  1. Only 2 more weeks until the new season begins.  Things look promising after St Austell's three friendlies so far:  5-2, 5-0 and 5-0.  We somehow seem to have found ourselves as title favourites - I'm scared! :o

  2. We finished our season with a fantastic 7-1 home win.  To be fair our opponents struggled to put together a side of 11 players who were willing to travel all the way here from North Devon on a grim Friday evening with torrential rain.  The whole Liverton team played with  smiles on their faces and never gave up, scoring a spectacular consolation goal in the last minute. Some funky robotic dancing from their number 7 at half time as well!  The home crowd gave them a standing ovation as they walked off the field, so a great (but wet) evening was had by all!

We seem to have been officially installed as title favourites for next season.  I think people are jumping the gun, but it's a nice feeling.

  3. Well done to West Cornwall U13s who beat Liverpool U13s yesterday to win the U13s National Championship!  It was especially impressive as I understand that their opponents had a few players who were signed to the academies at Liverpool, Everton and Crewe Alexandra, so they may be seen in the Premier League one day!

  4. Manchester United must be kicking themselves.  They only accepted Alex Ferguson's resignation because they thought they could get the mighty Dan Nancarrow for next season.  Unfortunately for them 'The Cornish Mourinho' has agreed to stay on at Poltair Park and take the giants of St Austell to the title in 12 months time! :D

  5. We managed an away draw today and our 2 rivals both won, which confirms a 4th place finish!  We're comfortably top of the form table after 10 wins and 2 draws in our last 12 games.  Shame to miss out on 2nd & promotion, but a nice win in our last match next Friday will finish off a fantastic season!

  6. The outcome in the South West Peninsula League will be a lot clearer at 4:45 this afternoon.  With 2 games left we're one of 3 sides still pushing for 2nd and possible promotion.  The odds are against us, but 3rd is still very realistic.

  7. Well done to Glendale!  If they can just get the middle third of the season sorted, could they be looking at trophies next season?  Never underestimate the power of positive thinking!

Sounds like a brutal week Richard - hope the players are OK.

  8. When your club is in the doldrums, sometimes a league restructure can do wonders.  It happened to us 5 years ago - we were consistently bottom of the old league, but we were then able to rebuild.

Tonight I'm going to be a Torpoint Athletic fan - if they draw or win against Launceston (in 5th place), we've got our top 4 finish!

Update - a great 2-1 win for Torpoint confirms at least a 4th placed finish for us.  Now we can focus on chasing 3rd!

  9. Give Andy a high-five from me!

A sunny but cold afternoon saw us play some of our worst football of the year in the first half and we were lucky to only be 1-0 down at half time.  Fortunately normal service was resumed in the second half and we ran out 4-1 winners.  One more point will confirm a top 4 finish, but we have a game in hand over the teams in 2nd and 3rd AND they both have to play the champions this week.  Our remaining games are against 3 teams in the bottom half of the table, one of which has just lost their manager and all of the 1st team players!  4th place is probable, but dare I risk disappointment by dreaming of 2nd?

  10. A quality performance saw us beat our local rivals 4-0 tonight.  It was a real party atmosphere.   I think we'll have to mess up really badly to throw away 4th place now!

  11. Good call emelee!  I think Bayern's name will be on the cup this year.

Mixed results for St Austell tonight (even though we didn't play!).  The league title was won by Bodmin Town with 4 games left.  Then 3rd placed Elburton Villa beat 2nd placed Plymouth Parkway to close the gap to a point between them.  Unfortunately that pretty much puts us out of the running for 3rd, but one of our rivals for 4th lost tonight, so victory for us tomorrow will pretty much guarantee a top 4 finish!

This is more intriguing than the Premier League any day!

  12. We had a pretty nice afternoon yesterday.  The sun was shining and we managed a very comfortable 3-0 win against one of the nicest sides we've met this season.  Two free kicks were awarded through the entire match and our opponents played in the right spirit to the end.  Next up we've got our local rivals on Wednesday evening - maybe this won't be quite as friendly?

  13. Sound like this guy has lost his enjoyment of the game and maybe it's best if he walks away for a while.  A poor run of results can be disheartening, but that's how young players like this learn the game.  A lot of our very top players have come through some pretty poor sides.  It's all about having the right coaching through the tough times and it sounds to me like Andy has just the right approach.

The league leaders down here managed a win last night to finally put paid to our distant championship dreams, but if we concentrate on digging into 4th spot, maybe 3rd or even 2nd place could get closer!  We're at home to a team in the bottom 4 this afternoon though, and those are the games which cause us to slip up.  Hopefully we'll carry on from where we left off on Wednesday - Up The Lilywhites!

  14. I hope Andy is still looking on the bright side Inver!  St Austell have been in similar situations (even up to only 5 years ago) and the bad times were the catalyst for driving onto our current success!

Yep, we managed a 6-1 win against a side who had lost once in eleven games.  We're now 3 points clear in 4th with 3 games in hand over the teams below us.  Providing we keep the core of our team together in the summer, I think we could look at a title challenge next season!

  15. Sounds like an epic match!  Another game tomorrow night?  Not much time to take a breather!

We're at home tonight, hopefully to consolidate our 4th position - loving every minute of it!

  16. Just when we thought the weather was being merciful, we've been rained off again this afternoon!  Never mind, our two nearest rivals (one above us, the other below) played out a draw last night, making our position much stronger.

  17. There are plenty of games left, so maybe top 3 could be possible by the beginning of May - I don't want to get my hopes up, but it's good to dream!

We just managed to scrape a 2-1 win tonight.  A truly awful performance, but it was enough to push us into 4th.  Interesting fact - we have the best record in the league against the top 6 teams, but the worst against the bottom 3.  Spooky!

  18. Unlucky Inver, maybe he'll have better luck next year.

Yesterday afternoon we were at home to Plymouth Parkway in 2nd place.  We expected to have a near impossible job just to get a draw, but in the end we comfortably beat them 2-0 for our result of the season!  The team immediately above us managed a draw, so we couldn't quite take 4th spot, but we're only behind on goal difference now and have two games in hand.  A win against the bottom club on Tuesday will put us in the top 4 - good times!
