Kylie - I hate to say this, but I dumped Mr Whicher after about 120 pages, as it was so tedious....I've got too many books on the tbr piles to mention, but I do tend to put off reading the larger books simply because they take me so long to read, so my main book in the "big" category is probably Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett, although I loved the TV series. Plus loads of Dickens, and a couple of George Eliots.

We had rain on Saturday, yesterday was mild and very windy, last night and this morning it rained and at the moment it's sunny, but meant to get cold again.

Yes be careful with that ankle, it's probably weak from the accident so don't try to do too much (and you have a good excuse for not cleaning!). Hope it's better soon, it's such an inconvenience isn't it?

Yes I found her mother a bit of a drip as well, but I also liked Mrs Thornton, she and her son were close but he wasn't a mummy's boy, and he was a self-made man as well, starting off working in a shop. They had a great relationship. I also thought the ending was a bit rushed, but it's become one of my favourite classics. Glad you enjoyed it too.

I recorded the film the other night, but don't have Netflix. Love the books though.

One of my all-time favourite books, very sad news. I've also just read that Umberto Eco has passed away as well.

I don't have an e-reader and don't particularly want one, although I think they're brilliant for holidays and long train/plane journeys (speaking as someone who's had to pay excess baggage for taking loads of books on holiday ), however I sit and look at a screen all day so don't really want to look at one when I'm reading for pleasure as well, although if George R R Martin ever finishes the 6th Game of Thrones novel then I might give in and get one just to read that, as it will probably be a huge book I've heard they're also really good for people who can't hold a book easily, a friend of mine has very bad arthritis and finds it hard to hold a book and turn the pages, so for him it's brilliant. I think there is a place for them, but I prefer a real book, and find it easier to look back through a real book too, especially if I want to refer to a family tree.

Nice and sunny again, but cold.

I love that, colder than a frog's behind It's got cold here again, had a sprinkling of snow overnight but nothing much, but really bitter though.

Restaurants can be so noisy can't they, we went out on Saturday to a local carvery and it was very noisy, loads of kids running around too, which is always dangerous when people are walking around with trays of hot food and soup.

That's interesting, Raven, sounds like it didn't do so well then.

I read the first few books as well, about 4 or 5, then started to get bored with them and found them a bit "twee", and repetitive as someone else mentions here. They're good-hearted though.

I liked the little re-cap they did at the beginning, when they showed some of the old monsters, Eugene Tooms still makes me cringe

Hi Sammie and welcome, there's a section on crime and thrillers on here, not sure if you've found it yet? Do you have a favourite author? I'm reading a Jo Nesbo at the moment and enjoying it, have you read any of his books? Have fun finding your way round on here, lots to look at!

Well the hype is starting for Series 6, I can't believe how much Bran has grown, he's almost unrecognisable! Must admit I was a bit disappointed in Series 5, but then I found the book a slog as well. Very dubious about the new series, it will be odd not having a book to prepare me! I have misgivings that a couple of my favourite characters will go, but who knows? The worst thing will be trying to avoid conversations in the office before I've seen it myself, wish it didn't go out on Mondays here as I don't usually get to watch it until the weekend. I have bailed on a few TV series - see "Heroes" thread - but I've stuck with this one as I like a lot of the characters and actors, even if it is very OTT at times. Plus there is nothing like it on TV.

Looks like this is starting again soon - I enjoyed the first show and then gave up during the second series, I'm not going to watch the new version, but at least the original series gave us the lovely Santiago Cabrera! I think it ran it's course the first time.
