with ITV, but this was a pretty good adaptation. And that Tom Hardy is a dish!
  6. I'm with you on the tiny print. I'm trying to get through "Pillars of the Earth". And although the book is good, they type is so darn small, I can't get through it. And have you ever seen Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" paper back. OMG! I'm amazed I actually read it, and quickly too. I've not come across too many books where the paragraphs were never ending. I've been lucky, but I'm sure that would annoy me too.
  7. Yeah I did hear that, but those were illegal copies and the customers were refunded. I'm interested to know why they didn't do the research to make sure the copies they were using were legal ones? That's a little disturbing. It hasn't happened to me though. I've not bought any books that were older. The older copies I get from other sites that are in the public domain and email them to my kindle. Most of the books on my kindle are done that way.
  8. I do have a method, but it only makes sense to me. I have an 8 foot tall, 2 column book shelf. I think there are about 7 shelves on either side. Each shelf is organized by similar genre. One shelf will have religious/spirituality books, one will have memoirs/bios etc... I have one shelf of TBR books. Sometimes there is overlap and maybe 2 genre's per shelf. Some of the shelves are 2 books deep. to the untrained eye it is a mess. But ask me for a book, and I will be able to find it in under a minute.
  9. I keep them. I've become a lending library for my friends. They ask if I have a certain book, I lend it to them, they read it and give it back. I've never thrown a book out or swapped. I really need to give some to the local library or sell them or something, because it is getting a little out of hand. 4 book shelves of books is quite a bit...no?
  10. Good luck with your goal, it seems like you will meet it. I'm not brave enough to do 100 yet, I'm doing 75 this year. I've done 50 in the past and always surpassed. Maybe next year I'll be bolder.
  11. How many people do you know that have read The Nightstalker: Life and Crimes of Richard Ramirez - Philip Carlo ???? ONE....me! LOL! I read this years and years ago. I thought it was intersting for sure.
  12. I have always been an ecclectic reader, so I've read at least one book of every major genre. I used to shy way from Romantic Fiction (the nice kind not the bodice ripping kind), and then I read Jane Green and from there found there are some really good romantic authors. I've always liked sci-fi and fantasy, but didn't read it exclusively. I still find myself reading more memoir's/autobiographies than anything else though. I also was never big on horror, but I've learned to appreciate some of the authors works like King and some more supernatural stuff like from Koontz. Being in on-line book forums, I get a lot of inspiration to read different things. I've even read a western, but don't think I'll be doing that again any time soon. LOL!
  13. I love my Kindle, but have not given up pb books. Why I like the Kindle is it is so much easier to read it on the subway (underground). When you are standing all you have to do is push a button to turn the page, you don't have to adjust yourself, your bag, your umbrella...etc, to turn the page. I like it for other reasons too. but on occasion I do read pbs. I have so many of them anyway.
  14. I don't know, I would guess 100. I have some in my Kindle some on my shelves and some audio books in my ipod.
  15. 35 more books to my goal. and 5 months to do it in!
  16. I did really like it, i didn't want to read it, my friend convinced me to, and I was glad.
  17. Just added my last 4 books, I've been slowing down. Wonder if I'll make my goal of 75? It's worth a shot.
  18. Well I have 46 more books to go to make my goal of 75.
  19. I can't complain about the New York Public Libraries, they have varied materials. The main library in Manhattan is the mecca, but I don't usually go there. I don't usually stay in the library to look around. I order the books on line and go to one of the small branches near my job to pick it up. The Library in my neighborhood is OK, not the best, but not the worst. They have computers set up and WiFi stations now. They also have classes throughout the year. So I suppose I am pretty happy with the system.
  20. Butter Pecan is tops, or anything with nuts, also Rocky Road is high on the list.
  21. I started "Pillars" and thought it was very good. The type is real small for me, so I had to put it down. I do plan to read it though, I bought "World Without End", so I will be sure to read both.

    Non Fiction

I have to force myself to read more ficiton I read so much non-fiction. I like memoirs/autobiographies the most. I also read a lot of nutrition and writing books.
  23. I haven't read this but it is on my TBR list. Those Who Save Us by Jenna Blum takes place during WWII. Has anyone read this? The reviews are great.
  24. Not since I was 12, and I read 2 books that year in one sitting. I don't have time now as an adult. The books were "Are You There God It's Me Margaret" by Judy Blume and "Karen: A true story told by her mother" by Marie Killilea.
