Yes, but you also have to be sure where these websites get their information from, and we all know that most info can be twisted to show what you want it to.
I don't think anything unnatural is particularly good for you, but I also don't like sites set up to scare people.

ii, are you going off topic by any chance?

I could understand if it was just a case of how well can they shop, cook etc (even though I still say they're too young to have to know yet), but not when they're fighting, bullying etc

The aspartame discussion as been moved to it's own thread, on Inver's request.

I'm afraid I personally don't agree with this idea that all government agencies are only interested in money, and not our safety. The page I linked to above included the following:
Following the publication of a number of anecdotal reports, which cast doubt on the safety of this sweetener, the Food Standards Agency pressed the European Commission in 2001 to revisit its previous safety assessment of aspartame (1988) at the earliest opportunity; and provided assistance in preparing a summary report for consideration by the former Scientific Committee on Food (SCF).The SCF reviewed more than 500 papers published in the scientific literature between 1988 and 2001 on the safety of aspartame, including studies supporting the safety of aspartame and others pointing to potential adverse effects.
Now I'm not saying that this stuff is wonderful, or denying that it may cause problems for some people, but if after a review of 500 papers, it's still available, then it can't be that bad.

There are always things said about Aspartame, but I try to never judge things without seeing very good research. If there was good research, I'm sure the various food standard agenices would ban it.
Edit: For anyone now worried about this, I believe this page is quite useful to read; http://www.food.gov.uk/safereating/chemsafe/additivesbranch/sweeteners/55174

Did anyone see this? I didn't, but I have seen some news reports about it, and it looks appalling! I know they say it's supposed to show that children are too 'protected', but why expect 8-12 year olds to be able to live independently for 2 weeks?!

Whilst trying to make sure GR and LT were up to date, I realised that I've given up on Julie Walter's autobiography for now. It is an interesting read, with the humour you would expect from Julie. However, I feel I've been spoilt by Dawn French's autobiography, which was so well written, funny *and* touching, that all others are going to struggle.
The other thing I found about this book was that Julie does go off on tangents, and also changes subject quite abruptly. It's actually a reflection of a natural way of telling your life stories, but in a book format, it doesn't quite work for me

There's a thread here about them. They're children's fantasy books, but they're so well imagined. They're easy read books, which means they're good for relaxing, as well as picking up and down when time is short.

I've finished The Curse of the Gloamglozer, and have quite a few more in the series. Despite being fantasy, they are easy, relaxing reads. Having read The Immortals, and then going back, I feel that the earlier books are aimed at slightly younger readers, with The Immortals having more to offer. I don't know if that's because the series simply developed like that, or if the author is aware that the original fans are now older.

I'm now officially addicted to The Edge Chronicles - I've finished The Curse of the Glaomglozer, and have ordered the next two in the trilogy. Beyond the Deepwoods arrived today, and I've also ordered the next two in that trilogy too.

harm, I don't suppose any f the 'professional' singers want to be connected with the Eurovision!

Some of Carole Matthews' books have different titles when published in the US.

I think she's a decent enough singer, but I was SO disappointed with the song.

Thank you for the review, I may have to read this one.

Yeah well.. it was a while ago!

I went to a grammar schol, so thankfully reading was encouraged.

And I didn't say that anyone here was being snobbish!
I guess this is all a matter of interpretation.

I do understand what you're trying to say Kay, but I agree with the other people who've responded. To me, it doesn't matter what you read, as long as you're doing so. Of course, I know people who would disagree, but for me, that is entering the realms of book snobbery.

Well I did say I enjoyed it!
I'm looking forward to hear how you find it, having read the rest.

The Immortals is the 10th book in The Edge Chronicles, a series that has somehow passed me by so far. After finishing this book, however, that is about to change.. I

I've been debating whether or not to read Goldman's The Princess Bride for some time. I'd love to know what you think of it when you get around to reading it, Kylie
.

You cannot call yourself a reader unless you've read...

You managed to swing it around back ON topic, so I'll let it go this time!
It's a good job you mentioned the book in there somewhere!
Of course, I was going to direct you all to a thread that I'm SURE I started in the dim and distant past, discussing just this subject.. but I think the archive fairies have been at it!
