  1. True Inver - we suffer in Cornwall as many people would rather go and watch Plymouth Argyle than support their local side.

We're just off the back of a huge 2-1 win over Saltash, another one of the title favourites. The highlight of the match was when their 90th minute penalty sailed over the bar! :D

Off to Bovey Tracey tomorrow, the same side that we knocked out of the FA Vase this season. Feeling optimistic!

  2. We've had yet another postponement tonight due to our opponents' pitch being waterlogged. That's 5 games called off now - it could be a busy spring! How's it looking near the Arctic Inver?

  3. How's the weather looking now Inver? It's blue sky and sunshine here at the moment - darn cold though!

After 2 home postponements against Plymouth Parkway, we went to their place last night and came away with a 1-0 win. As they're one of the title favourites, it wasn't a bad place to record our first league win for a month! :D

  4. Predictably St Austell were knocked out of the League Cup yesterday. This is the 4th consecutive year that we've gone out in the 2nd round to a lower division side! Annoyingly the 2 Helston strikers who did the damage and the very same pair that we've been trying to sign for the past 12 months - how long can they resist the lure of the mighty Lilywhites?! ;)

  5. Hopefully your boys will be refreshed after their break and ready for a new start.

We've got another home draw in the FA Vase. :D We'll be playing Bemerton Heath Harlequins. I don't know much about the Wessex League, but I think they're on a par with us, so we've got a real chance of making the 3rd Round!

  6. The weather held out yesterday to see us win 4-3! The rain started to come down about 30 seconds before the final whistle. A good win, but we really need to learn how to attack AND defend well in the same match! Still, it earns us a nice £900 in prize money and a place in Monday's 2nd Round draw.

MNore good news - we've managed to make a couple of new signings who have just come home from winning the Swedish 4th Division!

  7. We've had similar weather over the last few days Inver, but today seems to have given us a break. The pitch can best be described as 'soft', but our game is on, fog permitting!

Sorry about last night's result, but I'm sure Scotland can rise to the challenge. As we haven't got our own international side, we have to root for our Celtic cousins, so I have mixed feelings about last night!

  8. Our strikers can be forgiven for not finding the net tonight. I arrived 15 minutes before kick-off, just in time to see the game called off because of thick fog - I couldn't even see the pitch, let alone the goal area! This was a re-arranged match which was originally postponed on 7th September. The opposition weren't pleased after travelling all the way from Plymouth!

Never mind - maybe we'll be more refreshed for our FA Vase match on Saturday.

  9. Sounds like a hard season for your boys Inver. Good luck to them from sunny St Austell!

We're having a bit of a rough ride at the moment - we don't seem able to field a full strength defence and with no real goalscoring prowess we're on a 3 match winless run. And tomorrow we're at home to Plymouth Parkway, one of the early title favourites. We haven't played anyone in the bottom half of the table yet!

  10. It eased the pain to know that we beat the same team 3-0 four weeks ago, so that's a 4-3 aggregate win.

Good result for your Under 15s. I know they were playing the basement club, but the point should still be a good psychological boost for them.

  11. Good News - although the young lad with the fractured skull had to be kept in an induced coma for a few days, he underwent a successful operation and regained consciousness the next day. There's no sign of brain damage and the doctor says that he may even be back on the football field one day! There's been great relief all round.

As far as St Austell are concerned, we went down 3-1 at home to the league leaders yesterday. Four of our six defenders are off on holiday and we still don't have a proficient goalscorer. When will the holiday season end?! :o

  12. We played in well-fought 0-0 draw yesterday. We have one of the best defences in the league, but still can't score!

Things were overshadowed yesterday though by an injury to a young lad in Falmouth Town's match. After a horrific clash of heads with the goalkeeper he was unconscious for about 20 minutes. The match had to be abandoned to allow the ambulance onto the field and he still wasn't fully conscious when they took him away. It sounds like a fractured skull. We're still waiting for more news, but it sounds horrible.

  13. Sounds to me like Andy is almost home and dry - fingers crossed for him!

Due to a mixture of holidays and weddings, we're without any of our recognised strikers today. I'm not too concerned though as they haven't exactly been free-scoring this season. Our lofty league position is mostly down to our defence. Today is an excellent chance to mix things up a bit and try some established players in unfamiliar positions - exciting stuff!

  14. Credit to your Under 15s just for turning up knowing that they could well be in for a pasting in each match. That kind of dedication shows the club is in good working order and can help them to turn the corner soon!

As I may have mentioned, our 1st Team were in a similar position 5 years ago and our subsequent success was built on the determination of that group of players.

When is their next game Inver? We'll send some good vibes their way!

  15. We scraped through in the FA Vase yesterday against a lower league side who had a man sent off after 10 minutes! We played some great passing football and had 80% of the possession but seemed to develop a fear of the goal area. Our only goal came in the 2nd minute of extra time. We desperately need a new striker! Still, we're in the next round and are £700 better off, so I can't complain too much.

  16. Ouch - sounds like a brutal league Inver! I think they'll learn from this and can only improve - chin up!

Mixed results for us - a 4-0 defeat followed by a 1-0 win. It was still enough to keep us in the top 4 though!

  17. Glad they're improving Inver - the first result of the season tends to be unrepresentative of final league positions anyway. Over the last 4 seasons we rarely get off to a winning start and we seem to do OK, so I think your boys will be fine.

  18. What's the name of the Under 15s league Inver and have they got a website?

We had a rest day yesterday after a comfortable 3-0 win over previously unbeaten Launceston. Fifth in the league and things are looking good!

  19. Commiserations for Glendale Inver, but it's still early int he season and things will get better.

I couldn't believe it when the referee declared our game on 20 minutes before kick-off. I haven't seem rain like this for years! The lines were washed away 2 hours before the start, but the young ref decided to go ahead anyway. Amazingly there was no standing water, but I could barely see the players from the touchline through the pouring rain. The ref called it a day after 13 minutes, much to everybody's displeasure. Surely if he considered the game playable at 3:00, then we should have been able to get through the 90 mins! All in all it was a game that should never have started. Still, it was a nice afternoon out! :intherain:

  20. Sound like a real 'Ouch' moment Inver! It's not so long ago that St Austell were on the end of a real drubbing - our manager had to sit down with our weeping goalie at half time and talk him into playing on. Some of those players involved on that day have become some of the league's top players - never give up! If it makes your boys feel any better, Madron, one of our local teams suffered a 55-0 defeat a couple of season's ago!

  21. We suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to the champions last night thanks to some very dodgy refereeing. Normally that would sound like sour grapes, but it was also seen by over a thousand people watching it live on the Cornwall Channel!

I was satisfied though. Over the last 2 seasons, Bodmin have put 4 goals past us each time, so we're on the up!

  22. Great stuff Inver- if you're going to win, you might as well make it exciting! Do you know who you've got in the next round?

Our first team didn't have a game today, so our 2nds sneakily put a few first teamers in their line up for their first game in the Duchy Premier Division. The result - a 9-1 win. All's fair in football!

  23. We still owe Bodmin for beating us in the 2011 Cup Final - The Austell never forget!

Sound like we're sharing a weather system - fortunately we've got the weekend off to watch the other sides dicing with pneumonia!
