I have read some of them, I don't think I've read all of them - or if I have it's been long enough that I don't recall them from your synopses. I remember the giant, prince, and firework ones. I really enjoyed them - not as much as his plays or Dorian, but I did like them. I don't find the religion thing that surprising, given that he grew up in Ireland

Really glad you enjoyed Wilde's short stories

Okay I hate Strictly so I'm out of this thread. Dancing, people, dancing!

Hahahaha sorry I'm just sticking my head in the door but that's hilarious.

I started reading The Returned by Jason Mott last night, so hopefully I'll get back on reading track and squeeze a few more books in before the end of the year.

In A Dark, Dark Wood - Ruth Ware Synopsis: Nora hasn’t seen Clare for ten years. Not since Nora walked out of school one day and never went back. In a dark, dark wood there was a dark, dark house. Until, out of the blue, an invitation to Clare’s hen do arrives. Is this a chance for Nora to finally put her past behind her? And in the dark, dark house there was a dark, dark room But something goes wrong. Very wrong. And in the dark, dark room… Some things can’t stay secret for ever. *** Review: Hmm. This is going to be a short review, because I don't have a lot to say on it.This was one of those strange books which, although I know it wasn't very good, I enjoyed all the same. A guilty pleasure, I suppose. The writing was not terrible, although it wasn't great at times, and I suppose that made it more readable; making it easier for me to plow through to the end and satisfy my curiosity about whodunnit. The actual plot, though... and the characters.... not so much. It certainly had potential, but ultimately there is too much that makes very little sense and it all amounts to an anti-climactic reveal that really does not lend itself to the extent of the drama that occurs before it. It kept me guessing right until the end, but that's mostly because the end didn't make a whole pile of sense. So why on earth did I enjoy it so much? Honestly I don't know, but it definitely held my attention. Maybe I'm just a glutton for punishment. I honestly can't recommend this novel, unless you feel like reading the equivalent of a b-movie that's so bad it's curiously enjoyable. All the same... I think that might appeal to some people the same way it appeals to me! Rating: 3/5

You might enjoy it, I don't know - have you read any of his other books? I haven't, but the name is familiar. I shall look it up! Normal sounds scary, but it's not really written well enough to succeed in being scary!

50/50 Interview - Lou Morgan and Me!
Nollaig replied to Michelle's topic in Author Interviews and Forum Visits
Great interview - very interesting format! Enjoyed reading about the inspiration for Sleepless as I loved that book -
Oooh I really hope you enjoy it. It's one of my favourite books.

Oooh ooh that reminds me - Wesley! Loved Wes in Angel. Didn't like Gunn either admittedly, but Lorne! How can you not love Lorne, he's fabulous!
-
'Hush' is a fantastic episode - the show definitely has its moments in the remaining seasons, but yeah - I dislike Dawn, Tara, Anya, Jonathan/Warren/Andrew, Glory/Ben etc. I also despised Riley. I love Angel!! Love Doyle and Lorne (both actors sadly dead now), and Cordelia undergoes the most well-developed and credible character development in the entire two shows - arguably one of the best I've ever seen.

The new eps of Supernatural are pretty good so far, promising, but so have been the starts of previous seasons. HTGAwM is not airing fast enough, I need to know what happens!! I've seen Buffy before, when I was a teenager my whole life was Buffy and Angel. The first three seasons are worth watching, after that (when Angel leaves to start his own show), I don't think it's as good. Some good episodes, like the musical one. But nah. I watch to season 3 and then go to L.A. with Angel

Eeeysh, three 2/6s in a row. Hope your next read is better!

Over the weekend I rewatched the first season of Buffy. Kinda appropriate time of year for it, I guess! It popped up on Netflix so I said I'd give it a go. Also keeping up with new episodes weekly of Supernatural, Doctor Who, and How To Get Away With Murder. Anyone else watching How To Get Away With Murder? Phenomenal show, which I'm sure I've said before in this thread, but I seriously can't emphasize that enough.

Autumn-y! The last couple days have just been dull and grey, but dry, not windy, just very passive weather. Today it's wet after some rain, the clouds are more blue/parting and the sun is breaking through a tiny bit and lighting up all the orange-y trees, so it's much nicer. Still what a lot of people would consider icky, but I love it!

Really glad you enjoyed this, it's an unusual one. She's a very talented writer. I haven't tried this one, but Holly Black can be very hit and miss and as it didn't impress either of you, I think I'll steer clear I haven't read anything in a couple of weeks. Whoops. I need to try get back into it, but nothing was taking my fancy. I've met my 100 books in 2015 goal already, so I'm not too pushed about how many more I read this year, I'm not going to force myself

I love Halloween but never end up doing much of anything for it. This year however, I am going to carve a pumpkin and put it in my bedroom window, because that window looks across at a bunch of student houses. But yeah, not getting dressed up or going to any parties.

What was the last text you got?

'lol' - from my mum, after I said to tell her neighbour who is going baking me a birthday cake that my gratitude is endless (I've had the cake before, it's incredible!) -
I saw The Martian. I really enjoyed it! It felt quite rushed to me, though maybe that's just because I've read the book, but it felt like none of the problems really had time to be problems before a solution was found. It was funny and pretty though, and I did enjoy it.

The Rest Of Us Just Live Here - Patrick Ness Synopsis: What if you aren’t the Chosen One? The one who’s supposed to fight the zombies, or the soul-eating ghosts, or whatever the heck this new thing is, with the blue lights and the death? What if you’re like Mikey? Who just wants to graduate and go to prom and maybe finally work up the courage to ask Henna out before someone goes and blows up the high school. Again. Because sometimes there are problems bigger than this week’s end of the world, and sometimes you just have to find the extraordinary in your ordinary life. Even if your best friend is worshiped by mountain lions. *** Review: This is the third of Patrick Ness's books that I've read, the other two being More Than This and A Monster Calls. As with More Than This, I really liked the concept, but was underwhelmed, if not outright disappointed by the execution. With his blatant love of Buffy The Vampire Slayer seeping into the novel, its difficult not to make comparisons, particularly the the actual episode of Buffy that followed the same concept. The thing about Buffy, however, is the viewer is actually invested in and understanding of the Chosen One and the Scoobies, whereas with Ness's novel, the few tidbits we do hear about the 'Indie Kids' are too sparse and generic to do anything except sit weirdly in contrast with a book that is otherwise just drama. It's kind of an eccentric book, with some hilariously funny moments, but the vast majority of it seems unaffected by the proximity of supernatural occurences and results in it feeling disjointed. The drama side could easily have held its own in a book without the contrast. I'm probably somewhat biased as I have previously failed to 'get' Ness's writing, but I'm just not sure what some people think is so exceptional about it. It was easy to read, as I say quite funny at times, and I liked some of the characters. There were a couple of moments where I saw an uncomfortable amount of myself in Mikey, and these were among the moments that are always present in Ness's books - where I really see the talent in his writing. I just wish I could see whatever else it is that I apparently miss in it. Rating: 3/5
