Yes Trapped is good, not up to The Bridge but very watchable and, as Little Pixie says, lots of twists and surprises.

I'd heard that last night's ep was the worst one of the series (actually I give that accolade to the comedy ep a few weeks ago, which I thought was atrocious) so I was a bit dubious about watching but overall I thought it was quite good, if a bit preachy towards the end, and the supernatural angle was a very unconvincing one. However it did have it's moments, yes the line-dancing scene was great (my line-dancing classes were never like that!) and I loved the bit when Scully got to finally say Mulder's very first line (as she said, she waited 23 years to say it, scary that it was that long ago). Not a bad episode at all I thought. As Shirley says, each episode has been quite different, but they've kept the banter and their relationship is strong as ever.

Pretty much the same here, sunny but cold, tried to snow yesterday but was mainly rain and/or sleet, and very cold.

We were talking about Hail Caesar at work today, someone said there are lots of "in" jokes referring to the movie industry, and if you're not into the industry big time, or familiar with the period that it's set in, then a lot of it might go over people's heads, and that it's trying to be too clever. I must admit the only Coen film I've liked has been Fargo, I've tried to watch some of their others and have barely lasted longer than about 30 mins, thankfully on either DVD or TV so I didn't waste money on a ticket.

hi and welcome to the forum.

Hi Gord and welcome, I'm in the south east and read some fantasy but generally the high profile stuff - Game of Thrones, Ben Aaronovitch, Jasper Fforde and LotR (although it's a while since I read them). Have fun finding your way around the forum, there is a fantasy section.

I thought of Time Traveller's Wife too. Also: Just one damned thing after another by Jodi Taylor (or any book in this series, but I've only read that one so far) The Rose Garden by Susanna Kearsley The House on the Strand by Daphne du Maurier Cross Stitch/Outlander (as mentioned above) by Diana Gabaldon

had a bit of sleet first thing but mainly rain.

Mary Stewart's books are always highly recommended too, first one is The Crystal Cave and I think they are more from Merlin's point of view, but they're often called some of the best books on the Arthurian legends. They were out of print until a few years ago but should be pretty easy to find now.

TBR Books You Have Been Putting Off Reading
Madeleine replied to Kylie's topic in General Book Discussions
Frankie, I put off reading for Water for Elephants for a while too, but when I did read it (think it was a book group read) I loved it! I agree that Rebecca is a bit difficult to get into, the first part is pretty slow, but once they get to Cornwall it gets much better. -
Me neither, I thought the original film was bad enough. Getting a bit fed up with all the remakes, reboots or whatever you want to call them.

We had pretty much the same as Chrissie but a bit in reverse - rain at first, then the hail and thunder, and then sunshine, but cold and windy. Sunny today but clouding over now. Not quite as cold as yesterday, so far anyway.

I don't think paracetamol helps for stomach upsets, but from the sound of it you're hopefully on the mend, so fingers crossed you're OK soon.

Sounds a nice way to pay tribute to him, I expect many people did similar things.

Cold yesterday but mild and wet today, I prefer cold and dry.

Traditional dishes in your country

That looks delicious Poet, what is the meat (or is it best not to ask?!). Sadly Kimble is correct in his definition of a fun night in the UK for some people - ie get drunk , eat junk food and then dump it all somewhere in the street, it's not pleasant walking along a street on a Saturday or Sunday morning (or any other morning in some areas!). I pity the street cleaners. -
At last - a proper X Files episode! It was a bit creepy, quite gruesome, completely bonkers and had some good lines, my favourite being Scully saying "back in the day, Mulder, I did stairs.....and three inch heels!. Loved it, always wondered how she managed to run in those shoes. It was slightly let down by the ending though, I thought, but apart from that the best one yet.

Finally got round to watching Philomena last night, it was good, very touching.

I loved The Night Circus and Lake of Dead Languages, I like Carol Goodman but have to say I gave up on the Incubus trilogy halfway through the second book - there was just too much of the various fights with all the different fairies - I like urban fantasy and can do vampires and werewolves and don't mind a bit of the fae, but just found it all got a bit repetitive in the second book. I also really enjoyed The Dante Club.

I'm not that keen on second hand bookshops either, well there aren't that many in my area anyway, although there is a reasonable one in one of the local towns where I have bought quite a few books in the past, as long as they're in reasonable condition. I do occasionally go to a charity bookshop but they don't have much of a selection now, they've really cut down their book department in the last couple of years which is a shame as they had a really good selection at one time. I prefer new books, and would rather buy in a proper bookstore, although I do get them from the supermarket sometimes. I noticed that another branch of Waterstone's in Oxford Street closed down just after Xmas, which now means that London's so-called premier shopping street now only has one dedicated bookshop, as well as a WHSmith. Sad isn't it?

Hi Simon, glad to see your book is progressing well. Good luck with it.

I did think this episode was a bit too larky, although there were some nice moments. I wonder if Scully will keep the little dog (don't think that's a spoiler!).

I love her Jackson Brodie books although I still haven't read Started Early.... as the book came out around the same time as the TV version was shown, and I watched the TV show and thought I'd leave reading the book until I'd forgotten about the screen adaptation! I did however enjoy the first three and think that One Good Turn is the best so far. I did enjoy the TV series even though Jason Isaacs wasn't my image of Jackson, although he was fine and made the part his own. I do agree somewhat with bobblybear about her rambling style, I did find Case Histories a bit disjointed at first, but then the plot threads did all eventually come together but she can get a bit carried away I think. The only one of her non-crime books which I've read is Emotionally Weird and I absolutely hated it, I only finished it as it was a book group read but I thought it was awful - weird is the right word! I do have Human Croquet and Behind the Scenes on my tbr shelf, I think her work certainly seems to divide readers.

Thick frost this morning but no snow. Lots of people scraping their car windscreens when I left.

Same here Shirley and Raven, nice and bright and much better than grey and raining.
