  1. LOL, it is - it was my favourite series for a long time. Season 1 is a bit more patchy but it gets better in season 2 onwards.
  2. I've been doing the same lately - I bought all the bluray remasters in an Amazon sale some time back. Just finished season 2. Otherwise, I am only really watching Westworld at the moment.
  3. Ironically, buying from supermarkets does as much damage as buying online from the likes of Amazon. They all undercut bookshops through bulk buying power and shut them down in the same way. But what Madeleine says is right - many specialist bookshops do find it easier now to exist online, with less overheads. And they can still provide a service that supermarkets and the likes of Waterstones can't.
  4. Only way around that is to treat the job as a job and your life outside as your real life - and fill that with the good stuff. Makes the bit at work more bearable when you know it doesn't define you. God, I sound old lol. But its true.
  5. That's good then. Never assume everyone knows what's going on - often not the case at all. Definitely more awkward if its not part of your job. However, it can be awkward when friends are also under you. Ultimately one would hope they respect you enough to understand you're talking to them with your manager hat on, and separate that from you as a person. Hope it works out, anyway!
  6. Autumn - I would think long and hard before opting to give up a promotion (even if that's do-able). Dealing with staffing issues is 1 of those things that often comes with promotion. I had a few when I was promoted once and its just something you have to grit your teeth with. Why let those stop you doing the rest of the job and reaping the rewards (presumably it involved a pay rise)? Its something that comes with the territory - if the rest of the job is ok, don't let 1 small part of it spoil it.
  7. That's a shame - a lot of bookshops have been lost over the years, so its no wonder that people use the internet. Although of course some shops now are ONLY on the internet as the costs are lower, so it allows them to carry on operating.
  8. God there are lots of places I could recommend in the UK to visit but putting them all together in a timetabled trip is quite a feat! Of the major cities, I'd definitely include London and Liverpool in England and Edinburgh in Scotland. Depends what you like - landscapes? History? We have lots of both? Culture? That too...

    Heyya

    Hey! Welcome.
  10. Hi! Welcome!
  11. Westworld. Best thing I've seen on TV since Gotham.
  12. Agreed on the latter point - I did pick up a couple of 1960s Pan James Bond paperbacks I was after for £4 each, which was what I would expect to pay for them (then got a filthy look for asking for a paperbag to protect my purchases!). But so much of their stock was overpriced and the staff were the worst I have encountered anywhere; which ultimately is what would put me off spending time rooting around there for anything next time. I actually enjoyed rooting around the Old Cinema Bookshop more, even though I found nothing to buy there. Ultimately I found nothing in Hay that I haven't found elsewhere (and at better prices).
  13. Wishing you lots of luck, hopefully all will be well afterwards.
  14. Thankfully no hurricanes here - but we have had some sun and warmer weather here (for October) this week, so I have had a few hours out in the garden reading. Not quite t-shirt and shorts weather though!
  15. Wow, seems strange over here to think there are 1st world countries at the mercy of the elements but of course Mother Nature goes where she wants. We never really get that kind of weather here. Best of luck!
  16. Also, be aware of eyestrain from reading on a tablet, so take breaks. E-readers (with e-ink) were conceived to be read and cause no eyestrain. Tablets are not the same in that regard, unfortunately.
  17. I find lots of books around the home make it feel more cosy, so while I intend to read all my books eventually, I have far more here than I've read yet.
  18. Goood...gooood....move awaay from the dark siiide....
  19. I spent a good 3 hours reading in the garden yesterday - quite warm when the sun was there but rather bracing when the clouds came over (which they did, quite a lot). Other than that, its likely to be much the same as last month for me - GP told me I'd be signed off another month from tomorrow and still waiting for the consultant letter to arrive before I can discuss next steps with the GP. So more reading today. Will rest this morning and hopefully walk to the end of the road and back later. Enjoy your days, all
  20. When I had my Audible sub, I did similar, downloaded radio series as well and had a list of books I wanted in that format, so the free offer and the £7.99 a month was more than worth it for me at the time - but eventually (I think after a year, or maybe a bit less) I reached the end of what I wanted from them. But its certainly a great service when there's stuff you want.
  21. I...can't....comprehend...your...words.... I sometimes think I love books more than reading itself. (but fair enough really, we're all different)
  22. I have been watching a box set I bought cheaply when I first had to stay home - Return of the Saint with Ian Ogilvy. I thought I'd last 1 episode before realising you really shouldn't expect to still like stuff you liked nearly 40 years ago but actually, I'm enjoying it for what it is. Doesn't take itself too seriously, the locations all around Europe (no back projections!) are fantastic too. Although the 1970s attitudes to women (Simon Templar seems to automatically assume every woman wants to jump into bed with him - and generally by the end of the episode they either have or "go off on holiday" with him) is hysterical on the 1 hand and rather shaming on the other. But taken for what it is, I'm enjoying it. I'm really looking forward to Westworld starting next week - the trailers look fantastic.
  23. Yes you can pick it up in any pharmaceuticals dept I think; even in larger supermarkets. Its about 6 or 7 quid for a bottle, which lasts quite a while. Its a bit like squirting liquid vicks up your nose...but not as unpleasant as that sounds Yes, I live just to the north, between MK and Northampton. Its quite rural. Bletchley has grown a lot and continues to. I hope you moved somewhere nicer than Bletchley anyway, its not got the best of reputations.
  24. Glad you both got out for a walk - I'm sure your boyfriend appreciates every walk out at the moment, I know I do. The First Defence is a nasal spray - if you use it early enough at the signs of a cold, it is meant to help ward it off, so you don't get a full blown cold. Seems to work IF you catch the symptoms early enough.
  25. FD seems to have done the trick, ta. A friend of mine was complaining about that disruption on Facebook last night actually - must have been chaos there. Really not missing commuting to London at the moment. I guess you could at least think of the East End tour as a free unexpected benefit (!). Maybe not!
