  1. Really, I would expect someone with CDO to read the classics in Alphabetical order! :thud:Now there's a challenge! Seriously, though, best of luck with that! Definately know that's one challenge I wouldn't be up for!
  2. Now why would anyone think you were a loser? 1000 is a lot of posts!

  3. Well, I did have the money, it just didn't help that the money was in my wallet ~ at work, lol!
  4. Whoops indeed! Had to send the pizza back. Probably means they'll never deliver to us again, though.
  5. I see you've made it past the 1000 post mark! Congratulations!

  6. How stupid do I feel? We decided on pizza, I placed the order & when it arrived went to get my wallet (or purse to you brits) only to find it missing! Panic stations! Turns out I've forgotten it at work...............and my OH's bank card is in it, so we have no way to pay for the pizza!
  7. Too tired to cook, can't decide between Chinese or pizza!
  8. Excellent review, Beth. I haven't read the book but I have read a couple others that do exactly what you described & you've described pretty much how I felt about them!
  9. I definately agree with the idea that timing is an issue. I suspect that my not enjoying The Book Thief is a timing issue, maybe I should just put it away until it really feels important to read it. Beth - Memoires of a Geisha was brilliant! Have you seen the movie? The reason I ask is that compared to the book the movie was horrible, so if you have seen it, please don't judge the book by it! I do hope you get to the point where you get the urge to read it!
  10. It's funny because I thought Delores Clairborne was brilliant - not disturbing in the least. Disturbing, for me, are books like the one I read a few years back about a woman who's second husband abused her very young daughter - making her march around their mobile home's living room repeating the alphabet over & over & every time she made a mistake he would beat her. Eventually he killed her, starved her to death, then put her body in a sail bag, filled it with bricks & threw her overboard in the middle of a lake. That is disturbing! Michelle, you did make me smile with that comment! I read that story ages & ages ago & remember being so excited when I heard that there was going to be a movie made of it. I vividly remember dragging my best friend to the local theatre to see it when it finally came out, only to be so disappointed! I spent the whole movie laughing at what were supposed to be the scary bits &, to me at least, it was more a commedy than a horror flick! For me it was a definate case of the book being scarier than the movie, lol My friend, on the other hand, was so disturbed by it that she had nightmares for weeks! I think that's a really good idea, Beth. I haven't read anything that could fall into the horror disturbing category in a long time, but I used to love reading this type of book. My sister though, hates them but secretly enjoys reading the odd one & that's exactly what she does. Reads some of her horror novel, then about an hour before she goes to sleep she reads some chick-lit & that's how she copes with the horror books.
  11. Hi! Thanks for the friend invite! Welcome to the forum & happy reading!

  12. Ooooohh! I am vicariously excited! I tell you, I would love love love to be back in a job where I was moving around all the time again. Why oh why did I have to fall in love with a man who doesn't like to travel? lol! Happy choosing! Speak soon, xx

  13. Beth, I am sure that you will like it ~ I'd definately say that I must have been having an off day when I started reading this!
  14. Tonight we are having Chicken Korma on whole wheat pasta, served with petit pois and maybe some corn.
  15. Hello! Well, it's never been bad going, I'm just not hooked like so many others seem to be. Maybe I just have a thing against German authors? I've read 2 Bernhard Schlink books - 1 was ok, hated the other & now with The Book Thief, it's kinda like, meh, can't be bothered!

I will finish it, though & I really do hope that when I finish it I am able to say that I am really glad that I did!

How are you? How goes the prep for the move? When do you go?

  16. Are you kidding? I loved the book, I merely stumbled in the begining!
  17. Right, I started & finished my book for country # 66 at the weekend (Germany) & oh boy, I wish I had chosen a different book! I did not enjoy reading Homecoming (ok, I enjoyed the 1st part, but the rest was cr**!). (Review) Since I am now covering this challenge on 4 different websites, to save me time I am going to only say a bit about whether I liked each book I have read & if you want to read my reviews, they are on my blog & I shall provide links.
  18. I started & finished reading Bernhard Schlink's book Homecoming over the weekend. I had set it aside when I bought it to read as my choice for Germany for my Global Reading Challenge. Wow, what a mistake I made! I am so sure I could have found a better book by a German author! I give it a 4/10. (Review)

  20. No way! Funny you should say that because I swear I was going to say that they should make it into a movie!
  21. But what will you feed the children?

  22. I'm fine, thanks! You on messenger?
