  1. Really cold wind and rain here, may even get some snow too although I think it'll probably be more like sleet.
  2. Like you, I can only remember the music (which came back straightaway, and yes it's very distinctive and creepy) and something about planes, I don't remember anything about horses. Looked up the series on IMDB and it was filmed in Yorkshire, Skipton in fact.
  3. Oh yes Linda is a shamefully under-rated author. I first came across her on another book forum and we all started buying her books, at that time she was self-publishing but I think you can get most of her books through Amazon now, they're the only ones who seem to stock her more recent novels. Why oh why won't a publisher take her on?
  4. Colder today but dry and bright, much better than wet and windy.
  5. Yes a work colleague said exactly the same as you about Beowulf. Haven't watched it myself.
  6. Yep we were told not to put our alarm in the kitchen as it would go off all the time (especially the number of times I burn the toast!)
  7. Very sad news, a true original.
  8. That kingfisher pic is gorgeous, that's what you call dedication on the part of the photographer. I loved the snowy owl too.
  9. Yes it does sound like the battery needs replacing, but why does it always decide to start beeping in the early hours? Ours usually does it around 4.00 am! Just replaced it though when it ran out over Xmas.
  10. I agree with you about the rain poppyshake, it rained most of Saturday, fairly dry yesterday then started again sometime last night and rained most of the night, although it's stopped for now. The garden is like a bog and my car is taking in water, not sure where it's coming in, I assume it must be through the door somehow but will have to take it in, the carpet and mat are absolutely saturated.
  11. I think TWW is her most under-rated song. There's so much emotion in it, anyone who thinks she's just a bit of a hippy should listen to it.
  12. Yeah they never really knew what to do with it, and it didn't seem to be able to make up it's mind whether it wanted to be a comedy or a drama or a bit of both, I didn't dislike it but it was a bit of a mish-mash.
  13. We were given this book to read for A Level umpteen years ago, and then a few weeks into the new term it was cruelly whipped away from us and we were given Jane Austen instead, slight difference....at last I thought something different to read, but no, it wasn't to be. Probably one of the reasons I've never really warmed to Austen! However, I did read Frankenstein a few years later and thoroughly enjoyed it, it's very different to the Hollywood image that is so familiar and is worth reading, and is still very topical today. I also find it hard to believe that Mary was so young when she wrote it.
  14. No, I think the salsa was his best dance.
  15. That's a very good way of summing it up vodkafan!
  16. Yes, a lot of authors on JeanW's list are much missed, I particularly liked P D James. My favourites in no order are: Charlotte Bronte Mary Stewart Daphne du Maurier Barbara Erskine Elizabeth Chadwick Tracy Chevalier Elly Griffiths Winston Graham Ben Aaronovitch George R R Martin Charlaine Harris Susanna Kearsley Susanna Gregory Kate Mosse Peter May
  17. I'm missing it too! Jay's salsa is quite possible my favourite dance ever, I must watch the jive again for those pins though!
  18. I'm afraid I agree with Kell; I did watch it, and whilst it had it's moments it just confirmed that I think it's trying to be too clever, bordering on self-indulgence on the writers' part, yes I did get the story within a story thing, and also that it was all a dream (such a cop-out) and it was nice to see a certain person back again (although that part felt a bit of an add-on and in a way distracted from the main story). I think it was more a case of the writers playing with the viewer, I have no problem with that but I don't think they know quite when to stop, with the overall result that I felt it was a bit of a mess, and it was all a bit of a non-story in the end. It did look good and the actors are great (I still think Martin Freeman is the best thing in it) but I felt it was really a case of style over substance.
  19. Rain and more rain it's getting a bit boring now, the garden is starting to resemble a muddy bog!
  20. Hi bookbug and welcome to the forum, I also love Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones, although I found both book 5 and series 5 a bit disappointing, not surprised at the delay on book 6, but we'll all be shocked/surprised/dismayed together now! My favourite book in GoT is also Storm of Swords.
  21. Hi Laura, glad you're feeling better now and congrats on the baby, nice to meet you.

    Hi All!

Hi Jessi and welcome back (I'm fairly new so didn't "meet" you earlier), your job sounds fascinating. I see you're reading North and South, I read it last month and loved it, hope you're enjoying it too (assuming it's the Gaskell novel).

  24. Hardly surprising really.
  25. I read today that Channel 5 will be screening it in the UK, in February
