  1. I saw this on a book site and thought it would be fun. You usually get asked which people you'd like to have dinner with but this one is which book characters you'd choose. So ... list ten book characters you'd like to dine with. (I'm still trying to think 🤔)
  2. I think they believe only 144,000 will go to heaven, the rest will reside on a new earth. I always talk to JW 's who visit and became friendly with several of the women. I don't agree with their doctrine on many points but try to find areas of common ground. It's probably a complete waste of time, because they're not going to change my mind and I doubt I'll change theirs. But mostly they're genuine people and I don't like being rude to them.
  3. I'm in awe that you can read and knit at the same time, France! I don't have to watch what I'm doing all the time with straight forward knitting, but I need to glance at it fairly regularly. I imagine that would make reading difficult ... I'll have to give it a go. I read once about a girl who could knit socks and turn a heel whilst reading 😯 I've found my attention drifts too much while listening to audiobooks in the car. I end up missing big hunks of the story. I'm fine with music because I don't have to concentrate.
  4. Give a Little Bit ~ Supertramp It's very easily done, timebug. Particularly if you click on a notification and others have posted since then, you can be posting to the previous page. I've done it heaps of times. What I try to remember to do now, is check I'm on the last page before I reply.
  5. The Third Man by Graham Greene
  6. Anything's got to be better than the film starring Tom Cruise 🙄 My Dad played the original radio broadcast to me and described the ensuing panic when I was young. The story really captured my imagination. Loved Jeff Wayne's musical version.
  7. I've had 3 covid vaccinations and the flu one. Got through winter ( southern hemisphere) without getting the flu' but managed to succumb to covid. I don't know if I'll bother with any more covid boosters, I didn't have any adverse reaction to them but I feel pretty covided out at the moment. Hubby is going to pass though. He got a mild case of myocarditis from two of them. The Dr poo-pooed his symptoms for a start, saying it was just indigestion and that myocarditis from the vaccine only affected young people. Blood tests proved him wrong. I was quite disgusted with his dismissive attitude.
  8. I think the atmosphere of a forum depends largely on the administration, what behavior they allow and their general attitude. Here, the luck is definitely on our side, Hayley. We have you to thank for this being such a lovely, warm, friendly place. Under your guidance it's become the nicest forum I've ever been involved in 😊 (I could tell you some stories about bullying on other sites that would make your hair curl 😱)
  9. Have a good trip, Muggle and safe travels 🥰
  10. In 2019, Muggle. This is my comment from then 😊 Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens A simply wonderful book, beautifully and lyrically written. Is now one of my very top favourites of all time. It is up there with To Kill A Mockingbird, in my estimation. I very rarely give a book a five star rating, but this is one of them. Can't recommend highly enough. Thank you very much to Muggle for his insistence that I read this (he's never been wrong so far ). ★★★★★

  13. It's interesting that our parents love of reading often rubs off on us. My mother loved reading, mostly fiction, although the Bible would have been her favourite book. My Dad was more of a non-fiction reader. I read many of the books they enjoyed. My grandmother was also a big reader, she loved Greek Mythology and classics. One of my earliest memories is of her reading to us for hours. Although I mostly read ebooks now, the biggest treat for me used to be a trip to the library. So it's really no surprise that when I looked for an online group to join, it was a book one. Apart from making some great friends over the years, it has been wonderful in the way I've been introduced to books I'm sure I would never have discovered otherwise.
  14. I was on another book forum, BookandReader, where I met Muggle and quite a few other friends. He invited me to this forum and I discovered I liked it better 😊
  15. Gorgeous photos, Muggle. Now that is a perfect rainbow! 🌈
  16. Little Lion Man ~ Mumford and Sons
  17. Don't worry in the slightest 😅 I look at them sometimes and can't see where the association is either, it takes me ages to click. And what can happen (I think that's what occurred with timebug's post above, and I've done it frequently too) is the person posts a reply to the previous page, not realising someone else has replied in the meantime.
  18. I was using 'the' as the common word. Not something I usually do, but I believe it's allowed?
  19. The Lion and Albert ~ Stanley Holloway ( have you heard this old one, Muggle? Very funny. There's a Part 2 I'll post another time)
  20. That's right! If it hadn't been for that time, I'm sure you would have beaten me 😊
  21. Agree with you entirely, Raven. I've never seen eye to eye with many of Paul's teachings. As it stands, the law states any church will not be compelled to conduct gay marriages. I'm sure many will change their stance as time goes by, but I'd be surprised if the more conservative ones will. And churches cover many sects and religions. I can't imagine Muslims changing their minds on this. You would think if a gay couple wanted to get married in church, they would gravitate towards the more liberal ones. But my point really was that Christian churches should welcome anyone into their congregation whatever their beliefs.
  22. That girl has FAR too much to say for herself!! 😉 Dance Me To the End of Love ~ Leonard Cohen
  23. If something is contrary to a particular religion or denomination's beliefs, I don't think they should be forced into it. People don't need a church to be married. But many churches ARE performing gay marriages now, so it isn't really a problem. I wasn't commenting on the rightness or wrongness of a churches stance rather that no-one should be ostracised for whatever reason.
  24. Gotta Serve Somebody ~ Bob Dylan
  25. I agree churches should have the option of refusing to perform gay marriages. I was talking about inclusiveness ... not excluding anyone from attending and encouraging people to be accepting of differences.
