  1. Thank you Prospero, that makes a lot of sense to a non-writer. Two questions: 1. Could you give an example of the Deus ex machina in current literature please? 2. Does this mean Agatha Christie's good? (I know she is, but am curious as to your feelings whilst using this 'evidence')
  2. I wouldn't mind a wolf, although a lion/tiger would maybe be more appropriate I was extremely drawn to Hester the hare in the books though. For those who don't remember, she was Lee Scoresby's daemon
  3. I bet you could if you had a gun to your head
  4. Could we have that in the style of 'Writing for Dummies' please?
  5. He was lush wasn't he? All my mates were into American 'boys' like Donny Osmond or David Cassidy. Odd how I like them younger now
  6. I can't believe there isn't already a thread for this, but I've looked and gone back as far as I care and can't see one so good call Kenny. My favourite book is 'Mr God this is Anna' by Fynn. Link, as it's quite obscure
  7. You could have a whole new thread on suggestions for other books
  8. Thank you I shall tell Milly you think she's nice However, not when she's bringing me worms or slugs she isn't I may change the picture for her sister at some point
  9. I'll be eating chocolate. All day That's the tradition here and I'm sticking to it
  10. Indeed I do. i may require somebody younger to come and wind it for me soon though
  11. Not like this then? I still have all my old records
  12. Dunno, but I really liked it when I read it. Admittedly that was before we saw everybody and their dog reading it and so hadn't heard any of the hype at the time. There's quite a few basic factual errors in it totallydisregarding the main theme of the book. Just the journeys, description of the Louvre, the fact that he has an albino driving and so forth that it's quite entertaining to discuss it. Not sure where all the passion came from though, was it a full moon?
  13. I did no such thing! Oh, you said 'memory'
  14. With The Real Thing as support?
  15. I thought he looked well. If you hadn't known what a beautiful young man he was, then you'd think he was a nicer looking older man. He still has that sexy mouth from what I could see under the facial foliage And yes, I was a big fan too. I touched the leg of 'that' white suit when I saw him as a kid - it was the first live show I ever went to.
  16. You couldn't. I have my arm around my keyboard *nods*
  17. That's such a good analogy.
  18. Spooky
  19. Same here! Well not exactly the same obviously I 'usually' only have one on the go but I've recently started a couple of books that (although I do want to read them) I didn't want to read at that point in time. So that's two. I've also started to have a 'bathroom' book. That makes three. A very charming young lady (ahem) sent me a book I couldn't wait to start (it's the kind you can dip in and out of). That makes four. And the proper book I'm reading in a linear fashion at bedtime or when I have reading time. Five in total. Ideally I'd like just two, one in the bedroom and one in the bathroom (or is that men? Am I getting confused?) and aim to get back to that blissful state at some point in the future. Oh yes, I also have various cooking, gardening, textbooks and so forth on the go too which is the main reason I don't like too many 'pleasure' books on the go at once
  20. I like the book trailers you get at the end of books now. I know Tess Gerritsen has them as I remember being very intrigued about 'Body Double' before it came out. It's great to read a chapter, or even a few pages, of the next book in a series or by an author To me, that's a book trailer and I think they are A Very Good Thing *nods*
  21. That's not standard practice for you?
  22. That's what I was saying. Is it still punishable by hanging by the neck until dead or is that piracy of the high seas? I get the two confused
  23. That means something different to me ... just general bent-ness of the corners from being carried around and manhandled rather than corners purposely being turned in order to save the page. (I'm cringing as I type that, you know)
  24. You missed out 'corners turned over', Prospero
  25. Mia, I tend to agree with you, it wasn't nearly as creepy as it should have been And for those of you who aren't aware, or forgot, the next episode is on TOMORROW and not next week
