  1. Well. I was slightly off, but close enough, since the book has pictures!

    What? You need security people?

  2. Haha! I'm so glad your BF understands your need to watch Marines naked in the shower.. That's a true connection you've formed there! :) I've seen previews for it here in Hong Kong recently, and thought of you.. Now you can watch it anytime you want! :)

  3. Oooh this one looks great, Charm! It looks all scandalous and spooky.. I'm definitely putting it on my list right now. Thanks for letting me know about it! :hugs:

I hope you're well! I can't wait to catch up with everyone once all our company gets home safely and I'm not so busy. I love your new avatar too.. from the same line you like, yes? :)

  4. Hi Mac!

Sorry for my delayed response.. This has been a really busy week since my mom arrived this past Thursday! She's in Hong Kong (yep you were right :) ) for a few weeks, so we've been out and about just about every day making sure she sees some of HK.

Other than that, things are pretty normal here.. It's actually been raining here the last few days, too! I hope it's cleared up by now in your area. If not, that's a long time of rain! ;)

I hope you have a great day... Thanks for your message and saying hello! I'm so behind.. just wanted to come stop by quickly before our day starts. :) Let me know if anything exciting has happened in the last few days for you!

  5. So glad you liked it! I should have thought to check your member's thread right away.. Sorry about that! :) Some of her other books are strong, also.. lots of Picoult out there. Thanks for pasting in your review for me.. I'm so happy you didn't hate it! :)

  6. Hey Dan!

Thanks for letting me know how you did with the Bray book.. I'll still give it a try, but now I'll be more inclined to let it go if the beginning doesn't grab me. Always helpful to get a recommendation to work through the rough bits, or just move on to something better. :)

So you probably got through some of "Plain Truth" by now.. We've been out of town for a long weekend so I'm just now getting the msg. :) How are you liking it??

Also, just ran across a series the other day that I'm thinking of trying.. It SEEMS like it will be sort of chick-litty but is set in the early 1900's (if I remember correctly..) The novels are called "The Luxe Novels" and are by Anna Godbersen. You may want to look at them since it combines a time period you like with some chick-litty topics, if you're still in the mood for that. :)

  7. Hi Jewell,

I thought the Coraline movie was just ok.. the 3-D part was pretty neat, and the movie was cute, but it just isn't really directly up my alley. If you like whimsical circus scenes, fantasy adventures, etc in general, you'll probably love it! :) I'd say definitely give it a go if that's your thing!

Written and Directed by Henry Selick.. based on the 2002 novel of the same name by Neil Gaiman.

  8. Weekend over here! :( We went out hard Friday night, so spent the next day pretty much useless.. and today just doing all the usual Sunday errands: grocery shopping, washing clothes, etc. We're trying to spend as much time as possible relaxing and hanging out w/friends before my mom arrives in 2 weeks -- She'll be here three weeks, so we'll be go-go-go then!

How was your weekend? Anything fun going on?

  9. haha.. mistaken for an American, huh? Funny!

Good luck as the classes continue.. senior year is tough sometimes!

  10. Hiya! Yep, doing good.. Got some great library books today, and have lunch plans with a friend tomorrow -- can't complain! :) How are you doing?

  11. I'm doing just that.. It's no wonder I was so behind on the boards! ;)

  12. So sorry for my prolonged response.. I haven't been near the computer if what feels like days! I have 3,007 unread posts !! Eek!! I'm determined to get caught up today though.. I miss all my book (and non-book) chatter! ;)

Just wanted to make sure you knew I wasn't ignoring you.. just been everywhere but at home!

I hope your weekend was good.. back to school/work/real life now, eh? ;)

  13. Hey, I was just grateful to FIND a hair salon that was actually written in English! ;)

Yes I think we're going to really enjoy HK.. I like our apartment a lot, and HK seems like a really fun city with more than enough to do. Plus Mom is visiting in less than a month now.. yey!!

I have a few blog updates set to be posted this week.. I did them this morning and am posting them one day at a time. That way I feel more like I'm doing work instead of just being behind :)

How much longer do you have left in school now? And have you done like ii yet and bought champagne for when you finally graduate?? hahaha.. :) Is balancing work and school tough, or do you have it pretty much down to a routine by now??

  14. I'm really excited about this author.. I've been living under a rock with you apparently (hey.. there are worse people to be under rocks with, okay?! ;) ) and haven't heard of him previously. I've only read reviews and synopsis of "The Crimson Petal and the White" but Mac gave me a suggestion to look up, and I'm going to look up the other 2 you mentioned. Let me know if you get your hands on any of his soon.. it may be a while before I do since I have a few books sitting here that I need to get through!

  15. I'm so glad to hear you liked The Crimson Petal and the White.. I've heard really good things about this after finding the title yesterday! I'm excited to read it now.. so many books and just not enough time!

I think your job sounds like a very rewarding job.. tough at times, and probably a major challenge, but what a rewarding position! The "good days" at this job must make you feel so needed and like all the tough work is worth it.

A police officer up next, eh?? I could never .. I'm way too much of a scaredy-cat! Doesn't it make you terrified? What drove you to want to do the police thing next?

Alabama is actually nice and fairly atypical of what you think of when you think "Alabama." ;) I only have TWO distant relatives with farms ;) .. although I do think the way of life and work they do is cool, secretly! I was from Birmingham, which is the largest city in Alabama, so I had a fairly "normal" upbringing, as boring as that is ;)

  16. You're right -- I'm on the Faber thread. I've never read any of his works -- I'm adding the crimson petal one to my list, and when I get back tonight, I'll look up the courage one.. Thanks for the tip :)

What kind of work do you do with adults with LDs? My mom teaches pre-school at a classroom focusing on children with special needs - autism, W-P, that sort of thing.

Originally, my husband and I are both from Alabama.. We definitely won't be going back to Alabama when we're done rotating because there's not that many jobs there that fit what he does, but we may end up back in the States. We'll see.. :)

  17. It IS quite the hunt.. I've never bought a handbag that I wanted to serve me years and years, so this has been interesting. I'm almost regretting my decision to forge into this search -- it's tiresome and we spend HOURS looking at handbags. What a waste.. Raja says it will all be worth it, so I'm holding out hope... but goodness gracious! I just want a bag I like!

How's your reading going? What did you move on to after the Montanari? :)

I love your member's thread by the way.. I'm so excited to keep up with it!

  18. Hi Paula! I'm glad to be back on the boards for a bit.. been so busy since the move!

How have you been doing? Any new updates since I've been so absent? :)

  19. Hi Chimera! :)

Doing well.. we are settled in for the most part! Even got our hair cuts yesterday from non-English speaking hair stylists.. was very interesting! The salon got good reviews and it was in the part of town we were going to be in, so we snatched it up. Had to have a translator to tell them what to do w/our hair... hehee. ended up ok though! :)

I've been so busy since the move that I haven't had a chance to catch up on the boards.. Hopefully tomorrow will be a good day for that one. :)

How have you been? Anything interesting happening?

  20. So how was the weekend ? :) I haven't been on in a few days due to being so busy, but I hope it was good and you got to read lots :)

Hong Kong it is.. we've been moving every 6 months for the past year and a half -- 4 rotations (2 domestic, 2 int'l), so we've done NYC, St. Louis, Bombay, Singapore/HK.. this is our last rotation then we're done with the moving. My husband works with Citigroup and we accepted this job so I'd have a chance to travel and he'd get to take advantage of the networking opps.. been great so far; kinda hate to see it ending soon. Back to normal, everyday life... *sigh*.... ;)

    What do you teach exactly?

And what's the rest of the story? :)

  21. Haha! I'd say the bulls-eye is quite fitting. ;)

Weekends good.. just moved to Hong Kong this weekend so we're getting settled in and finding our way around.

    How's yours?

  22. Afternoon here :) Thank ya!

Walked inadvertently into any trouble lately? Any funny stories to share with me? ;)

  23. Thanks, C! We are here and doing well.. It seems like a really fun city and should be lots to do. :) Today we're going to the tailor and looking for new cell phones, and tomorrow we're handbag and clothing shopping. All the usual moving to a new place stuff.. ordered groceries today, got subway passes yesterday, etc. So far, so good :)

    Thanks for asking!

    How are you doing??

  24. Hahha.. smart one! ;) Jk -- I do that all the time, on here AND on FB!

Oh, I'm not GOOD at singing.. I just can't imagine caring when I'm 4 margaritas in.

and haha! Raja is fairly flexible and totally not the jealous type -- I'd love to see if he batted an eye if that's how I presented it!

  25. Absolutely on the music.. as we get drunker, we can even wail along.
