  4. LOVED this book K1nS.. It's so fun and such a quick read! I hope you continue enjoying it.
  5. Hi and welcome, Isla!!
  6. Thanks for your votes, everyone! By the overwhelming majority, I'll definitely start with either Jane Eyre or Wuthering Heights. Once I finish my current book, I'll read a bit about both and see which I'll read first. Thanks again!
  7. Hi Karl and Welcome!! Curious if you've read "Pillars of the Earth," since it's supposed to be a historical fiction. My husband is about to start reading and we've been looking up info on the threads here to get an idea what he can expect. Have you read it?
  8. Hi Petit! I tried to send you a PM back in response to yours, but now it says you are not receiving Private Messages? Let me know when it's figured out and I'll resend happily. :)

  10. Was wondering if you'd made it through it or given up. I won't touch it! I hope your next read is waaaaaay better!

    Aloha!

Hi and Welcome! Hopefully you'll become as addicted to this place as so many of us! Cool that you used to be a teacher.. You should be able to lend some good comments in the Classics section!
  13. Good luck with it! I gave up cheese a while back, despite my intense love for cheese plates. Part of a no dairy, no meat thing. Difficult at first , but it eases up and once you start realizing how many substitutes there are for cheese (soy, etc), you don't feel like you're missing out too much anymore.
  14. I enjoyed Weisberger's first two novels, but the third (Chasing Harry Winston) just didn't grab me at all. I read about 40 pages but just couldn't get into it... it felt very superficial and hollow to me, even for some of the more strictly-entertainment-value-only chick lit I love. I'm all for a mindless entertainer, but this one just didn't pull me at all. I kept it on my shelf in hopes I can try again.. but who knows?
  15. So far you're "You'll be addicted!" warning is true.. I can only imagine your next warning will be true too. I will cower in fear. I don't want to go broke because of books!
  16. I usually only have a couple of unread books on hand at a time, also.. I have a TBR read that has maybe 15-20 novels (and growing) on it, but I guess it's truly more of a "wish list" since I certainly don't have most of them! I tend to read what I have, then go out and buy more. Unless I see books I know are on my list, then I'll pick those up as I find them.
  17. I know, Michelle... You really would think that someone that had so much interest in re-distributing works would also like to discuss them. I noticed she only had 1 post though, despite the discussion that ensued from the thread she started. Shame, indeed.
  18. Geez.. I had no idea us Americans eating habits differed so widely from the English/British eating habits!
  19. This could be it, exactly.. It would make sense if there were copyright laws against the redistribution, I suppose. Hadn't thought of it before. Thanks, Janet
  20. I know this thread is old, but have recently received the great suggestion to check out Project Gutenberg if there are any titles that I can't get my hands on right away. I was curious if anyone else has discovered any other online sites that offers books free of charge. So far, I've checked out: book-bot.com online-literature.com gutenberg.org These sites have many of the classics, but am also interested in any other sites that my list more modern works as well. Any ideas or suggestions?
