  1. Same idea and writing format, but not the same author. Actually I just checked them out and they are so similar that I thought "The Lion and and the mouse" was one of La Fontaine's but it turns out it's one of Aesop.
  2. mmm Probably not. Actually I think this has inspired me to re-read them... They're the kind of classics that we've read and re-read for school (and learnt by heart in some cases as they made very good poetry learning material) so I'm sure I would enjoy them more/ differently now.
  3. Same here. The thing is they are a pain to make so most of the time we dont bother.
  4. I don't have particular books I take with me everywhere, though I have loads I wouldn't want to lose. When I go somewhere I always take a few books, the number depending of how long I'll be gone. And as I live in two places at the moment I have part of my books in each... My room wouldn't feel right without a proper bookcase
  5. Very nice BookBee! My current favourite is this one. It's after one of La Fontaine's fables "The crow and the fox" (are those known in other countries than france? They are absolute classics for us) and I find it really cute
  6. Hi Beth! I forgot to ask how your last trip and meeting the in-laws went? Must have been interesting!

Oh and have you decided on what you'll be doing in Kerala?

  7. Holding the book and felling it's pages under my fingers is actually part of the reading experience for me... I think it would just feel weird to read free handed! And I'd be afraid of breaking the spine. But I agree it can be useful in some situations such as while eating or writing an essay.
  8. Hello and welcome Roy! How are you finding The audacity of hope? I just read Dreams from my father and enjoyed it a lot but I think they are quite different.
  9. My thoughts exactly!
  10. I never payed much attention to what I used as bookmarks before, but I think I've caught the bog thanks to this thread *laughs*
  11. You're lucky that I have no nutella and biscuits to test it with!
  12. So books really do have a distinctive smell? Even new books? Random paperbacks ?? I have hardly any sense of smell so wouldn't notice anyway but I always thought it was some sort of exageration, a 'poetic' way of saying you enjoy books... I just can't fathom an object such as a book having a proper smell *laughs* I feel like I'm missing out on something now
  13. Of course! Why keep them otherwise?
  14. So you just HAD to share this delicious but awful invention with us, right?
  15. Oh ok then, must be me not really caught up in this season... there have been so many breaks and twists and turns that I find it really confusing and inconsistent. But it's probably because I watched the 4 previous seasons in a row, over a few weeks (I discovered it last summer) so was really immersed into them. It's not the same to have an installment every few weeks.
  16. You did? How did you guess that one? I got the feeling it was a last minute decision from the script writers but apparently not. Well done!
  17. Hi Phoebe, and welcome! How are you finding the forum?

  18. Thanks!
  19. Good luck!
  20. Yeah, that's what I thought as well. Plus random books might be a big disapointment... What about you? Will you be trying to overcome that block on your latest read? I hope you'll find your mojo soon!
  21. Was that coment before or after my edit Ben? Ok, I'll see what sounds good tomorrow!
  22. Definitely! *laughs* Actually I dont think there's any point looking for logic or continuity in this season... It's just one big pack of confusing twists and turns. I'm very disapointed with it.
