  1. Yesterday I wrote an e-mail to the local library, asking if they could get The Polysyllabic Spree by Nick Hornby, either in English or in Finnish (although there doesn't seem to be a Finnish translation yet). I got an e-mail from them today, asking me if I would like to read the book in English or in Finnish and that unfortunately the book won't be translated into Finnish this year. Talk about good customer service!! I wrote them back saying that I don't mind the English translation at all, but more people would benefit from the Finnish translation here in Joensuu. We'll see what happens. I'm thinking they'll order the English translation anyway, we have a pretty good selection of English titles in the library, for a town like Joensuu. What a marvellous library!
  2. This is a bit off-topic but I was at BF's who's a huge Bruce fan and I asked him if we've seen the Evil Dead movies and he said yes. I can't believe I can't remember them if I've seen them. We did watch the pilot to County Brisco Jr. and I have to say Bruce was quite the handsome guy back in the days...
  3. I'm glad you're enjoying Middlesex, it's a really excellent novel! That's a great idea Kylie, why didn't I think of that?? I was already checking out play.com and some other online bookstores but the prices were kinda high for that one. I'll ask the library if they'll get it. All the copies of Wicked were borrowed when I was at the library so I didn't get it yet. Thanks for you thoughs on The Professor, I think that's on my TBR or wishlist at least. I hope you enjoy Frankenstein! I'm going to spend the rest of the day reading TCPatW.
  4. I went to the library and left my read copy of Full Moon by P. G. Wodehouse in the free book trolley, and picked up Eric Knight's Lassie Come-Home in return Also borrowed Nick Hornby's A Long Way Down. I was utterly surprised and disappointed that there's no copy of The Polysyllabic Spree in the library
  5. I hope so too Although for some reason I do believe that I'll be enjoying this one enormously! What is the book of your choice this time, Chrissy? I read more of TCPatW. I'm starting to have feelings for the characters which is quite nice I'm about 300 pages into the book at the moment.
  6. I got The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky today in the mail, finally!
  7. Aww poor Nicola without mojo, we cannot have that! Good ole Charlaine Harris! Isn't she coming up with a new Sookie book in May, or am I wrong? BTW, how many times have you read the books by now I read more of TCPatW last night in bed (almost sprained my wrists!), am going to be travelling back to Joensuu today so will have 2,5 hours to read the book
  8. Another use for the word 'booty'! Soon I'll be able to write a whole dictionary about just that one word.... I wonder if there's a story about Lalli murdering Bishop Henrik in K
  9. Is there anyone who's watching Castle? The TV-series about the crime author Rick Castle, and detective Kate Beckett, whom Castle follows to the crime scenes in order to do research for his crime novels? This series aired last Wednesday here in Finland and I was really eager to watch it. I like crime TV and I like books and authors, so what's not to like The show was so good that BF and I've been watching it over the weekend, we're now on episode 8 or so. Can't remember the name of the male lead but I remember him from the TV series Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place (or something like that). I didn't think much of him then, but he's really charming in this show
  10. What? Really?? How can I have missed that! I thought I was such an expert I stand corrected! And no, I haven't ever heard of the Pirate's Booty snacks. They still sound naughty to me *is trying to get her mind off the gutter*
  11. Welcome to the forum!
  12. I definitely need to visit!
  13. Haha, that'll be the third book you'll be reading without having ever heard of it before! So nice to have you with us in the Rory Gilmore challenge
  14. Don't try to act all innocent Kylie, you've got 'guilty as charged' written all over your face I promise I'll be watching it soon Haha, when I was writing down 'New Moon' I was actually thinking of you peace and wondering what you'd say when you saw the list, and how much I would be reprimanded for that Over The Godfather? Wow! Okay book first, movie after that. And thanks for reminding me about Buffalo 66! Keep 'em coming!
  15. The order of the list is quite accidental and in no particular order, other than what came to mind first! But I guess you guys have been hyping that particular movie so much and for so long that it was the first I thought of Wow, it even won the Oscar? It's weird because I've never even heard of it. It must be good then Peace, should I read the book first or go for the movie? The list of movies that I've watched this year is not complete, btw, I just wrote down the movies that I remembered.
  16. You use booty call except that booty doesn't always mean booty? Hihiii I'm giggling! Naughty frankie! Nice to have learnt something new about the Aussie English TCPatW is progressing really slowly. I like the detailed characters but I wish the actual plot would pick up soon. I'm on page 170 or so and so far nothing has really happened.
  17. Am I correct in thinking that you also picked The Crimson Petal and the White purely because it was on the Rory Gilmore book challenge? That's already two books that you wouldn't have chosen on your own, but decided to read them because of BCF This is the best place isn't it, one gets so many great recommendations and one can "read outside the box". I'm really glad you liked Q&A, it was one of my favorite reads last year
  18. If they realised it they would do something about it, right? But I guess they might think that putting a normal woman in their adds might drive away the "better and fitter" clients. It can be tiring but it's really great cardio! And it's really a lot of fun as well, the instructors are smiling (not fake smiles!) and they seem really encouraging and there's ethnic music and nice dance moves which you can incorporate in your own dance moves on your night out in the town
  19. That's really nice of you but you needn't do that, the posting of the book to Finland will cost you a pretty penny! You'll get rid of it easier when you take it to a charityshop
  20. Okay, I've added two posts in page 2 of this thread: movies that I've watched this year and movies that I need to watch. Peace, I'm quite sure you have a long list of movies you've recommended to me, please let me know if I've forgotten to add any of those
  21. Hi Giulia, how are you? :)

I remember when we were discussing A. S. Byatt's Possession and whether you would enjoy reading it (me thinking that you really would, and you thinking you may want to buy it at some point). Have you had time to go check the book in the library and read the first couple of pages to see if you like it? I was checking out my unread posts and I noticed that Nollaig is reading the book at the moment, she mentioned it in the Historical Fiction -thread. If you're interested, you can talk to her about the book when she's finished it. So far she said she's LOVING the book :D

  22. Sounds like you had a blast, Kylie! It does feel exhausting at the time but afterwards it feels so great knowing you've done something good. And knowing you managed through the class and will be continuing to go there and feel that good It's funny how we always think that all the other participants are all really fit and have the perfect bodies and don't sweat and look beautiful and don't ever need a breather. Where do we get those illusions?? I blame advertising!! It's so nice to notice that all kinds of normal people go there and one blends in just like that.
  23. Like you said, it's nice to see the old stomping grounds, and I love visiting the local library where I practically grew up in (one of the librarians even remembered my last name when I was getting online registration for the online library thingie last year, she's been working there since we got the new library in before 1993). However, I don't have any old friends living there and should any of them move back to Nurmes, I would seriously question the person about whether they are right in their mind. So I only have my parents and Mum's sisters and their hubbies living there, plus a couple of cousins from my Mum's side. One of them had a baby last year and she just turned 1, what a cutie It's really nice to see new blood in the family. The age difference would be totally acceptable by now, definitely. You know, as much as I would like to see Marty and Willie together, it would take some of the magic away from Beautiful Girls if we knew now that they're together. Or at least, the new movie wouldn't be as magical as I'd hope because it's always the anticipation and uncertainty that really catches my eyes and heart. Not the time when it's a done deal and everybody's happy, if you know what I mean Too bad! I haven't seen Ordinary People but the synopsis sounded really depressing. I'll try to check it out anyway, and maybe see if there's a copy of the book in the library. You know, maybe I should add another post in the first page of this thread: movies that I've watched this year and movies to be watched. We're always talking movies in this thread! (which is not a bad thing at all) I wonder if Benny feels the same way these days! Peace, you should ask your BIL about that!
  24. Too bad about the not-so-successful weekend reading, Kylie I'm sure Jeeves will help you with your mojo though I'm sorry, but did you place a booty call? Oh the joys of different dialects. What is your understanding of the word booty? I read about 100 pages of The Crimson Petal and the White yesterday and I'm expecting to get quite a lot of reading done today as well.
  25. Hiya character and welcome to the forum!
