  1. Wow.. I'm ashamed.. I haven't read a classic in so long.. since college 4 years ago! I've been inspired by this thread though. There were quite a few classics we read for classes through HS and college (Tess, Scarlet Letter, etc) that were great reads. I'm going to add some of these classics to my list to be read.. I bet I'll appreciate them even more now that I'm a bit older, too!
  2. me, too.. i don't know why it wasn't on my list before, but it definitely is now! i'll try to track it down soon.
  3. Yep, you're right.. still on Slumdog Millionaire. We were joking because it's based on an Indian man, who played India's version of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire," and is filmed in India. Since I'm in India, I was kidding around asking if I could find it here.
  4. I really liked the film adaptation of "Little Women".. the most recent one, w/Claire Danes, Winona Ryder, etc.
  5. Surely I can pick that up in India, right?
  6. Ooooh I'm going to add that to my list right now! Thanks guys.. Great suggestion for me!
  7. Thanks for the help with the smilies, Kylie!! And Chimera -- we're about to start looking at locations for the next rotation. The markets are so bad that we're not sure what all will be available.. It's supposed to be another int'l destination, but who knows at this point w/all that's going on in the financial realm. My top choices would be Singapore and Sydney, but not sure if any assignments will even be available there. If not, we may end up going back to Manhattan and doing another domestic rotation there. Time will tell....
  8. bless his heart... it's not for the weak of stomach or mind, is it?! ;)

  9. I'd like to see: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Doubt Seven Pounds Slumdog Millionaire Still not sure on seeing Shopaholic when it comes out... movies are never as good as the books for me. Had a terrible experience reading Twilight, then seeing the movie, which I thought was dreadful. Never fails..
  10. oh and hope your boyfriend's drs appts go well today! keeping my fingers crossed :)

  11. Thanks, Peacefield! Where in the US do you live? I grew up in Birmingham, Alabama and lived there until approx a year ago.
  12. Loved them!! I can't wait to see what books are popular when I have a child! I'll probably read my own teenagers books, out of nostalgia
  13. Thanks everyone, for the welcome! Nice to hear from so many of you! And how does everyone have this "wave" smiley? I don't seem to have that one.. Am I missing something?? Aaaaaand the dumb questions from me begin...
  14. oh, and thanks also for the nice comment about my profile pic! :) sweet of you!

  15. Thanks, Echo! Since my husband's Indian, we had TWO weddings -- both in America of course, but one traditional Indian and one traditional American. This shot was from our Indian reception. :)

And BTW.. love your name.. was reading yesterday about how it's your middle name and is passed down from generation to generation. It's so lovely and lady-like!

  16. Hi Charm! :)

I'm settling in quite well -- thanks for asking! People ARE really friendly here and its much bigger than my old forum; so much to explore and I've already found tons that's interesting to me! You've been a member for a little while here, right?

    hello

Hi, rwemad! Looks like we're the newbies here today Welcome!
  20. My friend was a HUGE Jacob fan by the end.. He turned out to be her favorite character. I'm not there with her yet.. still an Edward fan.. but at least it's good to know there are some diff perspectives out there! I tend to get bogged down in the "La Push" stories and legends, so I'm hoping I enjoy the Jacob perspective in Book 4.
  21. I was wondering the same thing, Raven You must enlighten us, BL!
  22. I landed in America the day before everything happened here... I'd just gotten home for Thanksgiving break. My husband was still here but is at least of Indian descent, so he fits in a bit better He just laid low for a week or so. We postponed my return flight back for 2 weeks to give everything a chance to settle first.
  23. Hopefully she'll finish it soon... My friend said that the final book in the series gives some perspective from Jacob Black, which sounds interesting. And I did like the bits in the second book that gave some perspective from Edward. I think I would tend to agree with you -- adding layer to this series could be a very positive thing from what I've read so far.
