Hi Louise.
I keep hearing about The Last Wichfinder and I have been tempted to get it.
Would you recommend it and is it part of a series?

The Salmon Of Doubt is a great book for anyone who likes Douglas Adams.
The first half of it is different essays from Adams about all sorts of things - his life, his computers, his thoughts on tea, etc. Then there is a short Zaphod story and an unfinished Dirk Gently story as well in the second half of the book. All in all, a great collection of Adams' writing, and a book that kept me chuckling away to myself all the way through.

The Polar Special episode was really good.
I was so glad that Jeremy and James were put together - they were brilliant entertainment.

I'll be watching it. I really do enjoy Top Gear so hopefully this will be a good episode. It seems to be from the look of the trailers.

I sometimes struggle with books where for the first 6 or more chapters there are whole different sets of characters and settings for each chapter. I'm usually fine once the characters have started to be revisited, but I find that I can get a little confused at the beginning.

I think I actually prefer Douglas Adams' Dirk Gently books to some of the books from The Guide. Don't get me wrong, I love The Guide, but some of the later books felt as though they dragged in places and they were not quite as good as the earlier ones. However, saying that, I found both sets of books to be very, very funny. Dirk himself is just a great character to read about.

Wow, it's amazing how you guys can read this book in so little time.
It would take me a few days (at least) to finish it.
From what I've heard, most fans have really enjoyed this one.
Hopefully it's not a letdown for many.

Really enjoyed the first Dirk Gently book, possibly more than some of The Guide books.
I'm now going to have a go at the next Dirk Gently novel.........

Thanks for the review, PDR.
I've had this one waiting on the shelf for a while but didn't really know what it was like or whether it was any good or not. Looks to be a fairly good and interesting read.

I finally got round to reading this book and absolutely loved it.
I thought McMurphy was a great character and I loved the changes he made to the ward; how the other patients began to change in their thinking and behavior in the ward.
I also enjoyed the 'battle' that went on throughout the book between McMurphy and Nurse Ratched. The ways in which these two characters tried to get the upper hand at every given moment really kept me gripped as it made me want to know what would happen next between these two.
The ending completely surprised me. It was as if Nurse ratched had finally beaten McMurphy and had won the battle. It was not until the end that I realised how much I liked McMurphy and wanted him to win.

Absolutely loved One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. I thought that the ways in which the characters change throughout the book were really well told. Also, the ending completely surprised me. An excellent book.

I enjoy both first-person and third-person perspective books. Both have their good points (which have already been mentioned in the thread, so I won't repeat everybody). Neither style would put me off a book.

Would any of you say that it would be better to read his books in order of publication, or whether it would be ok to just read Cloud Atlas first?
