  1. I just came across your avatar and it brings 2 thoughts to mind, both of which I'm a fan. They are Moonlighting and The Clangers - I loved both programmes!

  2. My reading mojo has disappeared since Saturday and I'm not sure why - I'm enjoying the book I'm reading, but have been finding it difficult to concentrate. I thought I'd try an audio book when I'm travelling to and from work and I have been listening to Ken Follet's: Pillar of the Earth. I have actually been able to concentrate on that more and have really been getting into the story. I don't know how many hours I have yet to listen to though - probably about 38!
  3. What about keeping them in the shed but leaving the shed door unlocked then!
  4. Thank you for that - It's great to have somewhere to start as otherwise I wouldn't have a clue! I've added Cut to The Quick to my wishlist and I'll keep an eye out for it.
  5. I most certainly will - it's on my TBR pile! I look forward to it
  6. :bestw:Happy Birthday!

  7. Have a good birthday! :-)

  8. Redbush tea? - Rooibus (as drunk by Mma Ramotswe so I read even though I've not read the 1st book yet!) I saw some on the supermarket shelf yesterday and thought I'd try it as it's caffeine free. One minute I think I like it and the next I'm not so sure, but I'm going to persevere and see how it goes as I like a hot drink, but don't like to much caffeine and am not keen on anything decaf!
  9. Wecome to BCF! I don't believe I've read any, could you give me a recommendation? (preferably something not too heavy!)
  10. Happy Birthday! :5birthday:

  11. Hello and enjoy your time here! I think Paddington is great!
  12. Thank you Roland Butter! I am certainly on the market for light reading and quirky is most definitely up my street. I may just make it the next in my TBR to see what I think.
  13. I tend to stare at my TBR pile for a while and then think about what I've just read and then think if I want to read something in the same genre. I do try not to read the same author back to back. I then look at books by new authors, but most of the time if I only have 1 of their books I'll choose an author with more than 1 book. Oh dear do I think too much! About an hour later I might pick 1 up. Very rarely do I choose a book before I've finished the last.
  14. Yes that's a good idea too! I never have come across a lone book on my travels, but I would like to and I would most certainly befriend it!
  15. Hi there!
  16. Sorry to hear about Teazle Tiger.

  17. I have yet to enter the world of Stephanie Plum, but have one on my TBR - am I likely to be come addicted to them. What makes them so good/bad?
  18. This sounds an interesting read and I'll keep an eye out for it. Thank you for the review!
  19. The strength of Alice really shines through in this memoir. Alice Sebold, a student, was raped at 18 and when meeting her assailant on the streets a few month's later she has no hesitation but to report it to the police and prosecute. She hopes then that she can write a line under this event, but later having to deal with the loss of a friendship she realises life will not be so straightforward. Alice also had to deal with the fact that her mother suffered panic attacks through life and could not always be there physically to support her daughter, which must have been dreadfully hard for both of them. We also see how Alice deals with the relationships with the opposite sex, which held so many different feelings and thoughts for her. This account by Alice Sebold of her rape and the way she tries to cope shows a great inner strength, however also shows the devastating stress that she suffers from the event, which initially she does not give full credence to as she doesn't realise how much this has taken a hold of her. This memoir is warm, it's uplifting, and also so terribly sad. Alice tells this account in a very non dramatic and straightforward way, and yet is still so full of feeling. I'm not sure who to recommend this book to, as although I found it a gripping and emotional read, I do wonder if it would overwhelm some people and empower others, but I don't believe I'm here to judge. I give this a rating of: 10/10
  20. A very big and hope you enjoy your time here. That's one I have to read soon!
  21. I only read magazines at the doctor's surgery or the dentist. I did have a phase buying puzzle mags - mostly logic problems. Reading about celebs and the latest diet hold no interest for me!
  22. I have just finished this book and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it and only got it out of the library yesterday. It's unusual for me to read a book that quickly.
  23. Western books? - ie cowboy based. Would they be a male based genre generally? I'm sure I have seen them in libraries, but I've never picked one up or been tempted to. I did in my younger days enjoy watching westerns - John Wayne movies and the series Alias Smith & Jones starring Pete Duel were favourites.
