    Hello and welcome!
  3. I'd like to read this but there are no copies in the local library and I'm not sure whether it's worth ordering online?

Hi ii! Just a tiny little question: What's La dame aux cam

  10. My humble bookshelf consists of following sections: - contemporary literature - (auto)biographies - classics - books from English literature courses - books from Swedish literature courses - Swedish books - favorite books from childhood/teenage - Anni Polva & Tuija Lehtinen (two Finnish "chick lit" writers) - chick lit - Jewish literature - Stephen King - Patricia Cornwell - crime/thriller - fantasy/sci-fi. Some sections may be very small but I still consider them sections because, well, they are their own type of literature and because that section may grow in the future. (For example, Jewish literature section consists only of three novels.)
  11. I know! Since my last post I've read: Kathy Reichs: Death Du Jour. I think this was so much better than Deja Dead (even though I liked that one too). I read it in Finnish so it was a faster read. The medical and forensic terms were giving me a hard time in Deja Dead so I made the wise choice to read Reichs in Finnish in the future I am quite eager to start Deadly Decisions next but I'm also really keen on Twilight. Hmph. Stephen King: Lisey's Story. This book took off really slowly but I knew that beforehand so was able to just enjoy the ride. Like in most of King's novels the characters and their history was detailed and rich which I like. Still, the main character managed to remain quite distant to me and she never grew on me. Her sister Amanda was far more interesting and human. I think this was an interesting read but not one of my favorite King books. Cormac McCarthy: No Country for Old Men. A bit too bloody for me.
  12. Now, if I were to say that your latest avatar reminds me of a mooncup, could I persuade you to choose the next one from some of your dog pics? Nope, the new avatar is quite safe :) I love the colours and it's really dreamy. I also like that picture in your signature, I actually prefer that one.

How was your weekend? I had a great one with BF, we made 8 pizzas (we sometimes go a little crazy with food) and watched movies and went to sauna. Next weekend I'm going to visit him. He actually got some great news this Monday, he gets to have his own little student appartment! No more awkward bumping into roommates! :tong: I'm so excited :smile2:

  13. Your message sent me giggling all over the place  Yeah I noticed you changed to lips before, and now that you say they might seem a bit pornish  BF is visiting this weekend and we're going to hit the town now and be active this weekend so I'll have to get back to you later! Have a nice weekend :D

    Hi

    Hello and welcome!
  16. Yes I would, even if I hadn't read any classics. I don't really see why not
  17. My list includes Sharyn McCrumb: Bimbos of the Death Sun Garth Stein: The Art of Racing in the Rain Sebastian Fitzek: Therapy John Grogan: Marley and Me Mark Haddon: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time I probably won't be getting any of these because my mother refuses to be Internet-literate and order these online from places where they are actually available (my parents live in a small town with no bookstores, just a very small, stupid and expensive selection of books in a food market). Also I think that my BF might not afford any of these, being student and all. I'll have to be my own Santa I think

    Hello All

    Hello and welcome!
  19. Hello and welcome!
  20. Hello and welcome That's a very cute avatar! frankie (another female with a masculine nick )
  21. I just finished Lisey's Story too, and noticed the reference to Savages. What's more, I had just read Alan Bennett's The Uncommon Reader in which the Queen was also reading the book. Having read this thread Savages made its way to my TBR. Thanks!
  22. Picking out new avatars IS hard! I don't do forums that much so I hadn't had the trouble of choosing an avatar before I joined BCF. I almost gave up doing it at all but then realised people sometimes remember avatars better than nicks, or they at least help remembering nicks, so having one is really worth it. I haven't once changed mine after joining though, I'm so lazy :)

  23. I understood the question a bit differently but I'm not sure whether I got it right either. What are the elements in the book that make it American, what "stereotypical" American elements there are to make it an American text? Was that it?
  24. This sounded such an interesting read that I had to order it online because there were no copies in the library. Can't wait to read it!
  25. I just discovered play.com which is even cheaper than my usual favorite site adlibris.com (only for Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark). The only downside is that it might cost me more cause now I'll be able to order book more frequently. I have to try to keep myself in check. I do love free shipping though...
