  1. Wow, The Graveyard Book... 10/10? Now I really want to read it
  2. I would pick Lord of the Rings . Maybe I'd finally really get into it as there'd be nothing else to do or read.
  3. Aww, that's really cute!
  4. Dear Sidney, Susan Scott is a wonder. Mary Ann Shaffer & Annie Barrows - The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
  5. Finished The Trial by Franz Kafka. What a weird, and exhausting read. I liked the style of the writing, but I hated the endless paragraphs that seemed to drag on forever. I can wholeheartedly say that I'm done with Kafka.
  6. Practically all of the boys are smitten with Beverley so I wouldn't agree on this one.
  7. Goodreads.com account says my TBR is 362. It was 280 before I included the books that I want to read from 1001 Book You Must Read Before You Die .
  8. Hello and welcome to the forum!
  9. I was so disappointed to hear that Ulrika won. Can't believe it.
  10. KEBAB! I wish I could have fries with that
  11. Yeah he is! :D Labbies are my favorite dogs. Well one of my many favorite dogs, there are just too many great breeds :smile2:

  12. Hello LaineyW!

I noticed that you are quite new to the forum and I just thought I'd welcome you here, I hope you enjoy the forum! :) By the way, your avatar is sooo adorable:D

  13. Finally was able to finish William Golding's Lord of the Flies. I've tried reading this book a couple of times before and never managed further than 30 pages or so. This time I was determined to finish it and I did. For the first half of the book I found it really boring, then it started to pick up the pace. Then it became really distressing. Quite awful. I'm not saying that the book was badly written, it's more like the subject matter was so disturbing that it kind of made me hate the book.
  14. You have a lot of great reads ahead! (I haven't read The Historian of The Master and Margarita myself yet but I'm planning to at some point)
  15. No, no dogs for me unfortunately cause I'm allergic. This is just a random dog from the Internet but he is so cute:smile2:

  16. Well it might be true. Doesn't sound good anyway. I don't condone adultery, but I still feel like he picked a weird timing to come out with this. Just when she's in the house and doesn't have the chance to defend herself. Also, why would he talk about the reasons for their divorce? It's not like it's going to make things better...
  17. Just because it's in a magazine doesn't make it true. Not that I would know anything about it.
  18. I started reading The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald last night and I almost made it to then end when I drifted to sleep. Finished it just now. I think that this book was on my friend's literature course and I wondered why it wasn't in ours. Anyway, I liked it eventhough I couldn't really relate to any of the characters or even like them. To me they all seemed selfish, stubborn and miserable. Exept for Nick Carraway, but he was only along for the ride. I'm having problems deciding what to read next. On one hand I'd like to read something off the 1001 Books - and Rory's Books -lists, and on the other hand I feel like reading something light and something that I've been wanting to read for a long time. Don't know what that would be, though. Hmph!
  19. I'm not going to say 'Poor you!' because you might enjoy it. Remember to report what you thought about it
  20. It would be interesting to see if you'd still feel the same way about Tess And I've seen that some people on this forum have really enjoyed the book so there are positive opinions about Tess too. I've actually thought about reading the book again myself, just to see if I'd still feel as strongly about it and whether I have softened up and could try to understand her a bit more.
  21. Yep, Metamorphosis is unique that way. To me the surprising element was that The Trial is even weirder?? Oh shucks. Well I'm going to read it anyway. Very determined to do so.
  22. I can't blame you being bored, you've had, what, 10 seasons of Big Brother in the UK already? So it's an old concept to you. Finland just finished its 4th one so we are way behind.
  23. Hmph! Well okay then.:irked:

  24. That's just the kinda thing that could be in the book, so funny! You must've cracked! Thank you for the review It's such a great book.
  25. Yeah I figured that was the case with your hedgehog :)

Go on, buy a hedgehog! They're even easy to travel with. Then you could report if it was any good :)
