  1. I watched L'eclisse, directed by Michelangelo Antonioni. I know people like this film's characters and to me they're often exhausting and overwhelming, so I had to battle through what it seemed a distorted window to my memories. I wonder what the director had in mind, but I think the main character felt tired as well.
  2. I agree with you about the writing, plenty of people online have the same idea. About the prevalence of philosophy/psychology, in the book I read (Crime and Punishment) they're an important characteristic of at least Raskolnikov and the police detective. I don't think the narrative would develop the same way if the former weren't so introspective. Perhaps this is just a matter of taste, everyone has their own and shouldn't feel bad about it.
  3. I watched the film and I think it's good. It's very empty, full of long shots with little things on screen. It's different from most of the other films I've watched, even in the arthouse spectrum. The production has plenty of small particularities as well. I understand not watching films/series in order not to ruin one's own perception of books, I do it myself unless I'm assured that both works are dissimilar.
  4. I finished My Struggle: A Death in the Family, by K.O. Knausgaard. I found it dull and unremarkable.
  5. I watched La Notte, directed by Michelangelo Antonioni. It's outstanding; from him I had only seen Blow Up and didn't think much of it, but the main characters in this film are timeless.
  6. Radiohead's unreleased 007: Spectre theme song.
  7. I watched Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri. I think it's a quintessential gothic film that deserves more recognition. Edit: I no longer think it's a quintessential gothic film, because certain elements in it aren't gothic. But I think it's good nonetheless.
  8. Tony Zhou (Every Frame a Painting channel on Youtube) wrote an article on his point of view of the film's plot.
  9. I don't know most of the duos in the list, but listened to a bit of The Everly Brothers on Spotify and liked it. I recognised the song All I Have To Do Is Dream, it's iconic. Daft Punk, The Black Keys and The White Stripes were very popular in my teens, the latter were the most played on guitars.
  10. The weather outside is frightful, but inside it's so delightful.
  11. I watched Ugetsu, by Kenji Mizoguchi. I think the cinematography is very smooth and the presentation is noteworthy. The story is good, but it isn't the film's strong suit. I want to watch it as well.

    Hello

    Welcome to the forum, Mh530.
  13. The new film by Studio Ghibli has been announced, the title is The Red Turtle. It will be Michaël Dudok de Wit's debut in feature films, but he has won awards with some of his works and I'm curious to watch what will come out of this.
  14. I think I read six books this year, even less than the previous year. It might go up to seven. I also read some manga.
  15. I watched Spielberg's version in the cinema and really enjoyed the film in my teens, even today I think it's a good film. I'll keep watch of this series.
  16. Welcome to the forum, justmeandatea. I personally prefer to read books regardless of genre.
  17. I only read two graphic novels written by Alan Moore, Dave Gibbons and Brian Bolland each illustrated one of the books. They were Watchmen and Batman: The Killing Joke, both about superheroes. I liked the first, it had nice characters and certain events in the plot were well thought. The second one has a nicely delivered final joke.
  18. I watched The Assassin, by Hou Hsiao-Hsien, it's beautiful and enigmatic like almost no other film. I'll need a second viewing to properly appreciate the story, I kept backtracking to identify characters and wasn't focused.
  19. Congratulations on your engagement, Shelfy.
  20. I watched When Marnie Was There, by Hiromasa Yonebayashi. I liked it, it's still growing on me.
  21. I saw A Muppets Christmas Carol, directed by Brian Henson. It was good, I enjoyed it, I might watch it again in the future.
  22. I got a New Nintendo 3DS XL via in-store trade, together with Shovel Knight and Xenoblade Chronicles 3D. I'm playing a lot of the first at the moment, and I'll start the other after finishing this one.
  23. The Last Kingdom ep. 8 - Shades of Stark and Hercules
  24. The Istanbul to London ticket to a train with too diverse people, and a too cunning frenchman belgian.
