  1. In a recent poll it has been found that six out of seven dwarves aren't Happy.
  2. I'd like to see some of Iain M. Banks Culture novels turned into films, as they've always had a cinematic feel to them, to my mind, but I suspect they would lose a lot in the translation. Also, I'd like to see more good adaptations of John Wyndham novels (if they are like Triffids was at Christmas though, you can forget it!). A period adaptation of War of the Worlds wouldn't go amiss, either.
  3. We have a shop in Chichester called Montezuma's that sells some very nice chocolate indeed. They do a lot of speciality chocolate bars, with chilli in them etc, but they also do big bags of plain, milk and white chocolate pennies that make Cadbury's Buttons look distinctly pathetic! Personally, I prefer their white and plain chocolate (I'm not a big fan of milk chocolate).
  4. I thought the Avengers film was already in motion, and that it has been confirmed that RDJ will be in it? Either way, I'm looking forward to Iron Man II, the first film was pretty darn good and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. Is Percy Jackson a Harry Potter knock-off?
  5. Some of the one star reviews can be unintentionally hilarious, especially if the reveiwer gets ranty!
  6. Sakurajima Volcano with Lightning - very impressive!
  7. Norwegian Wood is next on my Murakami list (by dint of my already owning it!).
  8. I was commenting on Echo's post, not yours!
  9. Why, people like that shouldn't be allowed to own books! *Shakes fist at the sky!*
  10. No, not a wildlife documentary about sun-drenched atolls and exotically coloured birds, this is the Tom Hanks/Steven Spielberg follow up to Band of Brothers, and This is due to show next month on HBO in the US, and at Easter in the UK on Sky. If it is half as good as its predecessor, it should be the TV event of the year (after series 5 of Doctor Who, that is!).
  11. I've re-watched the whole series over the past year or so, it really does hold up very well, certainly a lot better than The Next Generation. I don't have access to Sky, and I don't download stuff from the net, so I'm waiting for the DVDs (and then for the DVDs to drop to a reasonable price!).
  12. There's nowt wrong with a bit of the Benedict! I'm currently finishing up the last season of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, only seven episodes left to go . . .
  13. Whatever takes my fancy from the various piles of books I have lying around my flat! It is very rare I go to the bookshop to buy something specifically to read straight away.
  14. Thanks for that! No kidding! (If you've read my review, linked to above, you'll already know my thoughts on that though!). One of the [many] things I didn't like about the book was its lack of depth. You say "Its an intriguing world, and one that Canavan paints rather well," but I found the back drop to be very superficial and lacking in any real detail. There are descriptions of the city (and a handy map to help get things straight in your head), but past that there is little or no mythology. I would have preferred a little more meat on the bone, as it were.
  15. This is true to a point, but I believe you are more likely to have a haze or high cloud in the summer, that you don't get in the winter. I'm sure they mentioned something about it on The Sky at Night a month or so ago. Night Launch of the Space Shuttle Endeavour. I wouldn't like to have been holding that camera!
  16. I wondered that as well, but looking at the pictures it seems to be a very steep flight, I'm gussing that it's possible to reach them standing on the lower or middle steps.
  17. I've not set foot in my local library in over a decade. As others have said, if I read a book I don't like to give it back!
  18. Dear X, I don't have golden eyes, but my appendix has just burst and I figured 50% there is going to be closer than most of the replies you will get . . . Alternatively: Dear X, As a long time resident of the village of Midwich . . .
  19. You might be interested in "Titanic" Survivor: The Memoirs of Violet Jessop, Stewardess as well, she not only survived the sinking of the Titanic, but also the Titanic's sister ship Britannic as well.
  20. I think I can honestly say I've never contemplated hugging Data! The above reminds me of a personal ad I once saw, where the woman in question was asking to meet a Data lookalike (not Brent Spiner, but Data). Yellow skin and gold eyes obviously ring someone
  21. I thought that sounded familiar.
  22. Yeah, I had a few spinny head moments, but that may have been the wine . . .
  23. I may be wrong about this, but I believe this is the best time of year to go looking at the stars; partly because of the longer nights, but mainly because the colder nights mean clearer skies.
  24. A Sun Halo Over Cambodia. That's pretty amazing!
