  1. Think you're undervaluing yourself there, Anna, check your math
  2. I've heard of it, but it's not one I've gotten around to yet.
  3. Trying out Arrested Development on the recommendation of a friend. Pretty hilarious in parts.
  4. Yeah, they're incredibly flat. I never knew anyone like them when I was growing up, but I didn't grow up in Cork so maybe it's a Cork thing, I have no idea!
  5. Stick with it. After the actual event, about halfway through, I think the description of the aftermath is actually superb. It's almost stream-of-consciousness, repetition and disjointed thoughts, and covers the reactions of people on a personal, local and national scale. I also realised how clever it was to make the main character so unlikeable. It ramped my opinion of the book up from about 3.5 stars to 4.5 stars. Hope you enjoy the rest I finished the above, Asking For It, last night. Really enjoyed the second half. Nearly finished Beyond the Great Indoors, about to dive into that now with a nice cup of Lemsip. I also got Alive by Scott Sigler, for a bit of new dystopia, and will start that today along with The Enemy by Charlie Higson.
  6. It only officially released in Ireland two days ago.. seems to be here though. I read 138 pages of Asking For It yesterday, finishing it off. I also read approx 97 pages of Beyond the Great Indoors, though it's a Kindle copy so I'm not entirely sure as I'm basing it off approximate percentages!! About to settle down to finish the latter's last 20% off Thank you! And hehe, I was looking for a different one which turns out to be on page 1 of the emotes, but I missed it and used the worm instead! Edit: Just to update my progress for my own benefit without adding another post: 60 pages finished of BtGI, so that's 295 pages read and two books finished so far, woo!
  7. Yes, definitely don't stop recommending books, Kylie! While I didn't love it, I am glad I read it and I don't think it's something I would have picked up if it hadn't been for this thread!
  8. Thanks Virgina! Ha, no, because i I don't expect it it will be even more amazing if I get it. Plus, I'll freak myself out entirely about the interview if I put any kind of expectation on myself over it. Sousa - basically what I said. Where I'm from, Kerry, the people can be more blunt and occasionally a bit ignorant but they're honest and what you see is what you get. Cork people (city folk, I spose, versus country folk), can be more pretentious. Now, some of my best friends are Corkonions, but they still have a 'Cork is the best' attitude going on.
  9. HAH. HAH, I say. Ireland in general is friendly compared to other countries. Cork people will be friendly if you compliment their city, but that's because they think they're better than everyone else in the country. Cork is alright. Nothing to do here and it's full of Cork people, but otherwise it's alright (I'm not originally from here, in case you couldn't tell!)
  10. Thanks! hopefully. Awwww Just had a nap so I'm feeling temporarily brighter and for my first read-a-thon trick, I'm gonna tackle the last 30-40 pages of Asking For It.
  11. I am sick with a cold Met that woman today about the job she wants me to apply for, and she's really enthusiastic about me applying for the job. Heh. Hopefully she'll still be as enthusiastic when she sees my sporadic employment history
  12. I need to get started on my read-a-thon-ing! I am sick with a cold so it's the perfect excuse to wrap up in bed with some books
  13. Watched the season finale of Mr. Robot. What. A. Show.
  14. Work up courage to ask guy out for Friday night. Wake up Friday morning with raging cold.

  15. Glad you enjoyed that, it's on my TBR
  16. Sorry to hear you're stressed, Frankie. I finished it a couple of days ago. It was very clever and very funny in parts, but as I said previously to me it felt like a story being arbitrarily made up for the purpose of making a bunch of puns. Still, worth reading for the entertainment, because it really is very clever in parts, and I can understand why a lot of people like it.
  17. I've been reading Beyond The Great Indoors by Ingvar Ambjornsen, alongside Asking For It. It's one of those books, along with Creepy and Maud (which was very good), which I've wanted to read for ages but which was pretty expensive to buy on Amazon and unavailable on Book Depository. In the end, I went for Kindle editions of both, even though I already know 50 pages in that I'm gonna want a hard copy of Indoors because it's awesome.
  18. Welllllll... I wouldn't call them well-written. They're very flat. Although the main one is unsurprisingly a bit more complex after the thing.
  19. There's no way these people could be intended as likeable. They have no personalities (except one, who runs around trying to please the ones with no personalities), and all they care about is looking pretty and social success. The two most popular ones are constantly passive aggressive to each other. To be fair, I'm not reading it to like the characters, I'm reading it to see how O'Neill handles the fallout of what happens.
  20. I hope to take part, I don't have anything planned so far. Not sure what books I'll read yet, though. I have four on the go at the moment, so it will depend where I'm at with them.
  21. Thanks! Hope you enjoy it when you get to it, it's a very good read
  22. So glad you enjoyed it, Janet. It's a wonderful novel.
  23. Oh no! I had heard really good things... sugar I'll be really annoyed if it turns out to be bad now Asking For it.. 100 pages in I hate every single character, they're all dull, pointless, and in a couple of cases quite hateful people. So we'll see. Very glad to see that it in no way reflects the kind of people I knew (closely or vaguely) growing up in Ireland. Weightless... is incredibly dull. Everyone is described as being a human barbie and again I don't care about any of the characters. I've heard it takes a while to get going though, so we'll see.
  24. Did someone mention Ireland? Yes, two someones did!I looked these up... they sound daunting, particularly the first of the two Ireland ones, but I'm intrigued! Today I bought two books in Waterstones - Asking For It by Louise O'Neill and The Enemy by Charlie Higson. Currently reading Creepy and Maud which I bought on my tablet as hardcopies are nearly £20 on Amazon for some reason... Started another book called Weightless but it's really not roping me in at all. And I still need to finish The Phantom Tollbooth.
