  1. I completely agree Karen. I have often noticed that an author's first book is the one I least enjoy - but I usually give authors at least two chances - unless the first book was absolutely awful.
  2. Well Thelxinoe what books did you decide on for Mother's Day?
  3. I think James really deserved to win, he was the best of the three.
  4. I have just started Water for Elephants today Madcow, it doesn't sound like my usual type of book but I am going to give it a try. Looking at the list of books you have gone through so far this year I'm guessing you will be finished it before me, so it will be good to hear what you think.
  5. Hello Emma, welcome to the forum, i hope you have fun here

  11. I think I might have had it roasted once - it feels like a long time ago! It's just one of those vegetables that seems a little intimidating - if you know what i mean!
  12. Hello, it took me a little while to find the introductions thread too!
  13. That sounds quite nice Pennan. We never seem to know what to do with butternut squash in our house!
  14. I hope you enjoy it as much the second time around! I thought it was a great show and so bought the book as a result, which I'm ashamed to say that I just could not get into and gave up after a few chapters
  15. Welcome Gelfling. I hope you enjoy it here
  16. I think it is still as good now with season 4. Personally I think season 2 did kinda go a little overboard and I started to lose interest, but I'm glad I kept watching because season 3 was really good and season 4 has started off very well too. Things have started to come together a little bit in season 4 - but we are only two episodes in, so I'm sure the writers have thrown in some other surprise twist somewhere which is just around the corner!
  17. Thanks for a great review Janet. I bought this book from Tesco the other day as you gave it such a good review, it was on two for

  19. Yes I am planning to read it at some point, I will probably wait until it comes out in standard paperback size then buy it. I have heard alot of good things about his second book, it is definatley on my 'to be read in the future' list!
  20. Have just finished The Kite Runner. I have to say that I throughly enjoyed it. It is not the type of book that I would ordinarily choose for myself, I only read it at my sister's insistence at how much I would enjoy it. She was right, I just couldn't put it down and have been reading it at every opportunity. I would like to watch the film version now to see how it compares. Does anybody know when it is due out on DVD?

  23. I am about half way through The Kite Runner and have to say I am really enjoying it. It is not the type of book I would usually choose for myself but my sister gave me her copy and I am very pleased she did. I find myself thinking about Amir and Hassan at random points during the day - I think that is the effect a really good book has on me, that I just can't stop thinking about it
