  1. That creature he's butting heads with is just as heinous. Maybe even worse. She can't make up her mind if she is a feminist or not. Just spouting a load of hot air the silly girl. One minute she wants to do the challengs as she's as strong then RKS should bow out of collecting wood and do the 'gentlemany thing' Idiot Esther's great
  2. The man who made a career of being hit over the head by John Cleese? Yes, I'm sure his pride must be fully-functioning and still intact
  3. It made me laugh that she professed all this angst at what RB said (it was true apparently and she couldn't claim defamation or whatever) and yet she is in a bad called that Poor delicate flower
  4. Well yes, but not by them. After all, they have no need for publicity My thoughts on that are best expressed elsewhere though
  5. I've heard that Andrew Sachs' grand-daughter is going. I suppose she's topical if nothing else
  6. We don't generally hear until the last couple of days do we? After all, it gives the drama queens time to change their mind in the hope of getting more publicity/money and after they have realised that it's not a set and they are real snakes

    24. Hurting Distance by Sophie Hannah Her last book disappointed me but continued to haunt me for a while so I gave this a go when I saw it at the library. For me, it's better than Little Face, or maybe I was expecting less. As appears to be de rigeur nowadays, the detectives are the same as in the previous book (is it compulsory I wonder) but I am sure you cold read the books in isolation. One thing Sophie Hannah does that is different to so may authors is female nutters. She's so good at these 'broken' women with major psychological problems, all caused by big bad men. Hmmm.... Anyhow, it's ok this one. All neatly bundled up at the end too. If you like Little Face, you'll like this 7/10 3/6 books read off Mount TBR - I've bought one book so can't buy any more

    23. Mr Pip by Lloyd Jones This was another of those books I was looking forward to reading (I really must stop doing that) but was disappointed with it. I also wasn't prepared for the sudden injection of gruesomeness. For me it was one thing for most of the book and then it quickly jumped to something else for a while, then it changed to something else entirely. In my opinion it ended up as pretentious bobbins. ~shrug~ 6/10 3/6 books read off Mount TBR - I've bought one book so can't buy any more
  9. Thank you - I shall tell Milly you think so. She's a bit bigger and less cute now but still a gorgeous girl :o)

  10. It was my total-waste-of-reading-time book for last year. Couldn't stand it and the ending was barking mad (I reviewed it in my list for last year but that's millions of pages ago now) Nice to know I'm not alone
  11. I'm another lover of The Book Depository I'm still not buying fiction books though (part of the read three buy one thing on here from ages ago) but have bought non-fiction from them very recently and they are still great
  12. The winner of the show was Peter Kay (metaphorically and literally but I won't confuse matters) I thought it was funny. For these reasons amongst many others: - Cat swearing - Peter Waterman saying everything was 'The best thing in 25 years' - The whole 'R Wayne' thing and saying how good looking etc he was then the camp Village People bit - Doctor Fox not being a real Doctor - Nikki being a bit of a bitch - 'Two Up Two Down'. The whole name of them really made me laugh and then (although it was obvious) the woman falling off the stool and Rick Astley struggling with her - The massive pee takes of the X Factor et al. For instance the massive pauses before an announcement. Loved the whole saying it the wrong way thing I could go on but I did think it was funny, it's a shame it wasn't a short series instead of a huge programme that was on quite late over one night but it was different and it was fun

    House

I adore House. But I've been a fan of Hugh Laurie's for aeons now. I actually rented all the series DVDs so I could see how the relationships develop and so forth. It's class TV. Formulaic but class And the put-downs are so hard to remember or apply
  14. Agreed. Calvin and Hobbes are far superior I appear to have inherited a ton of Garfield books. Tried listing them on ebay, nobody bit. Now I've been given a good idea - use them to cover stuff with
  15. I'm looking forward to it too. Will be interesting as it could be excellent or fall flat on its face
  16. Phew! I was concerned for your waterworks Nellie
  17. I think Nellie may have been having problems
  18. Yes, I thought there would be a bit of a branching out when I read it. Glad you reminded me
  19. I've got all the books but they are from different eras and different houses. It makes quite a difference with the covers and the various interpretations You may find the answer to your question on the wikipedia link I posted earlier

    22. Ferney by James Long This was going to be my next buy. I'm glad it wasn't as it's not a book I would keep (with my now radical 'get rid of books I won't read again' attitude). Having said that, it's ok. The premise is excellent and the plot meanders along at a leisurely pace. You can relate to the characters within reason and there are a couple of mini twists. But, it's sadly not written all that well. I still can't understand why it only got the one print-run way back when, although this does date it a little too. In modern days, Gally (our 'heroine') or her husband Mike, would have looked things up on the Internet, so taking a lot of doubt away 6/10 3/6 books read off Mount TBR - I've bought one book so can't buy any more

    21. Robert Barnard - Dying Flames. I'm not saying it this time (you know; I was going to keep away from RB blah blah blah) but when I see them in the Library and they wave at me. Well, what am I to do? So, the plot: Graham is a novellist, a girl turns up and says he's her father. He knows he isn't but starts to get involved/embroiled in the family. The mother turns up dead. Graham looks at the past to find out who is the killer. It's not as good as his usual stuff but it's ok for a light read 6/10 3/6 books read off Mount TBR - I've bought one book so can't buy any more
