I will look forward to that review, as I gave up on King when I couldn't get into Lisey's Story.

I'm quite liking GoodReads the more I play with it. http://www.goodreads.com/mjmoore is me, if anyone wants to add me.

He's called Matt Smith, and yes, he can look a bit odd! lol
Ceinwenn, I don't think I like you any more!

Well as much as it pains me, I've had to accept that Tennant IS going, so I have to look forward. I didn't want anyone too well known in the role, so in that way I'm pleased. I'm willing to sit back and wait and see what he does with the role.

It's gone very quiet - how does everyone feel? I can him in the part, but I am concerned about how young he is!
And, after all this build up, we now have to wait for over a year to see him in the role!

Because even threads about a particular season will have general issues discussed in it. Also, if you read Gyre's initial post, her queries were general ones.. she just happened to start the thread when series 2 was about to start. I shall change the thread title.

K1nS, could you please search before starting new threads, as this will save the mod team having to merge them. Thank you.

Having just read you review Kylie, I pretty much agree on your thoughts. The author obviously has a love of books, and of words, and I very much liked her style.
I had the same problems.. there was a little too much about Margaret's twin, and I did feel the Angerfield family's characters were slightly unbelieveable. However, despite those points, the story hooked me, and I felt connected to the characters. In fact, I was surprised how upset I was as some of them died.
I also never considered the era, there was nothing really modern in it, but I did feel it was set quite recently, with Margaret being a rather sheltered, old-fashioned person.
All in all, a very good start to my reading year.

Isn't it funny how most women want the opposite hair to what they have! You should try being in the middle.. mine is neither straight nor wavy, it just has these annoying 'kinks' in it!
-
How can you ruin your hair forever.. surely layers eventually grow out again?!
I had short hair quite a bit when I was younger, because when it was longer I was always putting it up. Well, it's not exactly long now, but I mean really short.

How on earth do you manage that many books?!

I had a gift card to spend in WHSmiths, so I took a look at these, and decided on The Suspicions of Mr Whichers, and The Gargoyle. I can't say that any of the others called to me, and even The Gargoyle was a difficult second choice.

Ben, I was thinking of the books that you'd read this year, no matter when published. And, I see that the answer is no, you can't pick just one!
-
Ok, looking back over 2008, can you pick just one that stood out for you.. for whatever reason?
-
Can we see them?
-
This is one I keep meaning to try - I'd be interested in your final verdict.

That's what I'm doing Karen, especially as the import didn't work.

I've managed to stay organised this year, using both LibraryThing, and keeping a list on my blog. However, my blog adds up to 81 books, whilst LT says 87.. I'll have to look through later, and find out if that's because LT includes the few books that I didn't actually finish, or if I missed any on my blog!
Anyway, it's been a good year.. if you look on the list on my blog, I've starred the books that stood out.. and there are quite a few of them!

That was the first one I'd read, so I can't compare. It's good to know though!

Although I think the groups can be useful, I think you get more out of having discussions on the forum. In the group, you are restricted to the people who join, plus they're not included in the unread post count, so you may miss new discussions.
The groups are useful for posting photos etc, but if you're discussing the book, I would suggest keeping them out here.

Ooh, that sounds good - where did she get it from?
-
Yes, it is a shame it's so expensive. When it comes to the ebooks, however, I'm pretty sure that it will accept all types, not just the ones sold at waterstones. There are a lot of ebboks out there that I'd like to explore, but I struggle reading them on the laptop screen, so a reader like this would be useful.

This is an interesting point.. why do some of you feel that you need to know when a book is set, and why do you feel unsettled if you don't? It was something that I didn't even consider until I started reading other people's thoughts and reviews. Do books need to have a particular time setting?
