  1. That's alright Michelle, I probably took it a little bit too personally anyway I'm always a bit defensive when it comes to BB because there are always people who want to take the mickey out of those who watch it.
  2. Just watched episode 4, and this was the first episode I really enjoyed! Watching the talent show was fun, especially seeing LaToya performing.
  3. One more thing that I just couldn't pass without saying something: Maybe I took this the wrong way, but that felt a bit patronizing to me. Just because I do not agree on the sympathy vote, I do analyse BB as I watch it. I'm no more wrong in not realising the sympathy vote than you are right in realising it. No offence.
  4. Ivyleaf, eventhough I disagree with you on the sympathy vote, I am glad that you voiced your opinion. Different kinds of points-of-view are always welcome! And I do agree with you on BB wanting to provoke situations by putting representatives of minorities to deal with the majority. There's nothing more characteristic to BB than expecting hot girls to hook-up with hot boys! But, IMHO, one doesn't have to vote for Verne or feel any pressure to do so. If one likes, let's say, Mutya better, then one may go for that. There's also no reason NOT to vote for Verne if one just happens to like him the best. Yes, I understand what you mean by sympathy vote, I just don't believe that one has to have anything to do with it. Just vote for who you like the best or who you think deserves to win - there's nothing more to it.
  5. He will only get the sympathy vote if people (that's us!) vote for him out of sympathy. So there is a choice you know
  6. Helloooo, and welcome!

    Hobbies

Looking for dead people might actually be some kind of voluntary work you do with your dog that's got great sense of smell. Although I think it would be preferred to be called looking for missing people.
  10. Nope, I got that Russell bloke wrong! No wonder I haven't seem him around, it's really shameful how little I watch British programs anymore. "he has described himself as resembling "an S&M Willy Wonka"". Haaahaaa! =D

  11. Yep I did a little wikipedia on Tess Gerritsen and found out about the Rizolli/Isles-series. And I'm lucky I got The Surgeon because it starts the whole series. I'm also really keen on the Body Double, somebody somewhere a few years ago raved about it and I already wanted to read it back then. Have you read any of the stand alone medical thrillers? I'm not sure if they're really my cup of tea, the jargon might be a bit difficult (at least if I read in English) and I really don't do hospitals?

Yep I noticed you've been reading Booky Wook, I don't know that guy but he looks cute? Must be from the music industry then :) Oooh you've started Dexter! I'm definitely keeping my fingers crossed with that one! I'd so much like for you to enjoy it, and get your mojo back at the same time. Play.com seems to offer many Dexter books ;)

  12. I don't think there's any pressure to vote him to win, why should there be?

    Hi

Hello and welcome to the forum!
  14. Hello and welcome to the forum!
  15. I couldn't resist either. I've never watched celebrity bb before and had to give it a shot when I noticed that the new season has just begun. I recognised all the American celebs, and Mutya and Ulrika (though I don't know why) but didn't know any of the others. So far it's been a bit boring. It's also been a bit difficult to understand some of their conversations: so many different dialects! I love Tommy's, by the way! So far I like LaToya, Verne, Coolio, Terry and Tommy. Tina seems nice too.
  16. Well... Um... But the books cost me like 7,5 euros alltogether, I just couldn't leave them behind!! They would have been lonely and cried and haunted me for the rest of my life... And after I've gotten Breaking Dawn from play.com I promise I won't buy more books for at least ... two weeks?

Although... I just might get Montanari's The Rosary Girls and make you more jealous for reading him for the first time too... ;) But don't be mad, you have Dexter now!

I'm a bit confused about the Gerritsen books and their order. Aren't there at least two different series? (Like Cornwell has Scarpetta and the other series which I haven't read) I'll have to google it.

BTW, is your mojo still missing? I so hope you're cured by now! :friends0:

  19. Dancer in the Dark should win some kind of a trophy in this category, never have I cried so much during a movie. The tears came sometime before the middle of the movie and never stopped after that. There was snot involved too, it was that bad.
  20. Wow, that's a very impressive list, there's some great reads there and books that I want to read too! You're going to have a very good year

  23. After the last post I've read the following books: - Stephenie Meyer: New Moon 9/10 - D. H. Lawrence: Lady Chatterley's Lover 5/10 - Philip Roth: Portnoy's Complaint 7/10 - Gaetan Soucy: The Girl Who Was Too Fond of Matches 8/10 - Diana Wynne Jones: Fire and Hemlock 10/10 - Sarah Dunant: Birth Marks 9/10 - Terry Pratchett: Johnny and the Dead 9/10 - Kathy Reichs: Deadly Decisions 8/10 So I guess that's it for the year 2008. It was a very, very good year. Here's what I thought of 2008 readingwise (from the thread in generel discussion on books): "This year was superb for me! - I joined this forum (which increased my TBR) - I've found play.com These books stood out for me this year: - Alain de Botton: How Proust Can Change Your Life - Tuula-Liina Varis: Kilpikonna ja olkimarsalkka - Ronald Hayman: The Death and Life of Sylvia Plath - Joanne Harris: Gentlemen and Players - Diane Setterfield: The Thirteenth Tale - Sarah Waters: Fingersmith - Augusten Burroughs: Dry - Markus Zusak: The Book Thief - Augusten Burroughs: A Wolf at the Table - Mark Haddon: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time -John Grogan: Marley and Me - Stephenie Meyer's Twilight-series - Sarah Dunant (Hannah Wolfe -series) Writers I discovered: - Elizabeth Flock - Sarah Waters - Terry Pratchett - Neil Gaiman - Kathy Reichs Plus, I spent some good times with Sue Townsend's Adrian Mole diaries which I hadn't read in ages." Finally the statistics: - books read: 78 - books bought: at least 116 (wow, I never knew I bought so many... things definitely got out of control this year.
