  1. Someone recommended Die Trying to me a few years back so I thought I would give it a go, but I didn't make it past the first three chapters because it was so gung-ho and clich
  2. Anyone watching this year? Very pleased that Glynn Purnell took the honours over Daniel Clifford, who to my mind has been a complete arse all week!
  3. Thief! (and yes with the Firefly buying, do it now!).
  4. I generally don't pay much attention to reviews, but in this case lexie is the first person I've heard say they like it! I'll make up my own mind, but I'm not overly optomistic.
  5. Dollhouse has been getting very poor reviews on both sides of the pond, as far as I can make out.
  6. It's true that a lot of Buffy is superficial candy-floss, but Joss Whedon is a very clever chap. The episode I would say that stands head and shoulders above a lot of Star Trek - and is still one of the most painful pieces of television I have ever watched - was the one where Buffy finds her mother dead on the sofa. There's nothing supernatural, no vampires or ghosts, she dies of heart failure (if I remember correctly) and it's an utterly heartbreaking piece of drama. Good though it is, Trek has never really captured that kind of emotional intensity.
  7. I've only seen the first few episodes of the first series, but I would like to see more. What I have seen was good, although I don't think it had really got into its stride when I last saw it.
  8. Well, as you asked! They are both [TNG and SG-1] good shows, but they are both very "safe" TV. I've recently re-watched TNG on DVD and although it has some very good episodes, it has dated horribly - worse than the original series in some respects - and the overwhelming feeling I have looking back at it now, despite some very, very good stories, is that it is just too bland - they are all just far too nice! And Stargate, in either flavour, has never been anything more than switch-off and watch TV. Don
  9. So you like your TV sci-fi to be bland and uninspired then?! Where to begin . . . I've been interested in sci-fi since my parents took the wide-eyed six-year-old me to see a film called Star Wars waaaaaaaaaay back in '77 - and it's been downhill since then really. My favourite shows are Doctor Who and Star Trek (most flavours of, though I prefer Deep Space Nine, TNG and the original series to Voyager and Enterprise). I used to write for various Star Trek RPGs in the early noughties, where I had a lot of fun subverting plots and going against type! Sadly they've pretty much folded now, though I am looking forward to the new film in May . . . I also like Stargate SG-1, though I prefer Atlantis - or at least early Atlantis - because I prefer the cast in that. I would have to say the stand-out series of the last few years have been Firefly, the new version of Galactica and Heroes. I'll watch pretty much anything in the sci-fi genre though, I really liked Farscape when it was on, Buffy and Angel too (though I still need to watch the last two series of the Angel) and The X-Files.
  10. Spoiler tags people, please . . . Problematic Daemons: An Elephant: This would mean having to live your life in a big shed or outdoors, you'd be forever cleaning up behind it and you'd also have problems every time you encounter someone whose daemon is a mouse . . . A Barn Owl: Sure, they might look cool, but do you really want to spend your life working nights?! (and again, there's another mouse problem . . .). A Goldfish: Carrying that bowl is going to get old real fast . . . (no mouse problem with this choice though).
  11. You can't be hoping for more banality and mediocrity, surely?! Raise the bar a little, shoot for bland!
  12. The ITV one, Robin of Sherwood, runs rings around Robin Hoody. It's dated a bit now, but it's still very good, and has quite an impressive cast to boot. Check it out if you get the chance!
  13. ITV killed off Robin, the Beeb have done the next best thing . . .
  14. Going back on-topic, if people haven't seen it it's probably best to start at the beginning, I'm not sure tomorrow night's episode will be a good starting point!
  15. So . . . Do you come here often?! (and what is it with these youngsters and all this Twighlight rubbish?!).
  16. Why of course, it's the show who's success they are all trying to emulate after all! (Easter Saturday folks, Planet of the Dead!).
  17. 18 years . . . (Is there any way to make this text smaller?!). Robin Day, Sir Robin (When danger reared it
  18. They are, Boy Hoody starts at 6.50, Primeval, as I said above, starts at 7.20. I like Merlin as well, but all three are but pretenders to the crown.
  19. But it's outrageously OTT dinosaurs eating people, what's not to like?! Go buy the DVDs now, it's a hoot!
  20. Ah, I remember when I was 21 . . . Actually, now I stop to think about it, I'm not sure I do . . .
  21. Is your boyfriend 12 as well? *Runs away, terribly fast*
  22. 7.20pm tomorrow night, ITV1 - it's better than watching men in tights!
  23. I've been reading about Titanic since I was a kid, and I have to say the film got a lot of it right - it also got a lot of things wrong as well, but some of the sequences during the sinking are as close as I think we will come to knowing what it was like to have been there. Also, the film looses a lot on the small screen, it worked a lot better in the cinema. A Night to Remember is the best Titanic film though.
  24. Or how far up his own bottom Tarantino is . . .
  25. Don't worry, I'm only teasing! And come on folks, I expected a groan at least - Boy Lit - hot young men?!!
