There was some sort of documentary on just before this series started, and someone on it more or less said that the best thing was to just go with the flow, and it would all pay off bythe end of the series.
I used to go to the forums, listen to the podcasts etc, to look at all the little details, but for this series I think I'll just get even more confused! So, going with the flow it is!
-
Does that mean that you don't have any books waiting to be read?
-
Isn't James Patterson the one who has writers helping him?
-
Kell, stop tempting me with new books!!
-
That's good to know, I was getting rather confuddled last Sunday!
-
I think the confusion has come because we have changed the way that the reading circles work. In the past, people were reading during the month, and so posters were careful with spoilers, as teh discussions went along. With the new changes, it is expected that you will have read the book once you come to the discussion.
It was a point worth raising, I think I'll make it clear that whilst reviews and general discussions shouldn't contain spoilers, the reading circle discussions will.

An old friend of mine makes them with suede and co-ordinating gemstones - they're gorgeous and she can do them to order! Have a look HERE and if you end up ordering anything from her, say Kell sent you!
I ordered two of these, and they are beautiful! Highly recommended, especially if you like gemstones.

It was mentioned in the latest email from them. This page might help you.

The thing I found strange is that I used to be able to read in trains, but that was when they were the rickety old ones (1990ish.. I'm not that old! lol) - when they replaced them with the newer, smoother trains, not only could I not read, but I get a bit travel sick just travelling in them!
-
I'm jealous of people who can read whilst travelling.. I get travel sick!

Not quite - apart from The Immortals, you need to start at the beginning of a trilogy!

One of the problems is that autism tends to show most at around 13 months, which is when the MMR is given. I think that when something happens to one of your children, you want answers, and so you look at all events that have happened recently. One important thing to note is that the National Autistic Society supports the MMR.

Just had a lovely galaxy hot chocolate.
I love the chocolate, so I may have to give this a try!

Oh boy, not the MMR debate! That always causes nasty arguments.
basically, one paper was published that seem to suggest some connection between the measles part, and autism. No other piece of research has been able to show the same connection, and plenty of studies have continued to show the safety of the MMR vaccine. In the mean time, many parents have become scared of the MMR, there is a large increase in Measles, especially in London and the SE, and there has been a death.
In case any arguments do start, I will say here and now that as both a practice nurse, and a mother, I am aware that vaccines have risks, as do all medicines, but I believe the risks of the illnesses are greater. My two have had all their jabs, and I give them as part of my job.
I have been rather hurt by some personal comments thrown at me when discussing vaccines on other forums, so I will not be getting involved in any further discussion here should it happen.
Phew.. I'll be quiet now!

I think older readers (such as members on here) may actually do better by starting with The Immprtals.. it's enjoyable in it's own right, and you really don't have to know the history. I'm very much enjoying the earlier books, but if I'd started there, I may have felt them a little young.
The other alternative is to read them in the 'chronological order' (rather than publication order) which is what Kell suggested to me, and start with The Curse of the Gloamgloazer, which is the Quint trilogy. For me, it had an 'older' feel than In the Deepwoods does.
Does that make sense?!

This isn't a comment on the poll choices, but it really annoys me that science fiction, fantasy and horror keep getting lumped together as they are completely separate genres to my mind.
I think she used the forum categories here for the poll. In our defense, we weren't saying that they were the same, but rather trying to group a few things together so we weren't over run with categories.

It's not really a spoiler, it's just speculation.
-
My own personal experience is that the older books are a little more obviously children's books - I'm reading Beyond the Deepwoods (book 1) at the moment, and it seems more suited to Beth's age than Curse of the Gloamgozer (book 4). The Immortals had the most 'grown up' developed feel to it.
Kell, and anyone else who has read, how did you find the various books?
I've just published an interview with the author and illustrator, and it's interesting to see how the series developed.

Actually no I think it is
the OCD Chief inspector
What makes you think that Colin.. and wasn't he otherwise occupied when the murders took place?
Do you mean the tour guide Colin? that would be too obivious but at the same time, so obivious, we might not guess
I was thinking the same Paula!

Well I did go ahead and order it, so I shall let you know my thoughts.

I know for a fact that there are plenty of people on here who like chick lit.
-
Chimera, I'm reading quite a few reviews on amazon that say it's far too slow, and there's not enough answers. And yet, those of you who have read it find it powerful and under stated. I always find this sort of thing interesting, wondering if those who find it slow are used to plot driven, action books. I found the same thing with The Road - there wasn't a fast moving plot, but that wasn't the point of the book.
I think I may have to order this one, and make up my own mind.

Mine has changed over time, and continues to do so. I started off reading horrow, then moved to crime. Then came Historical Fiction and some chick lit.. then very much contempory fiction. I also go through phases of enjoying a little sci-fi. Recently I've been favouring YA fantasy.

We have a whole thread about ebooks, readers etc. As this is wandering into that area, I'm going to merge this one with it.
