  1. I would like to, but I can't guarantee it will happen. I need to try line up some books, that'll help me get on track for joining in
  2. September was my worst reading month so far this year, only 7 books. Granted, I've been sick and on holiday, plus a few other things have been happening, so I guess I have an excuse? But I'm now only 3 books from 100 so that should give my mojo some motivation again.
  3. Yeah I like the orangey one too, I've never liked movie covers. I'm so excited to see the film though. It's finally out here today, and I'm sick. Boooo.
  4. Yikes Hayley that's horrendous Glad to hear it's not affecting Charlie too much. I got back from Brussels Monday night, felt run down, and basically slept until this morning. Didn't eat for about 46 hours. Feel woozy, wobbly, shivery and generally like all I want to do is sleep even more. I forced myself to go to the shop, which was really unpleasant, but now I have food and lemsip so hopefully I'll start feeling better.
  5. Superb show, I've been raving about it to anyone who will listen. I didn't figure out the plot point because I'm dumb, but you are supposed to figure it out, according to the makers of the show. There are plenty of other twists later on to make up for it.
  6. Bag of giant Milky Bar buttons
  7. Same, dying to see it. Loved the book!
  8. Wheeeee I'm so glad you loved The Lie Tree, I haven't read that one yet but it's good to know it's gonna be good when I get to it. Genuinely delighted you want to read more by her, I think she's wonderful. Also glad to hear Ayoade's book is good - I probably won't get to it for a while as I don't read a lot of non-fiction but I do love him!
  9. That's great Frankie! Glad it's working out for you. Also, those garbage books sound amazing!
  10. Im reading In A Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware. Its not incredibly well written but its intriguing and I'm enjoying it.
  11. As I said on Goodreads, delighted you enjoyed Dante & Aristotle, I grabbed it based purely on the interesting title and really enjoyed it. Great reviews
  12. Finished Normal by Graeme Cameron. Ehhhhhh. It was alright. That's two ehhhhh books in a row, so I gotta choose my next one carefully.
  13. Yep, I feel precisely that way at the moment about the guy I'm seeing and I'm trying not to be shallow (one of my more unfortunate attributes, even though I'm nothing to look at myself) - if the this guy was ridiculously hot I would be absolutely smitten. So I'm giving it a fair chance and seeing if a spark will develop. Also - L O L. Oh my god, how rude! I would have replied, 'not at all!'. That kind of happened to me with another guy I never met but chatted to online - he didn't talk to me for like a week, after some half-hearted convos, and then a week later when he messaged I was like, 'oh, hello. Wasn't really expecting to hear from you again'. And he said, 'I was too busy to chat.' I said, 'I don't really mind either way, I'm just surprised'. Never heard from him again hahaha
  14. Same. I don't really have any friends that are huge readers anyway, plenty of them know about the forum and how important it is to me, but they've never expressed interest in joining because they're simply not heavy readers. And that suits me just fine, because I think of this place as a little haven from the outside world
  15. Oooh I know nothing about this but I did read the Train short novel by the same author. Can't recall the exact title. Very strange but enjoyable. Will look forward to your thoughts on this one!
  16. I'm going to Brussels on Friday! And I have date two with a guy this week. Not gonna elaborate here coz I'd only be repeating myself, it's in my member thread The House At Noll Corner if anyone wants to find out more. Can't believe the weekend is gone already... back to work tomorrow yeesh.
  17. I feel so savvy now! I was chatting to the guy I met for quite a while before we met, and while I liked his personality I knew awkwardness/nerves would impact how we were around each other initially. He's still growing on me (!), I'm deliberately making myself be as casual as possible and not getting too caught up in it all.
  18. The date could have been so much worse, Frankie, and good for you for the (relatively!) positive attitude. I know precisely what you mean, I am the exact same, and even a friend of mine (male) said it to me a week or so ago when I was feeling a bit insecure about my weight before my date. He said I'm not fireworks, I'm a slow burner, but that I'm perfectly attractive once someone takes the time to get to know me. And I totally agree with that So I think you and I are kinda on the same page with our attitudes to ourselves... though I might not use the yeast infection analogy!
  19. Frankie, I find it so strange that in some countries unfurnished apartments are the norm! When renting in Ireland, it's extremely unusual for somewhere NOT to be furnished, and nobody really owns their own furniture (other than maybe the odd desk chair, set of shelves, lamps, small things) - until they get a place they actually own. I'd be screwed if I had to buy furniture for somewhere I was living. Good luck (again) with the date! Can't wait to hear how it goes!
  20. Yikes, that sounds painful. Shame you wasted so much time on it Hopefully the next thing you pick up will be better... or at least shorter if it's going to suck
  21. That book had one of the best twists I've ever read. But I had some issues with the end. Glad you enjoyed it, very good book
  22. Not at all, you had no reason to believe it wasn't totally suitable for young kids. I was seriously in bits, but I am a very sentimental person and I get very attached to memories and hate change. The idea of growing up is still one I struggle with at 27, so I guess that scene just really hit a nerve with me.
  23. I thought pretty much the same about it I was traumatized by that bit, I started crying in the cinema. Not of my friends seemed particularly bothered but it was the only bit that really got to me. Totally didn't see it coming.
  24. Watching World's Greatest Dad.
