In fact, we were brought together by books.. because that's what you bought from me on ebay!

I actually started this a while back, read about 100 pages, and just wasn't really being 'grabbed' by it. It got put aside as I got into other things. I picked it back up on Sunday, and I have to say, suddenly it's working for me. Maybe I hit a good point, maybe my frame of mind is different. The bit that my brain had trouble with was that he changes his age aswell. I expected him to be a set age, no matter where he jumped to.. I didn't think about him jumping throughout his life. So, you have a 36 year old man jumping into his past.. he meets Clare when she's 6. However, when he's 28, he may jump to a part of his past where Clare is 20. It sounds odd, doesn't it?! However, it's starting to flow together now, and make sense. The actual writing style is really nice, it's 'grown up', but easy to read... if that makes any sense!? lol

I have recently found myself reading quite a few at the same time. and yes, it does seem to reflect on my mood. Just shows you my moods aren't exactly 'stable' these days!

Long articles, but interest some.. The Case For Stephen King as Literature

This is a trilogy: A Child Called 'It' The Lost Boy A Man Named Dave I almost didn't make it through the first book, because it was just so horrifying and heartbreaking. Dave underwent the most terrible abuse at the hands of his mother, whilst his dad did nothing. The second book is about his 'rescue', and the foster homes he lived in. It's also about how he battled and grew as a teenager. It gives a look into the problems faced by social services and foster carers in the 70's. The final book is the most amazing of them all. You want to think that Dave suddenly had a great life, but he didn't.. he continued to have many struggles. But, he grew into an amazing man, and to this day throws himself into helping others. It's not the easiest book to read, and can be very upsetting, but it is thought-provoking, and stays with you long after you put it down.

Although I've seen a cartoon version of 'The Lion etc' I haven;t read it. Bethany was interested, so we've started. She has The Chronicles of Narnia, so I decided to take a look at the first one, 'The Magician's Nephew'. It was actually an enjoyable read, explaining just how the wardrobe became a door to Narnia. Even if Bethany doesn't want to continue, I may well be continuing the rest of the books! Is anyone planning to see the film?

This author writes for teenegers, but I actually really enjoyed The Amulet of Samarkand. Having just looked in Amazon, a lot of his books look really good. Has anyone read any others?

What books have you read that were written for children, but you've enjoyed as an adult? Obviously Harry Potter falls in to this, but what else have you come across? I picked up The Amulet of Samarkand by Jonathan Stroud a while back, and that was pretty good. Good enough, in fact, that I'm considering getting the next two in the trilogy.

After looking at it many times, I finally picked up the trilogy in a charity shop, and have almost finished the first part, A Child Called It. http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0752853716/202-5673453-4646244 It is the most amazing, heart-breaking story. It is just beyond me to believe that people like this exist.. the cruelty is just beyond words. I'm glad I have the trilogy, because I believe that Dave grows to be an extraordinary man, helping others.. and I have to read that positive outcome.

Nancy Drew Article I remember reading these books, but I don't really remember the content. I'm amazed that they've been around so long! I wonder if you can still get them?
