  1. We went out to get a pizza to bring home this evening. The restaurant is on a street that is exceptionally nice with lots of exceptional little shops. Next to the restaurant there is an Art shop that has original paintings for sale. They have a Carolina Jasmine growing along their picket fence by the sidewalk that has a fragrance that is out of this world. I could smell it from across the street. If I get down to that area soon I will take a photo of it.
  2. I really used to enjoy having steak on Friday evening and then on Saturday morning I would have left-over steak and scrambled eggs.
  3. My spring onions are about an inch above ground. The spinach and radishes are just starting to pop through. I cut the lawn grass Friday evening and Saturday morning. Wow, what a job with the push mower. It took mea between 3 and 4 hours. I wish the garedne centers would hurry up and get more of their flowers out so I can start buying them and planting.
  4. It really is a nice every day drinking wine. Wish that I could find the Shiraz-Malbec but in the meantime the plain Malbec is very good. I will buy another bottle this evening or tomorrow.
  5. I prefer Rachael Ray.
  6. Sometimes you really have to be careful about what you plant as some plants are very invasive and are almost impossible to get rid of easily. We are going to buy some small Azealas today. The garden center has them on sale .....5 for $20. They are small but will grow.
  7. Yuk, Sushi belongs under the "Foreign Food" category for me. I have many foods that are my favorites and find it difficult to pick from them.
  8. I will plant a purple Lilac at our new house but I am not sure it will do well as it may not be cold enough for it. They like very cold winter temperatures and it isn't that cold where I now live. I will still give it a try though.
  9. That ceertainly is beautiful PP. That is a very nice "growth" of Jasmine and it is full of flowers. I'll bet it smells nice. Does anyone grow Lilacs. I am especially partial to the Old Fashioned Purple Lilacs. I don't know of anything that has a better fragrance than Lilac.
  10. Poppy, I love the wild roses and don't remember ever seeing such a nice bunch. Echoing PP, you are indeed lucky to live in such a beautiful place. It would be wonderful to walk amongst those roses. I nominate your photos as photo of the year for the forum.
  11. Suggestion: Everyone pester Poppy to post a photo of her roses. She has one of the nicest plantings of roses that you will ever see.
  12. PP, that is a beautiful Jasmine (or Honeysuckle) that you have. I love it. Pedigree (or dogmatix to some), I love your Clematis. Is is really full of flowers. We are thinking of planting three "Gulf Stream Nandina" plants in front of our screen porch. We are really starting from scratch and it will be fun. http://www.marcumsnursery.com/inventory/shrubdesc/nandina.htm
  13. I am going to plant a Carolina Jasmine near our screen porch. They are very fragrant in very early spring and have a pretty flower. http://www.sd1new.net/GardenPages/carolina-jasmine.htm
  14. You may have heard the term "sod buster", that was me yesterday. I was busting sod for my garden, not very big - 20 ft X 20 FT, with a tiller and shovel. I have it looking pretty good now. I went over the ground in 4 different directions with the tiller and spaded around the perimeter. Then I raked it and picked out most of the sod pieces. I am going to mix in a load of manure and compost and hope to get some things in the garden this weekend, spring onions, spinach, and radishes. I know that Sofia does a little gardening, anyone else.
  15. We were invited out to dinner on Sunday and I took 2 bottles of wine. One of which was the Triventa Malbec. The wine was very enjoyable and everyone liked it. It went well with the grilled steak. Unfortunately I only got to have 1 glass of the wine.
  16. The Stand by Stephen King - 1038 pages Princes Of Ireland by Edward Rutherfurd - 800 pages Rebels Of Ireland by Edward Rutherfurd - 896 pages
  17. Hopw far are you into the book. I thought IT was a little scary. I have about 150 pages to go in The Stand out of 1038 pages. So far it is still probably the best Stephen King I have read, excellent reading IMO.
  18. Thanks Pedigree (dogmatix to some). I will sign up. Maureen, they didn't have the "Shiraz-Malbec" but I did get a bottle of the "Malbec" by Triventa. I will let you know when I get a chance to try it.
  19. Yep, agree. It would ruin part of the reading to give out too much info. If anyone does start the series I strongly recommend that you read them in sequence. As a matter of fact they actually "have' to be read in sequence.
  20. Well don't keep it a secret. What did you buy. Maureen, what a coincidence. Every Wednesday our paper has a food section and today one of the advertisements by a grocery store (Harris Teeter - for dogmatix info) included an advertisement for the Trivento wine. Tomorrow we go grocery shopping and I will get a bottle of the wine.
  21. I really did enjoy his writing. I went to look in my bookcase today for his books and realized that I had given all of them to the library. For those of you that have not read his books, I recommend him highly.
  22. Just did a Google on the wine and it was rated very well. Now I have another wine to look for when in the wine store.
  23. James Clavell was one of my favorite authors at the time that I was reading his books. I miss his writing very much. Whirlwind was one of my least favorite though of his books.
  24. I believe that Robert Jordan has created what may be somewhat of a Classic in the Wheel Of Time series. However, books 8, 9, and 10, were quite below par. Book 11, Knife Of Dreams improved considerably over the previous 3 books. I recommend the series to all fans of Sci-Fi / Fantasy. The first 5 or 6 books were especially great reading.I believe that the series will end in the next 1 or maybe 2 books.
  25. I am on page 680 of The Stand and so far it is the absolute best book by King that I have read, and I have read many of his.
