I could do that too. it's a bit early but it'll get us all in the Halloween mood!
-
I'm looking forward to Pokemon Go but I wish the video was a little more representative of what it will actually be like.
-
I'll probaby be busy on Halloween itself too, because its (finally!) a weekend this year. We could do the weekend before, 23rd-25th? People are less likely to have Halloween plans then.
-
*rises hand for scary book read-a-thon* We could all swap suggestions too (of course, people could participate and read whatever they wanted, but that wouldn't stop a few of us doing the scary book theme if we wanted!)
-
Poor Kylie hehehe! Shame you didn't enjoy that one as much. I still haven't tried any of his yet, but I'll avoid that one I think!

Do Halloween Read-a-thons require scary books?
-
Well, they got the banned copy right at least, so it was that the 2006 edition has the wrong photo on the site. Will have to figure out the year of the cover I wanted and find it. It's even prettier in real life!!

Glad you're enjoying The Book Thief, it's a fab book
-
If I do get the same edition a second time, I'll hold a little giveaway for one of the copies, because there seems to be quite a few people interested. These are the covers I wanted: Basically the same, except one has 'Banned' across it - one for a reading copy, and the Banned one just because its cool (books are largely banned and extremely regulated in the novel.) Here is the one I got: Eventually I would also like to get the hardback, but it seems difficult to find: Fortunately that hasn't happened to me, but it would drive me nuts. There's a series I love called The Coldfire Trilogy, and I specifically bought an expensive set of editions from America that cost about three times as much as if I had just bought the standard editions on UK Amazon, because I adored the cover art and wanted it. (The other editions didn't go together very well, I thought).

Today I got two books in the post - although I didn't realise it was two until about an hour ago! One came through the letterbox this morning, a paperback copy of Fly By Night by Frances Hardinge (I had read it on my tablet) - though unfortunately it was the wrong edition. I ordered two copies, two different editions, and the one I received is neither. Oh well, it'll do as a reading copy, and hopefully when the other copy arrives it will be one of the other editions. Then, on my out the front door to the shop this evening, whatever look I gave down at the ground, I spotted another package leaning against the door. Twas my hardback copy of the sequel to Fly By Night - Twilight Robbery. Haven't read this one, so that's something to look forward to!

Tee hee hee thank you. Mini rant following... I ordered two copies of Fly By Night from the Book Depository - two different editions, with two different covers. First one arrived today, and it's neither - it's the unappealing edition I could have picked up in Waterstones and chose not to. Looking at the publication dates, I suspect that it's the image on Book Depository that's actually wrong, as both this copy and the site listing say its from 2006, so they might have thought they were sending the right one, but either way I'm not impressed. The other one I ordered does actually have a different year (2008) listed on it, so if I receive a second copy of the 2006 edition I will be extremely unhappy. On the upside, I guess this 2006 edition (its cover is seriously the b-movie CGI of book covers) does match the sequel's cover art, so I guess that's something. I know I probably sound really pernickity but really - you'd have thought a website dedicated entirely to selling books would at least have their stock images correct!!
-
But where did you find them?
-
Oooh where did the confetti and penguin come from?! They're not in the usual set are they? And thank you! I only noticed earlier today that I was on 9997, so I posted twice elsewhere and came here for the grand finale!
-
Thank you! Hey Ben, good to see you! I think you'd actually REALLY enjoy that book. I'm waiting on the sequel to arrive in the post, any day now...!

Wow, a whole week since I posted in here. Clearly, I am behind. An an aside THIS IS MY 10,000TH POST It's not really, I had 10,000 a couple of years back before something happened and I lost a couple thousand posts, but I've done it FOR THE SECOND TIME. I feel like a real long-term old-timer here now I've six book reviews to catch up on, so I'm gonna start on those this evening.

About to meet a friend for lunch and work a bit on my personal statement for this job I'm applying for. Trying to write a blurb selling myself as the ideal candidate when I have no experience whatsoever in the area is tricky. I really don't mind either way about this job, I'm starting to get quite panicky at night now thinking about it. If I get it, I'll give it a bash, if I don't, well, I won't be sorry because there are probably easier roles I could take on.

I've started reading a book I spotted on Goodreads called The Long Way To A Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers. The title and cover caught my eye. Got it for my tablet, and so far (100 pages in) I am absolutely loving it - even though its Sci-Fi! It's like a Sci-Fi tv show, in that it has a lot of different species and is pretty character driven, rather than focusing on the science aspects. It's quite visual. Surprised by how much I'm enjoying it!

Oooh look at this old topic! I'm on my work laptop at the moment, so I don't have a background (never bothered!) but I'll post my personal laptop's one later
-
Aww Claire, that's horrible I feel your pain, I'm forever burning my hands in a variety of inventive ways - it's a wonder they've any sensation or use left in them!
-
A Spotify playlist a friend sent me called "The Happy Hipster" - it's actually got a lot of really good music (that I've never heard before!)

Okay so today I read Alive by Scott Siegler, which was 368 pages, bringing my totals for this Read-A-Thon to: Books finished/read: 3 Pages read: 663 Not my best Read-a-Thon ever, but I'm still pretty happy with it.

A stabbing pain jolts me awake. Alive, Scott Siegler.

Ah You've Got Mail. Love that shop. And film. -
Oooh I've heard of the film Total Recall, but didn't know it was based on a short story. Might check out the story.

Started Alive by Scott Sigler last night. Really enjoying it so far, but its not particularly noteworthy or anything.
