  1. The first science fiction book I read myself was probably the novelisation of Return of the Jedi when I was 12. I didn't really start reading regularly until I was 16 though, and when I did it was mainly Star Trek novels, until I went to University and read The Day of the Triffids, The War of the Worlds and then Consider Phlebas, by Iain M. Banks in fairly quick succession. Never looked back from there really!
  2. The new BBC version is going to be two feature length episodes (so that's probably 2 x 90 minutes, which would make it the same length as the 80's version). If you want to see the 80's version, which still holds up very well, and you can get it quite cheaply from the likes of Play.com and Amazon these days. And do try War of the Worlds, it's a very good novel, waaaay better than The Time Machine!
  3. BBC Announces Being Human Special.
  4. I would heartily recommend the series, it is very good indeed. Pish, who needs Daniel Jackson when you could have Rodney McKay?!
  5. They aren't bad, I have three or four volumes and they are very similar to the show, but they aren't easy to come by in the shops (I've only ever seem them in Boarders (I think) and The Forbidden Planet in London). You can probably get them online easily enough though!
  6. It's basically three or four short stories illustrated by different artists, some were good some were not so good, but it's worth a read if you like Star Trek. I've also recently seen some test footage from a Manga version of Doctor Who someone is doing, with the Third (Pertwee) Doctor, it looks very good, I'll see if I can find the link.
  7. Sadly, he was killed shortly after making that film, as I recall.
  8. I've got some manga books, but they are mainly based on well known franchise such as Star Trek, World of Warcraft and Cowboy Bebop. The Star Trek book I have is pretty good, but I've never seen any of the follow ups in the shops. As I've said on my reading blog the Warcraft ones were pretty dull - good artwork, but a poor story. I have quite a few Manga films, but I don't know a huge amount about the genre.
  9. This may sound silly, but you aren't opening Word by inadvertently opening your saved document again, are you? Unless Word has crashed badly, and its document recover system has been activated, you shouldn't be seeing a previous piece of work every time you open it (and even then, you should only see it as file to open within the program, it shouldn't automatically open the document for you). If you are using a desktop shortcut to open Word, try opening it from the Start menu, if it opens as it should, just create a new shortcut and delete the old one.
  10. No, no she's not. She's a talentless stick-insect of death, replete with bad fashion and make-up choices, and she should never blight our screens again.
  11. Claudia Winkleman wears too much eye make up, she's not at all attractive.
  12. I'm the only one who read the title of the thread and though New Information Technology movie, aren't I?
  13. I did mean post Guards! Guards! but yes, there are dragons in some of his earlier books.
  14. Be careful where you fondle books, Waterstones employ security guards just for the likes of people like you . . .
  15. Dragons don't feature very heavily in the Discworld books, in fact - barring references to the ones Sybil keeps in later books - I think Guards! Guards! may be about it for them. Not sure, can anyone else remember a story with dragons?
  16. Pff, she's still got her jeans on, that picture is totally stagged . . . (well done!).
  17. I think I read the introduction to the Penguin Classics imprint of The War of the Worlds, but as a general rule - if I haven't read a book before - I would skip the intro and then go back and read it afterwards (I prefer to read books without someone elses opinions rolling around in my head!).
  18. So, by rights, he should have a Spanish accent!
  19. I think I know what you mean, but I don't think it was hugely different from his accent in Sharpe.
  20. Another one, he was American! He was from Chipawa Falls or something! (you're quite right about his having to drown though!).
  21. I thought Connery's character in Highlander was Spanish? (with a Scottish accent of course!).
  22. Any film where Sean Connery is playing someone that isn't Scottish (The Hunt for Red October being the most amusing!). And you've also got Philip Glenister's terrible American accent in the recent ITV series Demons - what was he thinking?!
  23. Thank you! I've not read A Wild Sheep Chase yet, I'm trying to ration myself to a Murakami every few months so I don't read the lot - and risk getting tired of him - in one hit! Not sure what is next on my Murakami list, but it will probably be either Norwegian Wood, or A Wild Sheep Chase (I really want to read Dance, Dance, Dance, but someone on here recommended I read A Wild Sheep Chase first as they follow on from each other).
