  1. Sounds like good entertainment, just the wrong result! I'm sure the points will start flowing in soon.

We managed a hard-fought 1-0 win in horrendous conditions yesterday. 2 wins from 2, six points on the board and we're 2nd in the table! We needed those points as well - our next game is at home to the champions, Bodmin Town. With the best will in the world, we could be in for a beating!

  2. Good start for your boys Inver! It's interesting to see Rangers in the 3rd Division - I can feel the waves of sympathy you're generating for them!

Our reign at the top ended yesterday as everybody else played. Our place has been taken by our local neighbours St Blazey who recorded a league record 11-0 win over Penzance! Weirdly, Blazey are expected to finish around the bottom 6. The sad story of Penzance started in May when they lost all of their players. Even a week ago they didn't have a single player signed on and had to use our local forum to beg anybody to come and play for them.

It was a credit to the people of West Cornwall that they managed to get enough bodies to start the season. They were all casual players from the lower leagues, including a 57 year-old central defender! We play Penzance on 29th December so I really hope they're still around, but I fear the worst. Cornish football is on a very precarious financial footing at the moment.

Next up for us is Camelford on Wednesday when I hope we can reclaim the top spot!

  3. Of milk?

We kicked off the new season this evening with a 2-1 win over newly-promoted Newquay! As this was the first and only game anywhere in the league, we're top of the entire league! Until at least 4:45 tomorrow anyway! Attendance was a bit lower than expected as the game was shown live on the Cornwall Channel. From the bottom of Division One to the top of the Premier Division in the space of 4 years - good times!

  4. Mousehole in the First Division are away on the 18th, but they have a home game on the 22nd against Helston Athletic (last season's Division 1 runners-up) at 6:30. They've got another home game on the 25th at 3pm against Foxhole Stars.

Alternatively if you fancy seeing a Premier Division game, the match of the week will be on the 22nd at 7:30 where my beloved St Austell take on the league champions Bodmin Town. If you don't mind a small trip to Poltair Park, I think it'll be worth it for just a £4 per person entry fee!

Bodmin are the team to beat in Cornwall at the moment and we're looking to break into the top 6 this season!

  5. Never mind Inver, at least the rain left them alone. We followed up our first result with a 7-0 win over Hayle. Both friendlies have been against lower division sides, but it's nice to see a team really gelling!

Is it too soon to get optimistic about the new season?

  6. It must be a sign of the coming apocalypse - we had a big friendly against Truro City rained off last Friday. We were hoping for a huge crowd as well! Never mind - we're back on track after a 4-1 win on Tuesday. Our new young goalkeeper looked impressive and our new 29 year old (!) manager seems more than capable. Never mind the Olympics - bring on the new season!

  7. It's difficult to read much into the first set of matches - they're traditionally a bit cagey, so it's difficult to see who'll shine and who'll struggle. The next 2-3 days should give us a better indication as teams step up the pace. It's still Germany for me though.

  8. Last night's Charity Cup Final finished Penryn Athletic 3, St Dennis 1. Well done to Penryn, but Poltair Park was the real winner. Plenty of people who hadn't been there for a few years were mighty impressed with our improvements!

  9. Almost there Inver - where are their last 2 opponents in the table?

Our 2nds secured their 5th successive divisional championship on Wednesday - this is an all-time record for their league!

More good news - the prestigious Cornwall Charity Cup Final in Bodmin was rained off on Wednesday and the re-arranged match has been moved to St Austell next week!

  10. I'll have to start exploring the world on Saturday afternoons outside football - it looks a strange and bewildering place!

We've got some unused luck left over from the past seaosn, so I'm sending it up to your Under 14s! :gl:

  11. We finished our season on Friday with a 3-2 defeat at home to lowly Witheridge - we just can't get the hang of these smaller teams! Our nearest rivals went down 3-0 yesterday which would have given us 7th place - if only!

Our manager has now stepped down (as expected for a long time). He's done us proud this season, but I think he and this group of players have taken us as far as they can. We want to be challenging for the titlenext season, so we'll need a big re-organisation. Roy Hodgson and Harry Redknapp were both considered, but they're not Cornish enough!

Our 2nds suffered a shock defeat yesterday, but so did their title rivals, so they stay top on goal difference. With one match to go, as long as they avoid a 12 goal defeat, they will win their 5th successive divisional title. Bring on the Premier Division!

More good news - the FA have awarded us a 'G' ground grading which brings Poltair Park up to FA Vase and FA Cup standard - Wembley here we come!

  12. The good weather held firm yesterday to see us beat 3rd-placed Saltash 3-2! This was the one remaining match we were expected to lose, so it's all good. Unfortunately Liskeard matched that result, so the fight for 7th may go to the wire. We could even have a small chance of finishing in 6th!
