  1. The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep
  2. "Are You There God It's Me Margaret" sticks in my mind. I hated reading as a child, and that was one of the first books I read from cover to cover in one shot, it took me 4 hours, I was 12. I was hooked on Judy Blume after that. It was a nice day, I didn't go out to play, watch TV or do anything but read that book. I loved it so much I convinced my daughter (who is 10) to read it and she also loved it. Also as a child I loved reading auto-biographies. I read and loved a Helen Keller biography I read, and I also read this book entitled "Karen", it was about a handicap girl. Funny, all these years later, I still love biographies/autobios/memoirs.
  3. I also tell people to start with Carrie. It is well known and short and his first big time novel. I would work my way up from there, probably The Shining or Cujo. Or if you can find "The Bachman Books" a collection of his earlier works, that is a great collection. It has "The Long Walk" which is classic King.
  4. To get to my goal of 75 I have to read 6.6 books a month from now until 31, December.
  5. The Dark Side of Nowhere - Neal Shusterman
  6. I never have walked out, I've fallen asleep on a few though.
  7. I wonder if people realize that the term "Thoughts Become Things" is more than material. Things can be material, but they also can be intangible. Basically the idea is what you think is what you get. If you think "I'm going to have a good day, I'm grateful I have a job, blah blah blah", you will go through your day better than if you wake up saying "Man, I have to go to work, it sucks." People only take what they want away from the Law of Attraction. The book does talk about obtaining wealth through this law, but it does talk about the intangible too. Many people I know live in the world of misery, but then they walk around talking about how awful everything is, I can't imagine why they are miserable.
  8. New buys of hard copies are about 10 a year. New Kindle buys are unknown, but probably less, I'd say maybe 4 a year (I like finding free books). I'm a second hander too. Library sales, fairs....
  9. Pretty sure it was a search engine. I was specifically looking for a board that talked about books and reading.
  10. I dunno Roxie, I'm try to be grateful for what I have. It would be lovely if it would be a world wide thing.
  11. Aftershock: Earthquake in New York
  12. The Way We Live Now - Anthony Trollope
  13. I don't have enough King books!!
  14. Hay, verbena and mignonette scented the languid July day. --Old New York by Edith Wharton
  15. I did the math for myself, and as far as borrowed books it would take me 714 years to reach 25,000. As far as total books read, it still would take me 333 years to reach that number!
  16. Right KW, and when the money doesn't manifest people say it is garbage. It is much more to it than that, and they really stress the money part, and gloss over the other things like health, good relationships...etc. Someone who is more familar with the law of attraction (not the average consumer), understands where the seed comes from. Roxi, it is more than thinking positive thoughts, there is a science to it. People think positive thoughts often, but also simultaniously think defeating thoughts (unconsciously). The book does bring that to light, but like I said, if one is really interested, they need to study many more authors.
  17. I've read and enjoyed Shakespeare's Hamlet very much. The only modern play I've read and enjoyed was 'night Mother. Usually I will not pick one up for the heck of it. Someone really has to talk it up like they did with 'night Mother for me to even consider it.
  18. I read this and saw the movie. It really is nothing but positive thinking and visualization packaged for the masses. Nothing new here. I've been working with positive thinking and visualization for years. I've read Dr. Wayne Dyer, Norman Vincent Peale and the like way before this book came out. I guess it is a good starter book for anyone interested in it, but I also think it leaves a lot out and if someone is interested, they need to do more studying about it and get the full picture.
