I too would like to read the next book in the series (sooner, rather than later as I have mostly forgotten where the last one left off now!) but I would far rather Martin write the book he wants too in his own time than push one out quickly just because his series has suddenly become popular (after all, this is something he has been writing since 1996). With regard to cost, you don't have to buy these new books, but if £12 is the hardback price - I've not checked - that seems pretty reasonable to me (having just paid £17 for one!).

1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die - challenge
Raven replied to frankie's topic in Reading Challenges
To my mind, this is just a big list of books, and nothing more. The Murakami books listed - for example - are good, but they are not his best (in my opinion) and as much as I like John Wyndham, Chocky shouldn't be anywhere near the list (The Chrysalids is a much better, more thought provoking story, should another Wyndham book be required after Triffids and Midwich - and given he already has two books on the list how about featuring someone else?). -
Well, 15th as it turned out, but 16th for me... And I managed to pick up a signed copy as well - Hurrah! I know what I'll be doing for most of the weekend!

How many books have you read this year?
Raven replied to aromaannie's topic in General Book Discussions
Up to 25 now; one more to equal my record of 26. With Lies Sleeping out now, that shouldn't be an issue! -
Actually, I'm not 100% sure that is a complete fix, but it does seem to have reduced the number of ads I'm seeing.
-
I'm seeing that as well. If people are seeing ads in the middle of threads, log out and in again. I think some of the changes Hayley made earlier in the thread might only apply if you do that (it seems to have worked for me so far!).

I quite enjoyed re-reading them, but I don't know about what comes next. I looked up the next book online (True Confessions of) and it looks to be half a book about Adrian, and then the other half is split between the diaries of Sue Townsend and Margaret Thatcher! After that, I think the series is exclusively about Adrian, but if you want to read the lot, there seem to be several different compilations you can read. See Wikipedia for more details! Personally, I'm going to wait until I see the books pop up cheap on Kindle or if I see them second-hand.

Well, it was only a matter of time before your collection moved beyond a library...

At this point I'm so confused I don't know which way is up... The adverts today are for Cylon baseships, so I guess they are finding my level.

Just saw an add for a 'verified single females' dating site. Not sure if I'm supposed to be a punter or an advertiser...

After picking up numerous books over the last few years for 99p on my Kindle, I have decided that it is time to actually read some! To that end, over the last few weeks, I have read the freaky The Three, by Sarah Lotz; the excellent The Big Sleep, by Raymond Chandler and the nostalgic The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, Aged 13¾, by Sue Townsend. When reading it as a teenager, I never realised how much of a dick Adrian Mole actually is! It is a very good story, however, and the volume I am reading is a two-parter with Growing Pains, which so far is a much better book. I'm starting to think I should read the later volumes - at some point - as well.

You Australians have to win everything, don't you? In an unrelated matter, have you been enjoying the cricket? -

I think Michelle should be the one to post here last, just before she turns off the lights. -
Thanks, and you too! I don't think I will be heading on to anywhere else, the other forums I've seen either seem to be winding down themselves, or just don't appeal. Annoying, because I've actually been reading more than usual this year!
-
Cheers! (to both of you!).

I didn't think I was going to get to post this, but I joined the forum 10 years ago today!

Missed this: Fforde stole it from me. Well, they do say the best things in life are free... (although in your case, I suspect that when you are sitting in your library, amongst all your books, that probably gets subverted to "The best things in life are dead trees." I'm not on Facebook, and no amount of money could convince me to join! (may be open to tests of my resolve if anyone has a million or two they aren't doing anything with, however...). So to everyone here who has made the place interesting and fun - and what the hell, as we're closing down - to all those who have been tedious and dull*, I guess this is goodbye. So, goodbye! *There weren't many of them and they didn't tend to stick around for long!

Perils of The Modern Reader #57 After a rather hectic couple of weeks I'm having a quiet weekend, so after finishing Redshirts, by John Scalzi, this morning I started reading Three, by Sarah Lotz this evening. Because the battery was flat on my Kindle, I had to resort to reading it on my phone when having a bath. What I have read of it so far is building nicely, but it is a little tense. What you don't want to happen when you are reading a tense book, on your phone, in a quiet house, when in the bath, is to get a Twitter like that causes your phone to vibrate in your hand. All I can say is I'm glad I was holding the case firmly, or a lot of swearing would have ensued...

I've got all my stuff off. Not sure there's anything I need to save on here though...
