Well last night's episode was better than I was expecting it to be, but it's still not firing on all cylinders by a long way.
There are a few of things I found puzzling last night:
1) If they have a group of armed thugs on their doorstep, why not just move?
Yes, I also found that strange.. maybe it's just the general principle, they have their big house, and they don't see why they should move??
I'm also getting bugged by small things.. such as, even though many seemed to die overnight, those roads are extremely empty! And yet, it can't have all been overnight, considering the people in the mosque. Plus, if it was at night, why are many of the shops conveniently unlocked? Or are we to assume that people have already broken in??

Well I'm quite glad I didn't know that - at least now I know I'm not a total geek!

P.S Congrats to Michelle for posting at the most awesome time of the day
Erm.....?

Considering that, will the same thing happen to her husband
I hope not, she burned the corpse!Well yes, there is always that fact!

Anyone watching? I find the story lines quite ridiculous, but am enjoying it just the same! There are forums out there dedicated to the whole show, and they're really into all the details, and the overall story arc.. most of which are probably passing me by! However, it's a good way to finish my weekend.

Beth and I are quite enjoying this on a Saturday night, even though it's a bit predictable that Merlin keeps saving the day, but not able to take the credit, because of his magic!

Don't read if you recorded the first episode, and haven't watched yet!
Did anyone watch this last night? I wasn't particularly convinced by the way the flu virus took over.. it seemed to build up slowly, but then suddenly kill nearly everyone overnight!
Apart from that, it seems rather addictive. It'll be interesting to see what that lab is up to, and also why the woman appeared to die, and then revived, whereas the others didn't get ill at all.
Considering that, will the same thing happen to her husband and the doctor's friend? If you look on the website, they are standing there with the other survivors, but as far as we know, they are dead.
Did anyone watch the original series?

My thoughts on The Road, as posted on the review blog..
The Road was originally released in 2006, and one year later, it was the winner of The Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. It has received many outstanding reviews, but also some negative. With the release of Harvey Weinstein’s film in 2009, panmacmillan are releasing a film tie-in version. The Road tells of a journey taken by a man and his son, years following an unnamed catastrophe that has befallen North America, and presumably the rest of the world. There are brief hints as to what has happened, but nothing more. Most of life has gone.. plants are dead, and most species are extinct.
This is not an action tale, which seems to be the main point of the negative reviews. The story does not depend on moments of drama or terror, but rather the day to day struggle to exist, in a bleak world.
The style is basic and minimal, with no chapters, and no speech marks. It takes a while to get used to, but once involved in the book, the style allows the journey and the story to unfold, without any distraction.
Set against this dark background, is the close relationship between the father and son, as they continuously strive to survive. This closeness is ever apparent, as they rely on each other day to day. Through them you feel fear, love and also hope, as they attempt their continuous journey together.
An action book this may not be, but it’s certainly one that will leave a lasting impression on you.

Nice promotion of your own blog there!
Your amazon link is asking me to sign in aswell, for some reason?
Anyway, welcome to here...

I believe there's something wrong with your link, as it leads to an article entitled Plan to shutter newsstand pierces heart of Harvard Sq. There's also no need to use tinyurl on here - if you embed the link, as you have done, the length of link makes no difference, and even if you post it direct, the vB software shortens it.

So the film has been hyped as much as the book?

Charm, I was telling anyone who may be interested, not specifically responding to you.

No need to sell at all!

Those two both sound interesting! I like short stories, and Daphne Du Maurier is someone I keep meaning to try.

The official site includes an excerpt.

It's not gory in the same way that a (for example) Richard Laymon book is. I would say it's more 'creepy'! (Sorry, I'm sleepy.. my brain won't let me describe it any better right now! lol)

Was it in a good way though?

Hmm.. The Memory Keeper's Daughter seems to be one of those 'marmite' books. I, for one, really liked it, and you can see a few different views on it here.
It probably is fairly long and descriptive, for what it is, but for me that worked. I guess it's one you have to judge for yourself.. although I do think it can be hard to approach a book with an open mind once you've read negative views.

Just to say that I did pass it on to Bethany - her initial impressions were good, she found the cover attractive, and immediately recognised that the drawings were the same as in her Roald Dahl books.
She then needed a little persuading to actually give it a try.. she’s not keen on longer books, and I think she was worried by the length. However, once she started reading it, she kept going.. even picking it up instead of turning on the TV!
She enjoyed the characters, found the story funny, and she also said that the illustrations were good, because they helped her picture what was happening. Importantly, she also understood the message of acceptance.
As I have said, she’s not that keen on longer books, so if this one held her, then it’s definitely a thumbs-up!

I assume it wasn't working because I hadn't long been awake, and made a mistake. As you can see from the little footnote though, Nici corrected it for me.

muggle, don't forget that the US is in front of us!

Colin, there's a thread about reviews here.
Business Stripped Bare by Richard Branson
in Non Fiction
Posted
Although this book is marketed as a Business book, it has a much wider appeal. It offers some very interesting glimpses into how Richard Branson runs his companies, as well as some of the global issues that he believes in.
During the course of the book, he outlines how he first started in business, and how he grew Virgin Records from very little. He also gives insights into the mobile phone business, his airlines, and even space travel.
